Over the years I've experience - No Matter what device you have Flashed Firmware into - You always have to Reboot or Shut Down so that the MB Bios can interact with it and the OS can recognize it - That is reassign OS IRQ's. as you are basically changing Hardware with that Firmware and likely IRQ re-assignment may require updated drivers.

Not saying that a Firmware Update affects IRQ assignment but rather reflects performance where a new driver is most likely assigned to a firmware update.

I mean, no kidding.

Basics!

Who uses a burned iso anymore to update firmware? Just use the software they provide its quick and easy.

Samsung has responded to certain web sites and press papers. RMA your device and you will be fine.

My update was fine in win8.1 environment using Magician without encryption and without loss of speed.
Very lucky I guess

Fix: So happened I had an identical 1tb SSD and an identical computer system. Using Samsungs dos boot firmware update utility I booted to the cd (please make note to change parameters in bios to boot compatible cd drive. I let the dos program run (now able to identify the uncorrupted ssd) up to the point where it asked me if I wanted to flash the drive by typing "y". I hot swapped the good ssd for the corrupted one and hit y all the way to reboot....getting a mismatch error. After a couple of short prayers I took the drive out and put it back in the original computer and shazaam...my OS is back completely intact.

Friggin' smart, dude. Congrats.

I got an 256gb 850 Pro in early May, cloned a 128gb Plextor to it with Todo Backup - Magician didn't work - and since then have had repeated boot problems into Windows 8.1 Pro x64. I did have UEFI and Legacy mixed up a little bit in my BIOS settings, but that's not the problem (Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H-BK mobo). Rather than repeat everything here, for anyone interested in the specifics, see my initial post at the TweakTown Gigabyte forum (link below). One thing I noticed since that initial post is that the failed starts are much more likely to occur, or occur continuously rather than just once, on restarts or while the computer/Samsung SSD is still warm, than first thing in the morning or after sitting awhile. http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyt...ngs-dont-hold-ga-z97x-ud5h-bk.html#post499311.

I'm using Magician 4.6 and it says the firmware EXM02B6Q is up to date. Magician's System Info also says the SSD is connected through a 3Gb/s (SATA 2) port instead of a 6Gb/s one, but the Z97X board is all SATA 3 ports, and the SATA cable is SATA 6Gb/s compliant. What should I make of this?

As for the firmware, I see there are fixes for the firmware problem around, but my questions are 1) is that likely my problem and 2) how does one flash an SSD. Thanks,
