they need to fix:

Server browser (battlelog, really?)
Squads
Key bindings

everything else was fine.

Big one for me is the option for a menu you can safely adjust settings while not having to be live in a game.

If we have a browser make sure its fullscreen by default or every time you adjust settings it doesn't go out of full screen.

Got tired of pressing alt/enter every time i toyed with a setting.

Battlelog is fine for me,but i fine origin pretty useless myself the game can do without it when the full exe for the game comes out.

alt+enter killed it for me. I would prefer to just load into the game when I click play, not into a web browser. It is a cool idea, and I think it could work....but maybe as a stand alone thing?

Clicking play in origin starts game, and has a built in browser....OR you can check it out on the web browser and then hit play in game.

Squads still suck......

My impressions of the beta:

1. Barring any strange bugs battlelog is good. It has a lot of cool functionality and works well as a server browser and a stat tracker. At the same time, Origin is useless. It serves no purpose and it's not even well integrated with battlelog (separate friends lists).

2. Battlelog is missing some functionality that it needs. Squad organizing, weapons and class configuration, key binding, voice chat, etc. all can and should be handled there. Keeping the game engine separate from the interface and online elements makes a lot of sense from a technical standpoint. There needs to be a button or menu option in-game to quickly switch to the battlelog so you can change settings. Relying on alt-tab to switch and alt-f4 to quit isn't going to cut it.

3. Metro is a shitty choice to preview a battlefield game. Especially since people were able to play Caspian for a while and raved about how awesome it is. Without tanks, jets, choppers and go-karts loaded up with c4 it's not really battlefield.

4. Frostbite II is phenomenal. For as amazing as it looks it runs beautifully on older hardware. It also loads very quickly.

5. The weapons are not well-balanced in this build.

In the graphics options once you launch the game there is a way to make it open full screen.

Also, i never alt enter when I need to go check something on desktop. Alt tab works perfectly in this game.
I know. I have fullscreen enabled. The game still opens minimized. Half the time I zone out and it takes me a moment to realize the game is sitting there waiting on the tray. It opens in fullscreen.

I also wasn't talking about alt-tabbing. Simply saying the fullscreen toggle (alt+enter) doesn't work for me unless I use the left alt button.

Seems to me Metro is just a way for DICE to test three different environments with one map: outdoor natural, underground/indoor, and outdoor urban.

Does Origin allow you to "return" a game you pre-purchased before it comes out? I cant even play BF3, because Dice decided to release a beta that doesnt let me change the mouse bindings. Im not going to change the way Ive been playing for over a decade just because they released an old code, or are too lazy. And I would much rather have it on steam.

-bingo
-alpha \ beta MIGHT have been loose builds\codes per server monitoring feed back on built in stats per builds\codes\range of settings.
-in house testing builds released[beta] for testing.
-some servers have certain bugs others don't ,so slightly different builds?

No, I cant. I have tried. I can set a keyboard button to a mouse button via setpoint on my G500, true. But there is no way to bind zoom to the thumb button (mouse4) on my mouse. It is hard coded to mouse2. I have bound jump to mouse2 and it works fine, but zoom was bound do it, and it will not re-bind to another key. This is a common problem, and is also common knowledge. Try looking around, even in this same page it is mentioned.

And I never said anything about steam binding mouse buttons. I like steam much better than Origin and would rather use it.

Try some common sense before trying to diss someone.

Speaking of common sense. You have none if you are worried that you won't be able to bind keys in the full version. They have stated already that the code that directs certain keys to certain functions is absent from the beta.

i disagree with #4. i don't think the game looks amazing, and it very poorly uses modern hardware, nevermind old stuff.

Jumping into this thread late - can't read it all at work.

Please tell me that BF3 hasn't sold it's soul to the run and gun devil. I've always loved the open map games that I became addicted to in Tribes and then found in a great little game called Battlefield 1942. BF2 had some tight maps for the twitchers but still had plenty of large maps.

Will BF3 follow in its predecessor's footsteps or will it try to win over the CS crowd and go mainly urban and small? Have we seen the last of the vast maps that allowed for a fight on four fronts all at once?

I know these are a lot of open ended questions. I just haven't had time to research where BF3 is heading (even though I already bought it). Just thought I'd get some insight from those who seem more connected to the game that I am.

edit...
I'm looking for maps like El Alamein, Gazala, Highway Tampa, etc.

We've only seen two maps so far. Metro is COD-style infantry only and Caspian Border is a sprawling, traditionally "battlefield" style conquest map. So both types will be there in the final product, but I don't think anyone knows how many of each type there will be exactly.

I dont think this beta will answer all those questions. But Im enjoying the beta and theoretically the retail should be even better.

I will say the beta map, metro, is not run and gun friendly.

At least for me, BF3 opens minimized. Are you sure it isn't just starting minimized? I have to use left alt for Alt+enter to work. Have you tried that?

No the icon would pop up and close three seconds later. Worked fine at the beginning of the beta, but something changed.

Never tried using left alt, never though it would make a difference...

I'm probably going to pick this up. The beta process for me went from

- Must Buy
- Wow, they made some questionable decisions
- I really can't rebind my keys?
- Fuck this game
- OK, this is actually sorta fun
- Alright, battle log isn't so terrible, it's kinda nice actually
- Game is pretty fun,
- Game has some serious bugs, some questionable design decisions, but I think i'll still buy day one now.

I'm still apprehensive, but as long as the single player campaign is decent, multiplayer even on rush/metro (which I think is the combo I will like the least for this game) is pretty fun for me now, I think it'll be worth picking up.

Just wish I could get it on steam so I can have all my games in the same place, and I wish I had a better computer, I'm running everything on low and the game still looks pretty good (graphics glitches aside)

What is the rationale behind the bolded part? That makes no sense to me.

Is there even going to be a SP campaign? BF2 didn't have one. BC2 did and that was all I enjoyed out of it.
