Plenty said it. I took notice because it was so short-sighted and yet these wanna be critics thought they had a point.

Except, the majority of them weren't complaining about Mike being in the show. They, like myself, were complaining about the blatant "oh, here is a character you know" method in which everything was being presented. Sure, one of them was short sighted enough to think Mike would not have a major role, but nearly every (except you) agreed Tuco was just misplaced.

LOL you need to get a life. You really dug through the thread to dredge all that up? And for what? I still don't see anyone claiming Mike's appearances were pointless. It was just a general potential concern that the show may not try to stand on its own feet. Not to mention that these comments are weeks old by now.

Seriously, you're going to give yourself a heart attack over other people's BCS opinions. I'll laugh.

How does a brand new show already have rabid fanboys?

Why are people so upset with Tuco being on the show? Would it really have been so much better to have some random, nameless thug play his role instead?

Yes. I would have been much better if a story that takes place in a city with almost a million people in the metro area had more than the same 10 characters making things happen, especially, in things completely unrelated to the business at hand. Had this been some other thug and a different situation where Nacho was able to get the information about the couple, it would have been much better. Staging some elaborate "here's Tuco; and he's still crazy" did nothing but pander to the show's lineage. Now, it has started to go on it's own direction, so this transgression is easily forgivable, but in the first two episodes, it warranted caution.

Great episode. I think Mike will threaten to steal the spotlight if he continues to be a regular.

The vibe I got from Mike in his confession at the end was that he was dirty because everyone was dirty, not that he was particularly fond of it. If that's true it's a big step from that attitude to the one necessary to help Saul and Gus with all that they do.

I think Mike's son being killed, despite taking the money, is what broke him. He was only dirty for self preservation, but once he tried to get his son to do the same and lost him, he didn't care anymore.

Bingo.

Btw, thematically, this parallels Saul's slide down that same slippery slope. Both Saul and Mike were no angels. Both engaged in "questionable" acts for self-preservation -- Saul's slip and slide & Mike's "go along to get along." But both had their own inner ethical North Star that they tried to hew to.

In the end, though, "events" are leading both to permanently and radically cross the line.

Sound (BB) familiar?

Also, I LOVED when Saul plaintively asked Mike how he knew that he (Saul) would spill the coffee on that Philly detective.

It's the Mark of Cain so prominently displayed on your forehead, son! You bad!

I thought it was well placed and I LOL'd when he first showed his face.

It's a spinoff. Of course it plays into Breaking Bad's lineage. IT IS BREAKING BAD. BCS is BB, just a prequel.

It's no different, in my eyes, than the Spartacus: Gods of the Arena prequel. It was from the same producers, same set, same story, same actors. It was just missing Spartacus. Of course they had different reasoning, but imho the full title of this show is Breaking Bad: Better Call Saul. Because, if you're going to get into the Breaking Bad story and watch all the episodes, would you not also watch Better Call Saul? Of course, because it's part of the story.

anyone just catch the reflection of the crew member on the window when saul sat down against the window after flipping out? had to rewind it after i saw it, and yep, definitely a reflection of a guy who ducks down behind something.

Could be 2 crewmen. One of who ducks behind a prop.
screenshot darkened to show reflection.

I fail to understand anyone's criticism about this show, especially the whole tuco thing. it's been nothing but fantastic so far. mike and saul are both great characters. my only question is someone the believability in those morons who embezzled $1.6M, do people like that really exist? I guess they do!

They do. That's why the old saw "Truth is stranger than fiction" exists. Some things you can't make up.

This show, like Breaking Bad, is just getting better and better. Vince Gilligan seems to shine in the character-development type of series. First you had Walt who went down the rabbit hole somewhat unwillingly and bumbled around until he managed to get his senses about him and thrive...at the expense of everyone around him. I can see the same parallels with Better Call Saul. Our main character is fumbling around and stumbles upon the rabbit hole...he will go in...he will continue to bumble around a bit...he will eventually get his bearings and begin to thrive...at the expense of everyone around him.

I like the differences in this story vs. Breaking Bad though...great new characters, great background stories being fleshed out, great acting and synergy between everyone. I hope it continues.

Alpine Shepherd Boy was supposed to be "Jell-O" (episode where Saul first advertises in the old folks home with the jello cups) but they ran into issues with usage rights.

best part is, the main female chick (forget her name) isn't annoying like the ones in BB!
