HOWEVER, this may be only a local deal. Read below!

Update2: looks like nobody is able to verify elfnumber1's post. Nor has elfnumber1 provided any proof or the location of the BB which gave him the $1299 price, despite the fact that both RossMan and I have PM'ed him.

Update3: elfnumber1's story is true. It turns out to be a BB mistake. but the bad news is that BB has corrected the mistake. thanks to Rossman, and my apology to elfnumber1 since I started to doubt his story. Now back to the deals that are still legit (all except the Sony GRX550)!

I haven't seen this posted so here it is:

Sony Viao GRX-550 (p4 1.6 / 512ddr / 30gb / 15tft / dvd-cdrw combo drive)

The laptop normally goes for $2199.70 but will ring up $1299.xx. This is verified by me as I work there and have gotten in on the deal. I have also helped 10 customers with getting this as it is legit and it works. Since all BB's I know of in the area do not have stock of these, you will need to ask a computer sales person to setup a "computer fullfillment" which is basically purchasing the computer and when it arrives in store, they will contact you. There is also a $200 MIR on this laptop making it $1099.xx after MIR.

The reason this lappy is lowered was from a market reaction. G'luck!

elfnumber1 - In your honest opinion is it worth it to get the PRP or PSP for this laptop? If so, should we get the 1 yr, 2 yr, or 3 yr, PSP or PRP, and should we get carry in or on site?

Thanks!

Is there any way of confirming the price of the Sony Viao GRX-550 at the register before making the computer fullfillment? This is a really hot deal if it works!

my honest opinion about LAPTOP PSP it is worth it, simply put: you replace one part such as interal dvd-cdrw combo, that would be cost of PSP right there at $219.xx. It might not be so much useful on computer as those parts are cheaper and easier to replace with OEM parts. But definately, if you get the PSP, abuse it - meaning, if anything is wrong with the unit, send it to service. 4 times and you get a new one (under the descretion of the service center and managers of course).

doing the computer fullfillment does not make you pay, it will show $2381.xx on cf form, but at register 1299.xx

Just called my local Best Buy and all of Portland, Oregon is OUT OF STOCK for this laptop but Spokane, WA has 3 in stock (according to their computer inventory).

Best Buy SKU 4556545

Unfortunately the guy said the price is $2,099 not $1,299 I asked him to read me the price on his register/computer for this laptop and he said $2,099 ... maybe he was using the Best Buy intranet computer instead of an actual cash register? Two days ago when I went to BB asking if they had GTA3 in stock the guy went to their BB intranet website (which can be used by customers also).

Any tips on what to do now?

Too bad it weighs too much.
Rossman, in regards to your question concerning the protection plans. I wasn't too keen on those at first but when I got my compaq last week from Compusa, I went ahead and got the plans since it offers two screen replacements and covers the laptop for 2 yrs.
For 1,300.00 I got this (including the service plan)
Compaq Laptop
1722 US
20gb hd
14.1" screen
56k and 10/100
PIII 1.13 ghz processor
but the key thing to this was that it was around 1.5 inches thin and weighed only 5.1 lbs.

muffstah - Thanks for the info. Although most of the Sony laptop's specs are awesome I did notice the floppy is external USB (which may or may not be a problem for some) and it weighs 8.6 lbs with all drives in

Also when I spoke with the sales guy he said they only offer a 3 year carry in PSP (product service plan), no PRP or onsite is available. He did say that this includes battery replacement once a year (laptop batteries cost a lot). So if I buy this I think I will get the 3 year PSP.

First I need to determine if the price is $1299 and if it's worth going up to farkin Spokane for this.

So you take the form to the register and it should ring up as $1299? Is that before or after the laptop arrives?

ATI Radeon 7500
This guy claims it comes with MS Office 2002 (huge eBay potential)
I like the full size keyboard
Trackpad (I hate eraser head cursors)

Rossman,
I think the issue of the floppy would hardly be a big one for most since most of us hardly use floppy's and with the dvd/cdrw combo, there may not really be a need for the floppy being built in. I think usb should be okay. Some bios's on let you boot from usb now as well.

Here's what I found out, the salesperson I spoke to on the phone said that the item is being clearanced out, but it is up to the discretion of the store if they lower the price or not. He said that the price would not be lowered on this item at my local store, so... YMMV (I've always wanted to say that!). No idea if I would have better luck at the register, but if this guy is right I am out of luck... unless another BestBuy is willing to deal!

*gets back on the phone*

Okay, gonna clear up a few things. I do not know if this is local or nationwide. When doing a computer fullfillment you purchase in store that day, then when the store gets a shipment of laptops, you get your's on hold and you get a phone call from the local Best Buy. Then you go up and just pick it up since you have already paid.

Simply put, it's not gonna be on the website or the intranet. You have to log into the register and put the computer fullfillment order number and it will show $1299.xx.

elf

going to bb now to get friend on deal. good luck.

Well I contacted a store that does not have it in stock, but does have it in the warehouse, and therefore can do computer fulfillment, so I think I'm going to take a little trip to see what happens when they ring it up! Hopefully I can cancel it if the price is not right.... Also, the salesperson I just spoke to said that there is an additional $100 MIR offered by Sony... if this works it may just be the best laptop deal I've ever seen!
