Beta 189 WDM Drivers for Philips PSC703, PCS705, PSC706 Sound Cards

Saw These beta drivers listed this evening.

In terms of what's new the V1.89 driver has some minor fixes that most people won't notice (I don't have details right now). The major change in this driver is that it now uses InstallShield instead of WinZip for the file copy process. It also is the driver that Philips has chosen to WHQL certify. Note that the beta is not certified - when that happens the certified drivers will get posted and hosted on Philips' site rather than our server.

EDIT: If anyone tries these, please post any difference they made if any.

TTT for the Philips Edge Series users.. I have not tried these yet for my Acoustic Edge, but will post back if I see (Hear ) a difference.

I think these are the drivers that they were talking about that put the Acoustic Edge above every other soundcard in the roundup vs Audigy, SBLIve, Santa Cruz, Herc Gamesurround 2, and I think one other.. anywho, the reason these drivers did that, was simply becuase they implimented what appears to be a more advanced version of QMSS, which seems to me to be almost the same as Dolby Pro Logic (or perhaps Dolby Pro Logic 2). this means you can get awesome 3D audio in games without using a special API, just waveout or directsound stereo output. it seems to me that they could impliment this on music if they wanted (I don't know if you can though).

Do you happen to have a link to the roundup? I always did prefer the AE over the TBSC and Soundblaster. I guess I will give these drivers a whirl. (I was waiting in the wings to see what other's results were. )

The Philips AE, that is running on my main box has given me a bit of a headache. The lack of driver updates is a but upsetting and the previous betas had numerous issues that made them not useable. The microphone input doesn't work too well (for me, at least) and last, but not least, the cable set for my speakers has died (Philips is sending a replacement for that cable, but a bit late, IHMO).

The card works, but I won't get one of them again. I'll get a TB card next time for sure.

it should be noted that if I am correct about how the Acoustic edge works, than you might be able to accomplish the same thing with a good quality stereo out + Dolby Pro Logic reciever.

Getting ready to do a fresh install of XP for my new Epox board. I will load these 1.89's up for my AE and report on how they are. I'm using the 1.87's now.
