Just be aware this game has gone through a couple of out of print/reprint cycles. But we play it once a month or so.

Dammit OP. I spent the rest of the night watching these videos. :/

Game looks fun. Was a few others that looked fun too.

One other item of note is play times can vary quite a bit depending how soon the haunt starts. I've seen it start as early as midway through turn 2 thanks to random room selection and a really unlucky roll.

Watching the videos it looks like a fun game, but man did they make the Demon lord too powerful. They couldn't even hit it once for a single point of damage, nor could they outrun it. Not only that there were three of the demons. I wonder if all of the haunts are that stacked or they were just unlucky.

Can't watch the video right now - any comparisons? What's your average game length? How's the replayability/randomization from game to game?

Thanks OP...probably too late now for our roadtrip to NC this Friday but maybe I'll pick it up after.

The game time is really variable. On average I would say about an hour to an hour and a half, but I've seen 15 minute games and a few 3 hours games.

Replayability is pretty good, the main limiting factor is the scenario book, but there is a couple of hundred scenarios in the book, and even then the scenarios play out differently with a different set of characters.

If you have ever played or watched Forbidden Island or Forbidden Desert, Betrayal has a similar tile laying mechanic but many more tiles to lay and a few rules on how they can be laid. Each tile is unique and many have special mechanics and story attached to them. Not all the tiles will be laid in any given game.

One thing about this game is it takes a good deal of space to play. Think Carcassonne levels of table realestate.

Definitely on my list of games to get. Unfortunately (or fortunately, I guess) it's a long list ... still at 24 games after the Amazon sale a couple Saturdays ago. I may or may not have spent $225ish that morning.

Picked up 7 Wonders, Five Tribes, Coup, Takaido, King of Tokyo, Roll for the Galaxy, and Castles of Burgundy. Then used the "savings" from those games to buy Jamaica even though it wasn't on sale, just because my wife keeps asking if it's gone on sale yet. Anyway, going through a move right now, so probably won't get any table time until after.

It does vary a lot by what scenario you get and the status of everyone else at the time it happens such as their stats and equipment or rooms revealed.

I have done about 8-10 different ones and usually it is a toss up.

What are we talking about, exactly? Euro vs Ameritrash?

Game theme, mechanics and player interaction.

Euro games in general have "basic" themes, a heavy focus on economy and internal game engines that drive the scoring, and very little direct player conflicts.

Ameritrash is usually dripping with theme. There's entire gaming lines based upon the H.P. Lovecraft universe that essentially created the Ameritrash label. Arkham Horror is probably the most popular. Ameritrash games are heavy on luck (dice rolls, cards, ect) and usually sees players getting directly dicked by the game or other players to determine win/loss scenarios. Ameritrash is more about sitting down and bullshitting each other and less about true skill or planning.

Euro games usually have a "best decision available" mechanic where good players will more times than not win games through good choices. Many of them are like playing your own games of solitaire although other players may have cards you need or prevent you playing a card you want to play. There's very little "take that!" direct attack or asshole plays in traditional Euro games.

But why the "trash" at the end of Ameritrash? Because you're trashing the other players or something?

Because some people believe only one type of game is enjoyable and anyone who plays other types of games are an inferior human being.

Played two games this weekend. The traitor won once and the survivors got the other. This game is awesome. It's different every game.

Had new players tonight so I had them watch Wil Wheaton video and that helps a lot getting new players the premis of the game play.

I played this a couple of years ago. It is not bad, but gets kind of repetitive. AN early betrayal favors the evil side. A late one favors the group.

Anything like this thats Star Wars related?

Imperial Assault is a great game, it is kind of a redo of Descent, which is a dungeon crawler with minis and dice.
