Just came from local Best Buy. I have a scan of whatever proof you guys are waiting for. This is the Sony GRX550 Notebook for $1299.70 before $200 MIR. If anyone wants the scan or can post it for all to see, please PM me with your email addy and I will send. Along with the receipt I have the $200 MIR and the shelf tag. If anyone still is in disbelief, please wait for ROSSman's confirmation once he calls the store I gave him the number to.

Good news: elf was right this deal is LEGIT and he was NOT leading us on.

Bad news: I think BB screwed up and this was isolated to a few select stores, they've since then realized their error and corrected it.

First of all Broohaha and whoever else doubted elfnumber1 owes him an apology. Special thanks to Entity for keeping a cool head and not jumping to conclusions until this deal could be confirmed.

That being said, this deal is dead. I just got off the phone with the Best Buy store in question, they confirm selling several of these laptops today for $1,299 however as of 5:00 PM local time today they have stopped it according to their corporate office. I tried to pry the reason(s) from the BB sales rep who answered the phone and what he gave me wasn't totally crystal clear. Apparently the $1,299 price was a price match against another store/internet website, I was curious and asked him which one (maybe we could order from them or PM CC or Sears against them I was thinking ...) he said "we don't know". So either they don't know what happened or they really are that clueless. I asked him if I had a local BB call them would they price match to $1,299 he said absolutely not, do not bother wasting your time.

I also went to BB's store locator to verify the phone number I was calling is a real BB and not some guy who answers the phone BB (and has a clever PBX system which can transfer calls and has hold music), yep it was a legit BB I was calling. If you want to know which BB please ask elfnumber1 because as I said before I intend to keep his identity and this BB location confidential.

So once again the deal was valid but was an unintentional fluke which has since then been fixed. DEAL DEAD!

I won't even go into the possibilities of using scanned receipts to PM against another store

I know that I didn't outright accuse elfnumber1 of lying but I was starting to doubt him and for that I do apologize.

Thanks for all your help, I just wish this deal had panned out after reading that ePinions and UseNet review I'm almost tempted to say fsck it and pay retail $2199 - $200 MIR but that's not that much of a Hot Deal.

Oh well. It's probably for the best for me anyways. I really want the 1600x1200 screen of the Dells, rather than 1024x768 this had.

I know that this deal is considered dead and I'm sorry that it seems to be local only. I was only going by my store and what the computer sales ppl were telling me. Again it was verified by the area I was in so it wasn't just my specific store. Unfortunately right when I had entered the store the managers and computer sales reps were telling me they would not let anymore laptops go out for that price. I had then learned the 4 Sony's went out right before I had gotten in, so they were the lucky bastards. Anyhow, sorry I got to AT too late to have any effect. Wish you guys luck in the future and keep those deals coming!

I'd also like to apologize to elfnumber1. He is a dear friend to us all and has given us a flaming hot deal!!! Unfortunately this deal was a dead deal as soon as it hit this thread. Since I know elfnumber1 personally I got the inside tip beforehand. Luckily i was able to purchase three without any problems. The manager even told me I was saving three grand by buying the three. After I left to go to the cashiers, I heard he ripped up the tag and wasn't selling it to anyone. There were already too many people buying them from that particular store. My friends attempted to buy some more about 2 hours later before closing but got the cold shoulder. Anyways I just wanted to thank elfnumber for his BB *insight birdie*.....may he share more of his knowledge later on.....

I just bought a super thin less tha 1 inch thick (when not on dock) HP omnibook 500 and besides being an hp computer it is awsome! I only paid 750.00 from ebay. it has p3 700 processor, 20 gighd, 256 ram, dvd drive, lan, and yet weighs in at as little as 3.5 lbs! also look at the omnibook 510 as it is the same machine with a 1.0 or 1.13 gig p3!
