BF3 Beta reviews/impressions

Well I managed to play 10 minutes before it crashed. Go to install the recommended Nvidia drivers and it tells me

"Nvidia installer cannot continue: This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."

I'm on a laptop with Nvidia 525m and Optimus. Any ideas?

Usually laptop cards need to have drivers released by your specific laptop manufacturer. That being said. the 525m has nowhere near enough horsepower for this game.

I play BC2 just fine on medium. Even if I had to turn down the resolution and go down to low settings, I know the game will play. You are wrong.

Also my current driver is a Nvidia beta driver, not from the manufacturer.

do a search of low ping servers most do not have the lag,
I feel this was not meant for release to the public , but I guess after all the negs. on all the bf forums they decided to open it back up.
-just to reminder THIS pc only so enjoy.
and I get 55-80 fps , pc in my sig.

Problem solved. I forgot there are separate notebook drivers. For anyone else using a laptop, the drivers are here:

The game runs fine on my 525m, 1366x768, medium. For those of you with lesser hardware, don't let the hardcore gamers discourage you, you don't need a $200 video card to play this game.

After trying both maps, Metro is obviously not a Battlefield-style map, it feels more like COD. Clearly thats an attempt to grab COD players. Hopefully there won't be many of these in the full game.

Caspian, on the other hand, is classic Battlefield-style play, and after playing that I don't really see what everyone is complaining about. Feels like Battlefield 2 with a new engine. The graphics seem a little over contrasty to me, but it looks good.

this game will not be ready at launch. the game is already gold and has errors in it that make it unplayable. anyone who thinks that this is going to be fixed with a first day patch is wishing upon the only star they can and its a dim one. the graphics look good even with ultra locked out.

Errors such as Clipping into the ground and enemy's not loading until you get shot break the game and in regards to the clipping issue are a problem with the games engine itself not an easy bug fix.

Finally there has been word on the bf3 forums that the beta is a 3 month old build and that all problems have been fixed in the new build. If so first EA has there heads up there Rears and second worst publicity ever. You know the saying "there is no such thing as bad publicity" well that's true unless you sell a product and its being advertized as a lemon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcNeorjXMrE

Has anyone managed to teamkill someone in the last few days? Seems like at the beginning of the beta this would always happen, and now it never does no matter how stupidly I fire.

Did DICE just turn it off everywhere server-side?

you are mistaken the term "going gold" refers to the time in which a game is set to be printed to disk and gotten ready to ship. seeing how there is less then 20 days tell the game comes out I'm fairly sure im right on this one...... unless of course there is a fleet of magical flying "Electronic Arts Pegasus" I wasn't previously aware of?

It probably has just gone gold or will in a few days. The console versions need about two weeks to be certified by Sony and MS.

There was a post either in this thread or the sticky that most of these issues are fixed in the retail release.

This is a beta test for their backend - not the game itself.

that said my point was that it was a bad marketing attempt which it was battlefield 2 is my favorite war fps of all time and I don't plan on getting bf3 tell 6 months after launch just based on what I have seen in the beta.

I sure do love it when fanboys get all huffy and defensive about a product they have no reason to have pride for

I think this game will be ready on the 25th maybe with a day one patch coming from reports in the alpha or perhaps beta assuming they can work that fast.

Picking up my preorder a week after release in case of server issues or if they release a patch.

Should be pretty good so let the whiners and brave ones battle this one out for the first week of release after the 25th .

When I first played the beta it launched in Chrome and worked. Somewhere along the line it broke.

Yep it's over.

Ended roughly 3AM this morning Eastern time.

As a good BF2 chopper pilot my one review will be on the BF3 choppers.

They fly well. Closer to BF2 handling than BC2 handling. Don't let anyone tell you differently. Circle strafing is no problem, the chopper can be 'thrown' sideways in flight, and controls are much more responsive than in BC2. The BC2 heli was a big tub of shit imo.

I have a XFX 6950 and a Silverstone FT02b. I have at least 3 " between the fans and the end of the GPU. I would recomend this case to anyone realy for the looks, the cooling and the way it keeps dust out.

I really don't understand all the talk about beta being an old build. A beta is meant to test for bugs before the official release. If you have a newer and better build, why on earth would you test an older build that's a few months old? How exactly are they going to iron out bugs if they don't use the latest build at the time of the beta? My company develops its own software and I can tell you all these talk of old build are just nonsense.

The open beta was almost certainly to test their network infrastructure first and foremost, the bug fixes are secondary and usually have already been fixed long ago in the final build.

With that said, like it or not the open beta is also, effectively, a demo of the game. The fact that the BF3 beta was buggy is a reflection on the final game itself.

But Battlefield isn't the only game with issues, Call of Duty Black Ops was literally unplayable on pc at launch with the rig in my sig. The multiplayer ran at sub 25fps and was a stuttering mess, and the Call of Duty series is reknowned for being thoroughly polished. And well it should be, it's the same game engine over and over.

I never tried voice chat, was it enabled?

I think it could definitely use more team play/better communication.
