Has anyone seen it stated for certain how many episodes will be in this first season? I've seen it claimed to be 10 or 13 in different places.

The first season is 10 episodes, but AMC has already bought a second season which will consist of 13 episodes.

Remember... BCS is a prequel. It takes place 6 years before Walter White met Saul. And Mike was a policeman prior to working for Gus. So, maybe he's working this booth as some sort of undercover deal.

Undercover as parking attendant at a courthouse? He's certainly not there as a policeman, that was in Philadelphia, not New Mexico. After leaving the Philadelphia police department Mike did some legal and some not-so-legal jobs before hooking up with Gus and Saul. He could already be working for Gus at this point and is there gathering evidence on a judge looking into the meth trade or maybe scoping out a hit on a somebody. Hell, it's also possible that parking attendant is the cover he uses to establish himself as an upstanding, tax-paying citizen in between his illegal activities. Maybe he's just there because that's where he is when he's not doing something more illicit.

Loving it so far... I was expecting some "okay" comedy based on Saul, and I got another drama of Breaking Bad quality
Vince is such a great writer, he manages to capture you from start to finish with every episode

And I love that Michael Mando has a role here, huge fan of Vaas (as is anyone who played Far Cry 3), so its really exciting to see him again

Better Call Saul takes place 6 years before Breaking Bad, which began in 2008. That is why the check is dated 2002.

Disagree. S02 is greatness, appreciate each episode because the "feel" of the show changes drastically after it. Most of S03 is lame, but it ends great (after The Fly episode), and S04 is powerful but lots of slow moments, the Gus/Walt cat-and-mouse game got old for me, and the whole zombie-Jesse thing for most of the first half was annoying, plus cranky Hank sucks. S05 rocked and rolled though. The whole show rocks but people need to understand how great Season 2 was, BB is never the same after it.

uh, that chart seems to agree with what BrokenVisage is saying. S3 had more eps at 8 or below, so relative to the other seasons, it was the worst.

I love all of BB, but if I were to rate the seasons as a whole, I would go 4>5>3>2>1 (though I am not 100% certain about putting 3 over 2). It's really a tricky exercise because each season has some dizzying highs that make it hard to put the weaker parts of the season in context.

We're not talking about individual episodes, we're talking about a general trend of increase in quality.

That is certainly arguably the best BB episode overall, and one of the best episodes of TV, ever. I just like the way Season 4 starts with a slow burn and progresses into such intensity in the last 3 episodes.

Caught all 3 episodes tonight. Thoughts:

1. The first episode was crazy slow. Not interesting at all. Stick with it tho, it gets better in the second & moreso in the third episodes.

2. They don't write enough witty lines for Saul, they need to pump that stuff out every minute or two to keep the pacing & interest & entertainment up. Stuff like him pushing Mike's gate button & calling him grandpa, or like saying I got you from life to 6 months, I'm a great lawyer, was hilarious, but they need more of that, way more of that!

3. My two biggest gripes are the music & the pacing. Music is too strong. Based on the commercial, they really like the country singer guy. The music is too much the focus of a lot of scenes, too loud & too strong, takes me away from the story line. Then they switch to silence a lot. They're trying to be a little bit of Breaking Bad in terms of situational seriousness at times, but I want to watch it because Saul is an interesting character & I think they need to focus on his fast-talking, ridiculous character primarily. The pacing is also slow, although it's starting to ramp up.

4. Minor gripe on the color grading: too dark, takes away from it. Like in the beginning in B&W, I was straining to see. Also in Tuco's grandma's house, like in her room when she was watching TV.

5. I love Mike. Tuco is great. Glad to see them get some of the good characters in the show. I forgot how bananas Tuco is!

6. It feels like it's starting to really heating up, story-wise. By the end of tonight's 3-hour run, I decided I was into it. They're starting to weave a deep story web with Saul. Since they signed on for a second season, I'm hoping it keeps this up. I'm hoping they didn't lose too many viewers from the first fairly lame episode. My wife didn't really want to keep watching after the first one either (she caught it last week), but she's into it now too & is a big BB fan.

In short: don't judge it by the first episode, which was slow & uninteresting. Stick with it. Second episode is better & third episode sucks you in. I'm hoping it keeps that up for the rest of the season, I will definitely continue watching if so :thumbsup:

Wish the episodes were longer. Looks like they take time building up but I think its going to turn out good. I kept waiting for more to happen but before I knew it the episode was done.
