With all the shit talking EA threw around, I'm pretty sure they are trying to beat COD on all fronts, otherwise why bother making a single player campaign at all and instead dedicate all their resources into refining multiplayer.

If you were following any of the game coverage up to launch there were several developer interviews stating that multiplayer is the key focus of the game and the campaign would just be "icing on the cake." Given the history of the Battlefield series this should be no surprise.

I haven't looked into it but what is Modern Warfare 3 offering? Any new features, any major improvements?

The biggest thing I think they will be improving with this game is to catering to different typed of players. There will now be a support class in which you can get "point streaks" rather than killstreaks for completing supportive actions (capturing a flag, defusing a bomb, etc). Hopefully that will cut back a bit on the one-man-soldier mentality that many COD players seem to have.

I think its official BF just put the smack down on COD.

Seems the main problems right now have more to do with buggyness of the servers, getting kicked from games or dropped or whatever. I havent been having any problems with it but my friend gets kicked at the end of every second game, then he has to restart the game and rejoin the server. Hopefully this stuff gets sorted out.
It's 2011, this crap should be long figured out. Oh wait, many other games already did figure it out, over a decade ago even.

Well it's $51 on amazon download now. Will buy tonight and hope my mid range gamer (i7 930 with a gtx 480) can serve me well.
I'd say that's still relatively high end. I just picked up a GTX480, and it should preform on par with a 570, which runs BF3 relatively well.

Why yes they have! An optional monthly fee you can play for expanded web browser functionality and for Craptivision map packs.

My only gripe with BF3 so far is the server browser, on one hand I like in game browsers, but this one also works really well for looking at your stats/friends. If they can find a way to implement a que to join servers that are full instead of refreshing I'll be happy. Right now I get errors when filtering/refreshing which is annoying.

A lot of the problems with getting kicked are with Punkbuster, not the BF3, I understand BF3 went with punkbuster, but you can also join non-pb servers if you like. There was a new patch today that was supposed to fix it as well.

That's a mid-range gaming machine? I hope you're being sarcastic.

It's a mid mid-high gaming pc. I consider high end highly overclocked gtx 580 on aftermarket air cooler or water, 2500/2600k clocked to high 4's, ssd game drives or new 600gb raptor game drives.
I have my i7 clocked to 3ghz, got a single first gen OCZ ssd for OS only, and a reference gtx 480 with no overclock. So yeah it's a mid range gamer.

I don't understand the fanboism/hate.

Both are FPS shooters and both offer different things. Neither is perfect and they all have pros/cons.

Personally I enjoy both COD and Battlefield titles. I've spent plenty of time on both MW2 and BC2.

I can't say I'm not enjoying BF3 right now. It's a good game. Sure there is cons, but plenty of pros as well.

It's a f'in game, whatever.

I have no preference for either franchise but I think BF just took the lead in a major way. And it seems COD wont be getting the crown back with MW3 from what Ive heard about it. COD has become too 1 dimensional. They need to put vehicles back in the game and come up with a formula that makes them more then just endless games of team death match.

From what I've read the game dynamics and graphics have been consolized and the much promised superior PC graphics didn't materialize. What a surprise, EA lying and making promises they never intend to keep. Not that I can blame them, even when the critics gave Duke Nukem the worst possible reviews idiots bought the game. At least COD doesn't pretend to be something its not and Acitivision isn't out to become the sleazebag monopoly of the gaming world. I'll stick with Steam for now and leave Origin to those deserving people who demand the lowest common denominator.

I felt the graphics are pretty damn crisp. Not quite as good as the video's, however, I dont have high end gear either. I could probably push it at the expense of framerates. That said, the game is the best look game I have played and it runs silky smooth using the auto detect graphics settings.

I have i5 2500K(stock), GTX 470.

My biggest problem right now is a CD-Key bought from amazon that got fubared and EA was worthless helping me fix the situation last night.

Im sure the BF fanboys will say BF has always put the smack down on COD but to that all I can say is BFBC2 wasnt even worth playing to me, lousy controls and sloppy game play.

But in BF3 they figured out how to do prone properly, unlike their dolphin diving fiasco of the past. And you can now run and look to the side, unlike BC2. Also, Im not sure if its just me being happy with the movement controls and letting that happiness spill over but it seems like the guns and shooting is crisper.

Seems the main problems right now have more to do with buggyness of the servers, getting kicked from games or dropped or whatever. But overall I say job well done Dice.

No idea how you can quantify this. It's only an opinion.

CoD will always win over BF3 in my opinion. BF3 gameplay sucks imo. I tried to get into the BF series but every single one plays the same and I hate it. It's clunky, slow, and full of idiots (not to say that CoD games don't have their fair share of idiots but it usually doesn't affect your teammates like it does in BF3).

Well, BF3 reviews are up, and not to pile on, but do you really need a review for MW3? The gameplay will be pretty similar to the first two, and still won't have dedicated servers for ranked play.

gameplay in BF3 is pretty similar to every other BF3 game so why do you need a review for it?

I don't get this. you bash 1 game for doing something but like another game that does the exact same thing as the game you bashed. fanboy much?

The other thing that's hilarious is people complaining about games costing $60 and they gladly hand over $60 for BF3.

again, fanboy much?

So, let's keep a list:

1. Games that require always online connection for even SP? abhorred by members of this forum.
2. Games that cost $60? Zomg! no deal!
3. Games that don't change? Never going to buy again!

BF3 did all 3 of those but "it's the greatest game evar!11111!!1!1!!"

If it helps my E8400 @ 3.6 and a 9800 GTX+ play it fine on low settings with a few mediums at 1920x1200 so you should be fine.

Your card a 1gb model?

Hard to believe so much has changed from beta to final release.

Had a 2500k oced and a vanilla 9800gtx 512mb oced and best it did was 1440x900 all low

Hardlocked if i went any higher.

Well, I never actually bashed MW3 in my post, but thanks for putting word in my mouth.

A lot has changed between the last installments of BF, from BF2-->BC2-->BF3. If you were too busy getting sniped to notice, hey, not my problem.

I refuse to buy MW3 (and have since MW2), mostly for the lack of dedicated servers. I loved COD4 and WaW, but my interest has since waned.

I certainly prefer BF to COD, and always have, since I first played COD2. If other people like COD better, more power to them, they all have their reasons.

Have you actually played BF3? And you cant say COD will always win because you cant predict the future. I played BFBC2 shortly and thought it was slow and clunky and therefor didnt buy it when it came out. But BF3 brings the crispness of game play almost to the same level as COD and then adds on tons of stuff COD doesnt have. So ya right now BF > COD.

I do need to wait for reviews. I am pretty sure I wont be getting BF3, but if MW3 can impress me on the technical side, I may get it.

It does bring back dedi servers, sure not ranked, but its a step, and they are customizable i hear. I did enjoy mw2 game play to a degree, but the technical issues reeked. No dedis or even basic PC features, hackers, and no admin for the most part. Plus the mm stunk, and lagged.

Mw3 was hinted to possibly have mod support later on, which I am hoping for, and would be a deal maker I believe. at least they havent ruled it out. This is why I will wait for reviews, to see how in effect the game actually works and how the features are.

This is what you said, word for word:
"but do you really need a review for MW3? The gameplay will be pretty similar to the first two"

sounds like bashing to me, especially when you criticize the CoD series for it but expound the virtues of BF3 when it does the same thing.

I played the beta and knew it wasn't for me. It had the same issues I had with the previous BF series games so there's no point in wasting my money.

I got fooled into buying BC2 and I vowed I will never buy another BF series game. If I end up not liking the CoD series any more I won't buy it either. I didn't care for Black Ops but that was Treyarch who always made sub-par CoD games. If there comes a point where I don't like CoD any more I won't move over to BF. That would just be stupid.

You have to UNLOCK flares and missiles for the jets they don't come with them.......

That's what I heard, and that is just lame.

Yes you do but they compensated the fact that not many people might be able to fly every round by making the unlocks for jets really fast. I think I got 3 in my first round.

Good job using a beta to come up with your ingenious conclusions... EA stated it was primarily for making sure their infrastructure was capable of handling the load of launching the game. Metro is not very indicative of most of the game play in the game. But let's not bring logic into this, that wouldn't go along with your agenda.

What specific issues are you referring to?

Honestly, my initial impressions were terrible. I thought the movement was slow, and I couldn't aim or hit anything for the life of me. Then I realized it was because I had such low fps because I didn't have crossfire enabled and the settings were too high. After starting to get respectable frame rates, the differences were night and day. I'd describe the gameplay a mix of BF2, BC2 and COD. The movement is MUCH quicker and weapon feel and effectiveness is a lot closer to COD/CS:S feeling than any previous battlefield game. It's by FAR the best Battlefield game to date when it comes to infantry combat. This game has come a looooong way from BF2 with regards to that.
