bestbuy online order for store pickup - never got item, but charged! HELP!

11/11: placed an online order at bestbuy for store pickup for two items: say A & B.

11/18: got ready for pickup email for item A and picked up item A.

11/19: got ready for pickup email for item B. when i went there, they couldn't locate the item B and basically had no clue what is going on. got frustrated after a 30 min wait, and returned item A (happened to have it in the car), told them to cancel the entire order and left.

my online order status at this point said:
Item A - ready for pick up
Item B - returned, credit issued

In my this months' credit card bill, I see a charge for Item A.

12/20: called bestbuy (yesterday) asking what is going on - they tell me that after 8 days the order should have been automatically cancelled, (as i never picked up the item), but for some reason the CSR can't cancel it. CSR said she will leave a note in the order for some higher CSR to cancel (this was after 1 hour). i said ok and hang up.

after the call, my online order status says:
Item A - picked up in store on 12/20. (and charged for that item)

12/21: called bestbuy, they had no clue, i was told i need to take it up with the store as somebody picked up the item. i told them i never entered the said store on 12/20 :-(.

Went to the store today - they also had no clue who picked up the item - they said somebody closed the order, but they don't now who. they can't even tell whether the item was picked up or not. they told i need to take it up with bestbuy.com or my CC company.

ATOT, please advise what do i need to do now?

how do i inform CC company (never did this before)? thanks.

- got charged for a item that i never picked up - after more than a month
- what to do now? how to fight?

EDIT:
wow, just got email saying my item was returned today (22nd) and credited for Item B. hopefully that settles this nightmare (note to self: verify the CC credit).

CC company. Tell them you never received the item and requested a cancellation.

I assume you have some kind of paperwork or receipt from when you returned item A? Be sure to hold on to that. It might be needed if BB isn't willing to help and you have to issue a chargeback through the CC.

thanks for the replies. so, if i had bought with a gift card - then I am SOL. can't even imagine the nightmare of that!

will do the complaint with CC. hopefully it is painless.

Yes probably screwed. It's nice using CC for this kind of thing. I never purchase on paypal unless it's pulling from cc for the entire purchase. Paypal's fraud department is inept so if a problem you go to the cc.

Yeah, I would call the CC company and speak with the fraud department - not disputes, but fraud - sometimes called the security department. Be simple and straightforward. "I bought an item for store pickup and was charged for the item. Best Buy claims I picked it up. I have never been to that store. I do not have the item. This is fraud."

Your CC company will be all over this and Best Buy will be begging you to take the item, I bet they offer to deliver it for free.

What the fuck. Between Hal's i need to stop drinking thread, and this how do i contact the cc company thread, I sometimes wonder how people survived without the internet.

Next someone will post asking for advice on how to go about walking to the bathroom and what steps to take to wipe their ass.

I happened to not pick up order just this week (I was too lazy, some $10 game best buy had on sale that I didn't really care if I got or not), and got this cancellation email yesterday:

Dear Jason:

Your store pickup order has been canceled because it was not picked up at the NO. FAYETTE PA Best Buy store #584 within 8 days of confirmation. The method of payment used for this order has been credited. To view the amount of the credit and updated order details, please check your order status.

Did you get an email like that? Anyways, that gives phone numbers, and if you paid with a GC gives a phone number to call to get a new one. Just looked at my credit card account and I don't have a pending refund, but it's only been a day, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on it in case this is a system-wide problem!

I got caught into a similar mess one time with Best Buy. Unfortunately, my CC company had sided with Best Buy and there was nothing I could do.

I bought an HDTV + Home Theater package. I picked up the TV and packed it into my Civic. I didn't have enough room to fit in the Home Theater. The employee who helped me load the TV into my car said that I could come back later to pick it up.

I came back three days later and they said that the Home Theater system had already been picked up. I called the Store Manager, corporate, my CC company and they all refused to believe my side of the story that I had not picked up the item yet.

I see your point - but I didn't want to start on the wrong foot with the CC company - and they coming later and saying - oh you didn't mention that earlier and you can't dispute the same charge twice - thus catching me on a technicality.

I was able to issue a chargeback on my Chase amazon visa on their website.

This, a lot of CC's allow you to do disputes and chargebacks right on their website. No more crazy paperwork to fill out.

there is an 800 number on your CC, it sucks you have to talk to an actual human being but they can be helpful sometimes.

Ouch...uh....maybe.

I'd keep going back to BB, ask to actually sit down with the manager, or district manager if you have to and get it figured out. Bring any and all paperwork you might have relating to purchase, pick-up and return of your items.

...how much $$$ are we talking anyway? $10 probably isn't worth the hassle and I doubt you purchased something all that substantial with just a gift card.

Tell BB, "Either prove to me that I picked up this item, reverse the charges on my credit card, or prepare yourselves to have the DA investigate your butts for fraud".

ANY online order picked up at the store has to be signed for, by the person who ordered the item. If they don't have a signed receipt, they eat the cost of the item, and refund you.

The majority of ATOTers have their mommies wipe their ass for them. (IF they are potty trained, otherwise mommy just changes their diaper)
