BF2 over LAN

I bought BF2 DVD version a couple of days ago and today I opened it and was bummed to see that it only had one DVD the "installer" disk.

Is this going to prevent me from playing BF2 over LAN with other computers on my network?

How many disks does the CD version come on? I think I may wanna get the CD version so I can install and paly over the LAN on multiple computers.

Why would it prevent you from playing LAN? DVD disks hold 4.7GB where as a regular CD holds 750MB (or maybe 800). It is just more senseable if you have the game on a DVD, to just use one DVD.

Again, I don't think it will stop you.

BTW, Can you even exchange for the CD version once you open it?

Why dont you just start the game with the DVD in one machine then once it is running, take the DVD out and put it in the other machines on the lan? I dont think the game looks at the dvd once it is running. Have not tested it though. Worth a try.

you could always use a nocd patch on the machines without the dvd.

Even if you got the cd version, don't you imagine that there's only 1 play disc with it too?
P.S.- Bf2 comes with a dedicated server that you can run without needing the cd.

Uhhh... possibly.

I doubt getting the no CD patch if you own the legal version of the game is anything criminal. Plus, like Jojo said, the dedicated server will allow you to serve w/o a CD/DVD. But you would have to resort to using the No-CD for the player computers minus 1.

Technically, everyone having their own copy is the best possible situation for EA.

Using a nocd patch on one computer is fine. Running multiple copies with only one license is definitely illegal.

BF1942 and BFV worked with any of the CDs. In a LAN environment you could use 1 box to play with 2 systems (1942) or 3 systems (BFV). Obviously these could not be used online at the same time, only 1 CD key per machine online at the same time.

I do not know if this changed with BF2, but since the DVD only works with one system, I will go ahead and assume the CD version only works with one.

I don't think this is about trying to do something illegal as much as it is discovering if what was clearly okay in BF1942 and BFV is still okay in BF2.

Only the installer CD (Disc 1) works with the CD set anyway.
