This whole scam is like buying stuff of the back of a truck. Can't be too careful.

Snicker...at least it now makes sense to me. Had a friend in college have it happen to him in a gas station parking lot in Morgantown, WV. He came to work and told me the same old story. Warehouse loaded 1 too many sets. Shown an invoice for how much they are worth, shown a flyer that says they are worth like $2000 for a set. He ended up giving the guy around 250 or so for the set. Told him they were probably hot, but he was so happy that "he got away with them", he didn't care.

He seemed to enjoy them a bit. Don't know if the quality was all that great.

Ah well.

I've seen guys in a white beat-up van try to sell computers to people in a Kroger parking lot when i used to work there way back. The funny thing is the computers were in a big brown cardboard box with just "IBM" printed on the side of it. I laughed so hard when i saw them sell one to somebody when i was outside on my break. They used to come by like once or twice a month trying to pull the same scam on people. I am amazed people still fall for this scam, considering i heard about it since i was a teenager. It's like the guys who sell furniture off of the back of a truck, with the same approach. You know damn well that furniture ain't gonna last too long.

You might be able to get your money back!!!

I have to admit, I fell for this a couple of years ago. I spent $200 on the speakers. I talked to the Attorney General in Ohio. One of the reasons they can't shut this down is that they offer a 3 day opt out period. If you can find where they are located, within 3 days, they have to give you your money back. (I don't know if this is true in your state ofr not, but there is probably a similiar law).

I got lucky. The company was DynAudio. I found them through the phone company, drove out that day and got my money back. They did not offer any resistance.

Good Luck!

I heard about this scan about 10 years ago. I can't believe there are people in the country not aware of this by now.

BTW, perhaps this belongs in OFF TOPIC?

LO..everyone here says "common sense", but seriously, if some shady looking guy offered you a 1.2 Tbird, WITH mobo and RAM, all packaged neatly, how tempted would YOU be???....

At least those of you guys who got scammed got something, even if they were crappy speakers. My uncle (talk about common sense), bought a "factory sealed" hi-fi VCR box... filled with ROCKS...

Man...

(hey, is there still time to bid on that Ebay auction for the speakers?)

Don't feel too bad. Experience comes with a price tag of one sort or another. I once bought a brick hermetically sealed in a VCR box for a $100 in an LA parking lot. It was God's way of telling me I had too much money and was way too greedy.

I've never had a winning lottery ticket.
Never been struck by lightning either.

But I too have been approached in a parking lot to buy speakers out of a van

There must be a lot of these shady characters around.:Q

Please, please, PLEASE do not confuse Dynalab (the "White Van Speakers&quot with Dynaudio or Magnum Dynalab. These companies have nothing to do with each other and one of them is complete crap.

Recently, I've been quite surprised to see the white vans driving around with large "Dynalab" decals (magnets?) on the side. It used to be fun to see a white van trolling a parking lot, turn to a friend and say "Hey, I bet they're selling speakers." and be right. Now they stick out like a sore thumb.

Reminds me of the time, many years ago, I saw a dude selling steaks out of the back of his black lincoln continental in NYC during rush hour....didn't bother to go too close, as there was no way I was gonna get involved...someone who bought some showed them to me...my first questions were "where's the FDA sticker or something like that...and how do you know what kind of meat it is?"...stranger's response was "I don't know !..it's not on the package !!"..I shook my head and walked away....fast !! LOL

"If it sounds too good to be true. . . it probably IS. . . . unless you find it on AnAndTech !!"

Ya and then the company wonders why they got 50,000 orders for something that they haven't sold any of in the past 6 months. When they check, they find a wrong price and cancel everyone's order.
