Only for a short time, though. Version 3.5 is going to support multiple tuners.

The current Beta supports multiple tuners, so it is coming in the next release. Snapstream is a awesome piece of software, and probably the best money i've spent on anything computer related in a long ass time. I personally prefer SS to MythTV, because I kinda dig the interface more. In other words, I have to explain it less to people that come over and use my TV.

Right. MythTV, SageTV, BeyondTV, etc. are all software PVR's (that's the TIVO functionality). It's just software. You have to get the hardware.

Go with a TV tuner card with a hardware encoder. The Hauppauge PVR 250 is an easy recommendation. It's about as close to an industry standard as you can get. It's supported by everyone.

So, I'm looking to purchase a sound card for around $75-100. Do most Tv tuners come with a remote or is that something that I should look for when buying a sound card? I noticed that some of sound cards have them (the $ ones) and some tv tuners have them.... are they more standard or do just the $$ tv tuners come with remotes?

The 250s and 350s for $140+ you find on the net have a remote. If you get the 250 by itself for $90, you need a remote.

If I have just normal analog cable with one TV Tuner card (PVR350) in my HTPC, can I record a show and watch a different show at once? or do I need two tuner cards to do this?

Also is BeyondTV strictly for PVR stuff or does it let you organize your music, photos, etc like a Windows Media Center?

if you have a cable splitter with one connection going to computer and the other going directly to the TV then you can watch one channel on the TV and record a different channel on the computer.

for photo/music/movie organization check out myHTPC. it is free and integrates quite well with beyondTV. otherwise, wait til beyondMedia comes out and pay like $50

also, check out the BeyondTV/PVR-250 combo package available for $129. the included PVR-250 is based on the Blackbird chipset and refered to as the "Roslyn." it is different from the OEM MCE PVR-250 and the retail boxed version. it is currently not supported by MythTV or sageTV v1.4 but is supported by GotTV, current version of BeyondTV and SageTV v2.
