BF2 - Texture Glitches & Flickering w/ 6800GT

I get texture glitches & texture flickering (black/white/polygons) w/ my eVGA 6800GT when playing Battlefield 2. Ive monitored the temp - it goes from the 60C's (idle), to the mid 80C's during gameplay. Usually, the temp stays up there nearing 90C. Say I play the game for about 1 hour straight, the game begins to glitch. Could the heat be a problem?

Yeah, those temps are kinda high to be honest. You could open the case & blow a big fan onto the video card & play to make sure that overheating is the issue. I'm not sure why a 6800gt would run up to 90 though, as my X800XL used to not run nearly that hot...nor did my 6600gt...both of which I used for BF2.

I have a spare 120mm fan lying around. I think Im going to manipulate my crap case and make a hole to put the fan in or something (customization  ). Would the 120mm help it cool down to a normal temp?

oddly enough I have the exact same problem with BF2...but it's right from the start with my 6800GT...so in my case it'se definetly not temp related

Im glad Im not the only one with this problem... Sucks for us though. Anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be? Defective card (cant be, because every other game works flawlessly), temp, drivers, etc...? I have enough know-how to figure out problems myself, but this one is a stumper. Any help is appreciated.

try running it on stock speeds if you oc'ed it. try a different card if possible. try running on the lowest settings and work your way up.

Try loosening your memory timings, and if you're not running that PC2100 at the correct speed, you should do so.

I don't know about that board, but go into your BIOS and make sure that your memory is set to DDR266.

Theres nothing in my BIOS that indicates DDR266... I never changed anything in there anyways, other than my CPU clock speed. My memory is a little bit on the cheap side though -- could it be the system memory and not the graphic card?

Ok, so after buying new memory (1GB GeIL PC3200 [2x 512MB Dual Channel]), the problem persisted. I then took apart my video card hsf and found the problem, or did I... The heatsink on the GPU was full of dust, right by the blower. Its the piece you cant see because its coverd by the painted metal plate. I cleaned that up along with the other parts. I then cleaned the base of the heatsink and the GPU and applied new thermal compound (arctic ice 5). I closed everything up. This little tune up dropped my temps by over 10 degrees C. I now idle at 48 degrees C and go up to mid to upper 70's (max) during BF2 and COD2. Now, here's the trick, I still get glitches and texture flicks, although not as much, in BF2. COD2 runs fine, but BF2's problem is ongoing.

I hope this will help some people, because I read that eVGA's tend to run hot and people buy aftermarket hsf etc... This tune up did the temperature job for me, but didnt fix my problem in BF2. If anyone has any info on how to fix this. Please reply, it would be greatly appreciated.
