BF2 solo play w/ bots

I've been playing this a lot offline... is it me or are the bots HORRIBLE? Even on easy level, due to horrendous gameplay by my "team mates" I can hardly win map.

If you get in a vehicle being driven by them, forget about it... they drive damn near aimlessly, and without reason. And often like they are stuck in 1st gear...

Sounds like the bots are just like the original BF1942 bots........ horrible.

Bots in BF2 are a HUGE improvement over BF42. Just play back to back BF2 and BF42 and you'll see the difference.

I wish they would've made the game support the 64 player maps in single player.

Not that I'm all that interested in playing single player, but I want training for them flying vehicles. It's hard enough to get ahold of one in a multiplayer game, and then you don't know what the hell you're doing when you do.

You can do that in the demo if your just looking for some practice.

you can open the 32 and 64 size maps for single player...I cant remember how and I goto go to class right now and I will post back later. but you can open and play them.

Here's some info for modding the demo. Don't think it works on the retail though. Also, I wasn't able to play the demo online until I went back to stock, so I'm not sure I'd try modding the retail SP.

I know you can add 32 or 64 BOTS to a 16 player map, but I've never heard of anybody unlocked 32 and 64 player maps in single player.

You can practice against "live" targets in single player.

Operating Clean Sweep has a blackhawk and an F15 (USMC Bomber).

couldnt you just "host" your own server that nobody could join, climb into a helo/jet and practice?

It's called Create LAN\local server.

You could, but I think he's trying to get some practice shooting and bombing stuff

Start a single player game. Note the IP on the loading screen.

On the other computers, Connect to IP, enter that.

Co-op mode. Enjoy!

You just need to modify the aidefault.con file. TweakGuides has an article on it.

I actually think the bots are decent in single player. I play on medium skill level and win 90% of the time. It's cool they actually form squads and take orders, and if you don't like their driving you can take over the driver's seat (F1).

I was going to say something about only being able to play the 16 player maps but after reading JustAnAverageGuy's post I'll have to check out that tweak.

EDIT: Bah I misread his post... you can increase the bot count but not the map size.

They just put up a coop server (bots vs people) and in their forum they talked about a couple of tools for controlling the number and difficulty of bots.

I haven't had a chance to play on their server yet, but I'll probably give it a try tonight just to see what it's like.

My quick visit of their site didn't yield any info about using bigger maps for single play.

EA\DICE removed the ability to unlock weapons in singleplayer with the 1.01 patch. The TG article below explains how you can do it on the retail (1.00) version. Keep in mind that the 1.01 patch was officially recalled and EA recommends you DON'T install it.

Co-Op Mode: If you want to add bots to a local game and play in 'Co-op' style with a friend against them, first make sure you're connected to the Internet, and using your Online account start a singleplayer game. Write down the IP number shown during the loading screen. Then, on your friend's computer once again make sure they are connected to the Internet and using an Online account, then go to the Multiplayer screen and under the Internet server browser click the 'Join IP' button and enter the IP address you wrote down earlier. You should then be able to play with each other against bots on the 16 player singleplayer maps. Thanks to AverageNewbie for this tip.

Someone has hacked 7 of the single player maps to be larger and run with 30 bots.

The maps are roughly 32 player size, but the flags are concentrated in the 16 player area due to the AI limitations.

I haven't tried it since single player isn't my thing with BF2, but from the forumplanet posts it seems to work with a some bugs being reported. This is a 1.0 release and it looks like the guy is still working to remove the bugs.

Are there hacks for the game? I'm usually a pretty good pilot and can get away from most fighter jets trying to hunt me down. I played in a large game the other day (I think 45-50 players) where this one guy was so dominant in his fighter jet that it made me think twice. I couldn't shake him off my tail no matter what I did. He would shoot me down every time. He was deadly accurate with his bombs too. I think I had more overall kills than him (since I was concentrating on boming flag sites), but he was dominant in dogfights. He only died once in the entire match when I shot him down while he was trying to reload on his missiles. If I knew of a target locking hack...I would probably think he was using it.

I love this game and really hope that people don't start cheating left and right. Cheating has ruined so many good games for me.

The bots just plain SUCK. The most irritating thing I've come across is that at some point during many games, they just decide to stop taking orders. They'll just be stationary and flip me the bird if I tell them to do something. It usually happens late in the round, but as soon as they check out, I'm farked.

Another irritating thing is that there might be two routes from A to B, and one might include a bridge. They might head to the bridge and, if it's blown, they'll just stand there like fvcks and have a smoke until I come along and fix it.

These bots need help.

You can start a local server with any size map and then join it by yourself. You'll have free reign.
