Reading this thread it sounds like you has 'Major on Third' type RAM. The Chips are Samsung but the construction and Board are third party. And it'll be this third party thats 'SUX', not Samsung.

If it doesn't have the white label on the stick, it is just generic pcb with samsung chips an these are not even close to what true samsung will run. Here is a pic of a 512meg stick with label an on the pcb it will have samsung writen on it.

Googlegear does not sell true Samsung on Samsung, hence why their description says "SAMSUNG DDR DRAM CHIP ON BOARD". It's always been Samsung chips on 3rd party PCB. I bought a 512mb stick of Samsung PC2700 from them back in March and it was a 3rd party PCB. Still a pretty good stick though, I can run it up to 178mhz at default SPD settings. It could probably go higher but my 8SRX mobo kinda sucks for hardcore overclocking.

Agreed but i guess im still gunna call em today (i had alot of school work to do last night and today) and try to get the fee for the restock dropped. I love googlegear, everything i have gotten from HDs, to mice to cpus have all been very good to me. But i dont like neweggs shipping (too high!) Sh!t $3-4 for two day shipping is not bad at all!!! But im thinking of ordering the corsiar tonite and getting it sometime next week or just wait till sun and order it, im very impatient if you all havent noticed But I know its the ram, the motherboard and other sh!t i have is very reliable and hell its not an AMD LOL (some of my bias humor ) But thanx again guys for the responses

Seriously though, Corsair is just hand-picked Samsung and Winbond (I think, lately) on Corsair PCBs.

Chiz
Bleh really? XMS you're talking about? Cause I'm about to get myself some PC3200 Corsair.. Hope it's not a bad thing or I get lucky ... etc

Corsair is tested at the advertised speed, and guaranteed to meet or exceed that spec. If you buy something cheaper which is guaranteed to run at higher latencies, it MIGHT run as well as the Corsair, but you shouldn't expect it to. There are no free absolutes.

Yeah I know about the advertised speed and all but I'm just saying that I hope I get the real thing or at least its stability and performance.

I've been running Samsung 256MB PC2700 CTL RAM for months without any problem. Sweet ram.

Like other people said, you got a generic samsung RAM. My friend bought the same exact thing from googlegear. The original Samsung RAM should look like this. (CTL ones... DTL ones have a different sticker)

My Samsung CTL Picture

Corsair XMS series use hand picked Samsung or Winbond chips. They don't always run at those speed though. It depends on many things, but I've heard many XMS series not running at the guaranteed speed on their rig. My friend got the XMS 256MB PC2700 CAS2 RAM, but it won't boot unless it lowers the CAS to 2.5. I told him many times to RMA it back and get the new one, but he was too lazy.

I have Samsung 333
it doesn't O/C well... but it runs at CAS2 333 with perfectly fine stability.

it's not O/Cers memory.. but it seems very solid.

SSXeon5 you aren't alone, I bought a 512MB stick of Samsung PC2700 and it can only run at pc2100, I thought it was just me. It's on a 3rd party PCB. I would call and try to return it, but it's past the 15 day warranty I think.

Again, it depends on if its Samsung original, or OEM and the version of chips. My original PC2700 CTL runs DDR400 just fine. I also had an OEM stick of CTL PC2700 that ran DDR400 just as well. From what I hear, the CTL were the best chips.

Corsair XMS is not Samsung. Corsair uses Winbond. Some early Corsair PC2700 was Samsung, but not anymore.

Well I'm buying Corsair XMS PC3200 from GoogleGear, good idea or go to Newegg for it ($91 @ GoogleGear, $101 @ Newegg)
I mean, will I get sent a Samsung under a Corsair heat spreader or ....
or at least how will the chances be?

I've been going with Newegg lately, as their CS is top-notch. An extra $10 isn't much if you run into a problem. I just RMA'd a RAID card on Friday. They are cross-shipping to me with 2 day fedex at no charge, as I couldn't exactly ship my current RAID card to them while I'm using it After reading through some horror stories about restocking fees with Googlegear, its worth the peace of mind.
