"Are you pleased with how smooth your game play is?"

Yes. My framerates are usually in the high 40s to mid 50s. Not the best, but it is good enough for me to play well. THe best thing is it runs very smoothly, no lag spikes or slowdowns, except in maybe the first 10 seconds of joining the server, but it goes away quick.

"If not, what needs to be improved? (Hardware upgrade, game patch, new drivers?)"

Gameplay is fine, but I feel that the server browser and overall menu responsiveness should be improved in a patch.

This was with the demo. I just got retail yesterday and the game runs significantly better. This is from the Fraps benchmarking utility from the demo:

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
62861, 1201773, 0, 101, 52.307

And this was with the retail version:

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
102162, 1373803, 0, 101, 74.364

This was with the same settings. Is there any reason why it is performing so much better? The only change w/ my hardware is I had the retail version on a different hard drive then the demo.

Whats the highest allowable resolution in your normal windows desktop settings? Do you have the latest drivers?

this is what i did:

i was running the drivers from my initial install from last winter and last week i installed 7772 drivers from nivida... was having what i thought was lag problems in bf2 but come to find out my frame count sometimes got as low at high 20's (card was set on max with app control) they usually run around 50 until they get taxed...

talked to bfg this morning and asked if i added some additional ram if that would help framerates, he said no and inquired if i had the bf2 drivers installed...no...they come with the dvd...

did a removal and used cleansweep and put on new drivers this morning...

bout the best i can do and have good framerates is cut back on some of the video options in the bf2 menu... rates will run in 60's and 70's (needed this high of a count to avoid the situations where they go down...don't see anything below 35 now)

my highest option in the nvidia menu is 1680 x 1050

the highest option on the video control for bf2 is WAY less than that...think its something like 1152 x 864 at 75 HZ or 1024 x 768 at 60 HZ.... thats why i was wondering how people can get higher resolution...maybe i am doing something wrong or don't understand it for the bf2 options in my way of thinking override what ur windows will do...

someone can correct me if i am wrong

thanks

Resolution: 1600 x 1200
Settings: All high
FSAA: 4x

Video card: 7800GTX
CPU: AMD 64 3000+
RAM: 2GB

Pleased with smoothness? It was marginally OKAY with 1.5GB (occasionally split-second stutter) but about to test it with 2GB

At what resolution are you playing BF2? The default, whatever that is (for now)
What level of eye candy (Low, Medium, High)? Everything on HIGH
What level of FSAA? 4x

What videocard do you use? Geforce 6800 GTO
What CPU? P4 3.2 Ghz
How much RAM do you have? 2 GB

Are you pleased with how smooth your game play is? Absolutely. I was pleased with how smooth my 1 GB of memory was. But when I upgraded to 2 GB last week I was very surprised, and now get a lot more fun out of the game at highest settings.
If not, what needs to be improved? (Hardware upgrade, game patch, new drivers?) Just waiting for EA's august update so I can have favorites/buddies and to fix some of the problems in the game to make it more playable.

Runs perfectly, but seeing all these people I'm gonna bump up the res to 1280z1024, and when my new monitor comes try 1600x1200. I'm fine with how it looks on medium, so no need to up the settings.

Winchester 3200+ @2.45ghz

extremely impressed with GPU, very smooth, not a hiccup, never fast enough though lol
what needs to be improved is I need a card with MORE PIPES and more memory aperture as long as its still DDR3. Memory allows me to jack up AF settings with barely a hit in FPS.

to run BF2 at custom resolutions not offered by the game menu, do the following:

go to Start-->run--> type "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\bf2.exe" +mem1 +fullscreen1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

which will give you 1280x1024. substitute whichever appropriate resolution in there that you are wanting. when you type the command, make sure to TYPE IN THE QUOTATION MARKS or it will not work.

once you run BF2 once with that command, it will run at that resolution in the future no matter how you start the game (shortcuts, autostart, etc.)

this guide does pretty well with the video settings and screenshot comparisons. I follow it pretty closely except with AA @ 2x and some other stuff at High.

At what resolution are you playing BF2? 1024x768
What level of eye candy (Low, Medium, High)? Mixed medium/High
What level of FSAA? 2x

What videocard do you use? Dell 256MB 6800nu
What CPU? P4 3.2
How much RAM do you have? 1gig about to add another gig

Are you pleased with how smooth your game play is? For the most part. I'm anxious to see if the extra gig will help much if at all. I also have an X-fi which I cn't really tell if it's made a FPS difference or not (it HAS, however, allowed VOIP to work for me and sounds great).

Are you pleased with how smooth your game play is? yes, it's really smooth. I am going to bump up the settings a bit like my resolution as soon as I get a chance (make sure you don't put AA on outside the game as well as inside the game settings).
