BF3 Beta reviews/impressions

IE browser? And I have to install a plug in? REALLY? Ok fine, I guess EA will force me to use IE (willing to let that go). I also think there is a way to use it with Mozilla.

Finally set up graphics/keys, my PC seems to run on Ultra just fine (which is weird since I only have 460 GTX and Dual Core E8400)

SO first off, graphics. This game looks NOTHING like the "almighty" videos we have been watching. Frankly it looks no better than Bad Company 2 (ok maybe little better). Perhaps they consolidated it or it's just beta? Something is not right cause I can't max out BC2 on my rig...

But in general everything seems to have that plastic look to it. Crysis 2 has the same crap IMO, just looks bad.

So graphics are no big deal I guess...willing to get pass that.

Game play, only Rush, not a big fan of this game mode but I played for an hour or 2 and overall there is tons of run and gunning. I guess the guns feel ok not sure if I can say I enjoyed myself, somewhat disappointed.

Game made me feel exactly the same way Crysis 2 demo did.....just bleh

Glad I purchased Red Orchestra 2, I don't think I will be buying BF3 but time will tell. I def have to put more hours into it.

Can you even load the game at ultra?

Ultra is available for beta even though it shows in the settings, that was confirmed.

Battlelog opened up in firefox for me and installed the plugin in firefox. Don't know why it opened IE for you.

I am using the latest FF7.

I am running it on Ultra with 2x AA and AF and HBAO, but no v-sync. I get about 40 fps at 1400x900. Its all about resolution. I haven't played it long, so not sure if the FPS drops during gun fights. I played for less than 5 minutes.
I am using a Q6600 and HD6850.

Im running at 1900x1200 and FPS is above 30...weird

Post some screenshots, I don't know....game just doesn't look all that great.

It is what it is. The game looks good but its certainly not groundbreaking as we were led to believe from previews.

I played about 10 minutes...experienced many of the same bugs I had when playing the Alpha. I'm not too impressed with prone being in the game if all it is is glitching beneath the map. Death animations are still slow and hit detection for knifing is non-existent. And no way to enable a multiple button mouse. After 10 min and experiencing all of this again, I uninstalled. I cancelled my pre-order and will wait for user commentary post retail release to see if this stuff is fixed before I buy it, otherwise I'll just be pissed whenever I try to play a game. I'm saving myself a stroke later by doing this.

I had tons of fun with game. It has some minor annoyances but its very playable.

I play on everything maxed on GTX460 (minus AA, don't like it anyways). The key is quad core, makes a huge diffrence.

Their biggest mistake for the beta is making Operation Metro the only map you can easily access. Caspian Border Conquest is soooooo much better gameplay wise and even graphically somehow.

Metro sucks, rush mode isn't very fun, and the UI doesn't make any sense. Why do I have to spawn and hide somewhere just so I can change my video settings? Stupid.

Also the so called "in game footage" videos we were fed was definitely not in game. The graphics are nothing groundbreaking.

As I've said in the main thread, I'm very disappointed by the BF3 beta. I doubt such disappointment will be resolved by the release version of the game, but I suppose we will see.

Seriously Caspian Border is like a whole different game... Running this game maxed out @1920x1080 on SLI 480s it's smooth as butter and several times I just sat and admired the scenery..

I was disappointed at first at the visuals in Metro, but CB is just amazing. I can't say it enough - it's like 2 different games.......

Is there a way to play around with settings without being in game and alive? I was rebinding my keys and got spawnkilled, so I lost all me work, extremely frustrating.

Nope, it sucks balls that is the only way to adjust settings. Basically spawn, run behind something and go prune then mess with your settings.

Yea, Caspian Border is awesome - Metro, uhhh. Probably will not play that in the actual game.

I still say we need to remember it is BETA and exacly that for this purpose and all these comments.

This is a BETA, I always laugh when people complain about this stuff. You are there to help test bugs not evaluate the final product which you don't have lol. Maybe you should wait till you play the actual game to make a determination about the actual game.

Sure if you want to say these things about the beta sure, the graphics aren't great and lots of other problems. But that is why it's there, not so you can try out the actual build of battlefield 3, it's not a demo trying to get you to buy the game.

pretty much echoing everyone here. Played for a bit, and I am done. If I wanted a browser based game I would play quake live, which I dont play much either. It is like paying 60 bucks for runescape or something.

Browser-based game? lolwut. The server browser is actually far more functional then previous BF iterations.

seems like a solid game, but it just isn't my style. too much running around, not enough killing. i'm an old counter-strike junkie. used to smaller maps and faster paced gameplay.

i think that's fair. first impressions mean a lot. if the guy doesn't want to pay for something he wasn't completely sold on, why should he have to give it another chance?
