I tried putting the PC thats running the server on DMZ on my Linksys but when I try to connect with other computers it says connection failed. Do I need to connect to the IP my ISP provides or the one the router asignes. Even when I go to local games in BF1942 it shows the game/server but when I try to connect it says the same thing as mentioned before.

Any ideas? Running 1.4 patch.

Are you trying to connect through the LAN or over the internet? If you're trying to connect to your server from a friend's house, you need to use the IP from your ISP. If you're trying to connect on the LAN, use the local IP that your router provides.

Can you run a dedicated desert combat server and connect to it and play from the same PC? I tried it with my 2100+/512mb DDR system and it crashs back to desktop after the map loads so far.

Any ideas?

I run BF1942 from behind a Linksys, and with the router on default settings, the game runs fine.

LOL booty copies. You don't know what your talking about man. I've read you can play on 2 PC's over a LAN(not online) with a single bought version of the game. Ppl on EA forums are having this problem as well. I've seen I don't know how many posts on BF1942 forums where ppl are having this problem. I wouldnt want to count them thats for sure.

Don't go saying someone is using a warez copy when you don't know.

I have a linksys also and when running an internet server on BHD, CS or 1942 my friends cannot find my server (if they do find it they can't connect), not sure if I'm on DMZ or not, I've changed routers a few time and forget how this one is setup, the SMC baricade was the only one that worked OK, netgear & linksys have problems allowing gameplay ( also game voice problems, so thats disconnected too).

This won't help much but I play BF1942 alot and I do know that many people have the "data differs from server" issue even without the LAN or router added to the mix.

Not to knock this forum, but my experience has been you won't get much useful game help here. You are much better to go to a forum specific to the game Try .here

And I agree with you sniper. Don't know what it is about AnandTech (I see it more here than any other forum), but if you post here about a game problem, it will not be long before some @$$hole tells you to "go buy the game pirate".

BTW..If you find a way to keep this very buggy game from resetting your desktop icons upon exit, let me know! And eklass, No I didn't plunk down 40 bucks for a copy...I plunked down 80 bucks for two!

that usually means that the 2 machines aren't patched to the same version. I had the issue once with 2 machines that were running the same version. Uninstalled both of them and reinstalled using the same patches and it all started working then.
