Why in they world do people pre order games? I don't understand...

Sometimes you get some type of benefit or free stuff. In the case of BF3 you got early access to the beta and you get the back to karkland expansion/map for free when it is released. Worth it for Karkland

pffftt

I think people need to stop supporting EA's ways, cause they will continue feeding us their BS.

This game should be in MUCH MUCH MUCH better shape a month before release, I'm sorry.

Great. You've expressed your opinion *numerous* times and obviously this game isn't for you. Maybe you should play something else instead of shitting all over Battlefield?

The phreak makes me think of Brink .
Great hype but a thumbs down.

No mind about BF3 anyways-

Rage is coming next week.

If there's any game destined to have tons of hype just to be a let down, it's Rage.

Don't get your hopes up and you'll never be disappointed.

*golfclap*

I've been trying to get people to understand this for the past couple days.

If the final release continues to have blatant problems which should have been fixed during developement, I'm very tempted to do a chargeback on my CC to Origin and buy the game when it's running properly. I do have two things holding me back though... I bought it using 25% coupon and I upgraded my video card to a 6950 anticipating the Beta.

Fool me once Dice.... Fool me once....

You've only been fooled by Dice once? Doing better than me.

For online games, it's to get in on day one while the community is the biggest.

Nowadays pre-orders get you a good discount that you might not see for a couple of months or ever (modern warfare). Also in the case of BF3/Dead Island you get DLC that you would have to pay for later on.

You guys are all fucking retarded. It's a beta...

A true beta.

They didn't sit around going.
"Ok it's one month before release what should we do?"
"How about we stop developing the release build of the game and develop a bug free beta."
"Great idea. Call the coders, and tell them we are not working on the final build of the game any more. It's beta only development for a 2 week release only from now on."

"Ok, makes sense. Get on the horn to the publisher and let them know we are going to be working on this beta from now on."

"Done"

You are all ignorant to the world of game development. The build we are playing is more than likely the original alpha build with a few tweaks. They did not waste precious time and money making a new version of the beta to simply provide us a bug free game while they are basically testing server loads from Battlelog.

Half the major complaints people have are no brainers. They aren't going to waste time fixing such obvious mistakes... You must be a dumb fuck if you think that you won't be able to bind keys in the final game. Or if you think that the menu's will be only accessable while alive in the final version. As for the terrain bug they have already said it's fixed in the final version. Servers are currently not resetting old map destruction data so you fall into old holes in the ground and then clip through the map.

These are the only problems anyone complains about and if you think the final version will have them you are a water head...

wat? are you trolling? metro is a camper's paradise.
No troll just stating a fact. Yes it is a campers paradise, which is why I said "its great for a run and gun camper killer like myself". Because its full of camping targets to run around and kill.

Defenders usually camp when playing Rush on any map, thats just good tactics. What really sucks is being on the attacking team with a bunch of camping snipers.

You could be right...except Dice has a well earned reputation for releasing broken games and patching them down the line. It's cool you have such confidence in them that you're willing to call people fucking retards. we'll see in a month who the fucking retard is.

Enough with the name calling already. Enjoy this for what it is, a beta. Most of the stated glitches are on the backend/server and easily patched. So the notion that they won't be able implement the patches before the game goes 'gold' is erroneous.

Quite simply, this game is going to be badass. For those who insist on complaining about/nitpicking every little thing...don't play it.

The game will not let me bind the keys how I want, so I cannot play. So.. I don't have an opinion yet.

Technically the game has already gone gold if they want to have it ready for release on the 25th.

I think it is fair for people to complain about the bugs, Dice has a history of shoddy releases and in some cases never fixing stuff. So to say it is beta and will be fixed for launch is a bit more benefit of the doubt a lot of us are willing to give, given their history.

So the point of giving us an old alpha that is no where near production code is....to test server load, or to hope that customers don't cancel their pre-order relying on hardcore fan boys like you?

LOL

You're the one who really doesn't know anything about the software life cycle. Now we're going to have to wait another 3-6 months from release date for the production code to be "beta" tested again by paying customers until we'll have a barely playable game.

ALA BC2 style, and all the other battlefields before that.

And it doesn't take alpha, beta, gamma or delta to realize that you've coded a flashlight as strong as the surface of the sun. It takes just common sense.

Eh ... so if I'm a married dude with kids and what not, is it worth the aggravation getting it and trying to run it on day 1, or should I just let it chill out for a month or two till its patched? I've never played a Battlefield game on my PC - just my 360. I really didn't anticipate any real drama w/ buying it until I read this thread a bit.

Even with the small issues, I enjoy the game a lot. But I don't nit pick every little thing like some people. I could care less if the sandbags look totally realistic or not. There are some interface issues which I am sure will be fixed, as they are not major code changes. And there are still some engine issues, but nothing game breaking.

Even if you got it on day 1 and its exactly like it is right now, you should still be able to jump into a game and start killing stuff.

Pic taken while running BF3 beta last night on the other monitor. This CPU just chews it up and spits it out. 4 cores 8 threads of deliciousness.

(Asus p8p67 deluxe, 2600k@4.7, 1.37v, GTX470sc, win7 x64)

Now I need to think about a GPU upgrade... should I go SLI 470's? I am beholden to Nvidia only for various reasons at this point...

Is there a way to toggle the scope instead of holding the button to have the scope?

Also, grenades won't go through bushes, they get stuck when they touch a bush and blow up next to you, if you are in the bush.

Is anybody having problems with the recommended nvidia beta drivers that it says to use when launching the game?

I installed them but they appeared to have corrupted my entire screen. (during windows boot, and windows.. ) Then I re-installed some older ones. The game is still throwing me a warning about not using the beta driver though. The game flickers and glitches all to hell but the rest of my computer doesn't.

I found this out the hard way. Was prune in a bush, tossed a grenade, was wondering why I am not seeing it go over the rocks I just aimed at and then boom, suicide comes up haha.

I made this list for the EA forums, but do you guys agree?

1. Fix Ground Bugs - A MUST FIX
This is specifically aimed at the Operation Metro map where in multiple locations it is far to easy to glitch into the ground, and end up stuck. I would bet DICE has already fixed this, but they claimed to have fixed it by removing destructible ground but the problems have continued. These bugs hinder playing to the point I almost quit several times after getting stuck in what can only be called a "quicksand" of ground polygons.

2. The Squad System
Battlefield has always been a team-centric game where operating in squads gives you significantly more presence on any map you can care to mention. The problems right now include:

-Cannot manually join/leave/lock/rename squads (See BF2) These features MUST BE ADDED, as it stand right now I can't even join a squad with my friends, despite having joined the server using the awesome party system.

-Spawning on any squad member (See BF3 alpha) This is not the right way to buff attacking teams. The system in place during the alpha was superior in almost every way. Being able to spawn on any squad member leads to far less squad organization on public servers, and far less tactical depth for competitive players.

3. Joystick Support
Given DICE has stated multiple times that PC is the lead platform why on earth are my joystick and all my friend's joysticks only recognized as broken 360 controllers? Flying jets well requires a joystick, please understand that DICE. Let all flight axis be bound to generic joystick axis, don't just assume we're all plugging 360 controllers in. The joystick system is so broken, please bring back real joystick support. (See BF2/BF1942)

4. Menu System
DICE, the menu system must be accessible both while dead and preferably out of game. It's asinine to attempt to bind keys WHILE getting shot at.

5. Flashlights
I like the idea of the flashlight as an aggressive "blinding" attachment, but the biggest issue is just how damn bright it is even in bright sunlight (see aboveground Operation Metro). There needs to be more of a distinction between the flashlight's usefulness in low light situations like the subway in Metro compared to situations involving bright, direct sunlight where a flashlight would hardly even be visible.

6. Scope Glint
Great mechanic, but I think the glint should be less bright, you should at least have to look for it. As it stands it's impossible not to see it. In addition, I understand balance vs realism, but why do scopes glint underground in a dark subway tunnel? That should be fixed in my opinion for realism's sake.

7. Mouse Button Binding
This is a fairly simple issue, you can't rebind default mouse buttons and in many cases can't bind any new action to mouse buttons. This is a big issue for PC gaming, DICE.

I appreciate any thoughts or comments and look forward to the game's full release.

Yes it's a different key bind I think.
