This is what you said, word for word:
"but do you really need a review for MW3? The gameplay will be pretty similar to the first two"

sounds like bashing to me, especially when you criticize the CoD series for it but expound the virtues of BF3 when it does the same thing.
Well then, take it how you like.

But if you think there is the same amount of innovation between the two games, I have nothing to say. I'm floored, really.

Your card a 1gb model?

Hard to believe so much has changed from beta to final release.

Had a 2500k oced and a vanilla 9800gtx 512mb oced and best it did was 1440x900 all low

Hardlocked if i went any higher.

512mb model. And there are a few slowdowns here or there but primarily it's smooth. I know it closer to 30fps than 60 fps but it still serves my purpose until I get my new rig.

Good job using a beta to come up with your ingenious conclusions... EA stated it was primarily for making sure their infrastructure was capable of handling the load of launching the game. Metro is not very indicative of most of the game play in the game. But let's not bring logic into this, that wouldn't go along with your agenda.

What specific issues are you referring to?

Honestly, my initial impressions were terrible. I thought the movement was slow, and I couldn't aim or hit anything for the life of me. Then I realized it was because I had such low fps because I didn't have crossfire enabled and the settings were too high. After starting to get respectable frame rates, the differences were night and day. I'd describe the gameplay a mix of BF2, BC2 and COD. The movement is MUCH quicker and weapon feel and effectiveness is a lot closer to COD/CS:S feeling than any previous battlefield game. It's by FAR the best Battlefield game to date when it comes to infantry combat. This game has come a looooong way from BF2 with regards to that.

well buy me a copy and i'll try it out. otherwise the beta is all i'm going to use to base it off of because there's no way i'm spending any more money on a bf game.

I believed people when they said BC2 was good and was different than BF2. It was exactly the same, if not worse.

What are the specific things you didn't like? That, and what kind of hardware are you running?

I would like to get a comment on what I wrote earlier:

So to beat COD they had to become more like it? How many maps in BF3 are really the huge, vehicle-loaded maps that the Battlefield series is known for? I don't have the game yet, but from what I understand there are only 3 maps like that. The rest are smaller and COD-style crap like Op Metro. Even the large map I tried in the beta, Caspian Border, I found to be dull and uninspired. I'll wait for this game to hit $30.

I really would like to know, how many of the maps are the huge kind loaded with all types of vehicles? I won't pay $60 for a game that only has 3 or 4 true Battlefield style maps.

You won't get an answer and I'm sure your question is rhetorical. EA has obviously taken another good PC franchise just like they did with Crysis and turned into another console port. By all accounts its a good game like Crysis 2, but I'm not hearing people brag about how great it is on the PC. Just that it is a good game.

We're too busy playing the game to come on a forum to expound on it's virtues.

Not everyone enjoys Battlefield gameplay, it's slower and more drawn out than the ADHD twitch-fests like Call of Duty. If you don't like BF gameplay I get it. I happen to like both, a lot. I played 175 hours of Modern Warfare 2 and loved that game despite it's many flaws.

BF3, MW3, Skyrim, and later on Mass Effect 3... this is an awesome time to be a gamer.

Yeah, well even the professional reviewers who are getting paid to tell us admit the game doesn't live up the hype EA used. You'd think PC gamers would finally catch on that all these companies are using them to promote console games.

Back in the day there was a great FPS called Tribes2.
You wanted to find a match, you connected to the master server, found a map you wanted to play on, made sure that there was space, and clicked enter.

Whoa there pal. I think you ment Tribes, not Tribes 2.

But yeah, that is how I like it done.

And MW3 will outsell BF3 on console easy. Even though I really, really doubt it will be anywhere near as good (imo). Some people just like the smaller maps, and that gameplay better.

IGN Score 9.0 "Amazing", Press Score 9.5, Player Score 10

http://pc.ign.com/objects/142/14209865.html

Metacritic Score 91% Critic Rating

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/battlefield-3

Gamespy "...it just happens to look better than any game ever created. You see, Frostbite 2.0 is a modern miracle of game engine technology." 100%

etc.

Some random bad ratings from individuals due to fanboy bias (this will happen with MW3 as well of course).

BF3 is far better than MWx on PC. I can't really say the same for console, as I doubt it really translates all that well there. MW on console is a fast, aim-assisted, unsophisticated spamfest. That's great for those who enjoy it, and I fully expect MW3 to outsell BF3 heavily on console. For PC, the exact opposite will happen.

I'm still trying to find anything Battlefield like in BF3. It's almost like they've copied CoD and tossed out what made the BF series great. I haven't touched the MP yet as I'm waiting for some other old clan-mates to get the game but I'm hoping there's at least some BF left in the game.

I'm just hoping we'll be able to "rent" our own servers so we don't have to wade through hordes of prepubescent morons on the official servers. They're the main reason I've avoided almost all MP games since Operation Flashpoint.

Don't bother with him. He does this in every thread. He says BF series has not changed at all yet loves CoD which is literally the exact same game 4 years running with an engine that's 6yrs old. We already know the things that are different from older Battlefields like destructible environments and all the new ways to deal with vehicles and many other things but he doesn't care so just ignore him.

???

not sure if serious..
Exactly. Why even post, DeathReborn?

May as well gtfo and go back to your dumb COD.

BF3 is Battlefield through-and-through, rest assured. There's a few smaller maps this time around with some tighter infantry combat and less focus on vehicles, but I say again: this is definitely Battlefield.

I never said I love CoD. I've even said I didn't like certain games in the series. I've never denied that each game is basically more of the same. Do I like it better than the BF series? Hell yes, but that's not the point I am trying to make in any of my posts.

I'm just pointing out that BF fans seem to overlook that the BF series does the same thing, but through either blind fanboyism or stupidity (or maybe they are 1 in the same?), they don't seem to understand it.

These are my feelings exactly. I played Beta and it was a COD replica and hated it. I'm gonna wait until the game goes on sale again before buying. I hope there are more maps that are BF-like, otherwise EA ruined the series.

If I wanted a COD game, I'd buy MW3. Also the graphics are no where close to what was advertised. Damn you EA.

Maybe I got a deal, but I only paid $50 for my copy of the PC game from Amazon.

Oh, and if anybody is getting the "Kicked by Admin" issues, update your punk buster.

Just a couple of things, and first my bias - I own all of the COD games for my 360. I really liked the SP, but never enjoyed the MP much at all. I've owned all of the BF games except 2142 and BFBC, all on PC except BFBC2 and BF1943, and I greatly prefer BF MP over the years, even with the imabalances, etc etc. I loved BF1942, DC, BFV, and BF1943. I am not that great at or in love with the more modern setting games.

That said:

1) I am very curious how well this engine will scale. How will it look and play 2-3 CPU/GPU generations from now? I think DICE/EA is shooting for it to have that level of longevity. Have they scaled the game back for release and can patch in more detail as the hardware catches up? I think it's not arguable that they've already made one such decision with PC voicechat.

2) I dont worry much about minor release day glitches. The game has a couple, and I am sure the netcode could be cleaned up even more. Then there's the PB thing. Those are fixable. It's not crap right now and it plays very well as it is.

3) Game feels a little skittish right now. Lower grade weapons, unfamiliarity with maps, and a lack of teamplay. Those things will improve with unlocks and familiarity. I expect teamplay to really improve in the next 6-9 mos.

4) I agree some on the vehicles comments. Old BF there were a plethora of vehicles with fast respawns on most every map. I loved loved loved Wake Island for that reason.

5) BRING BACK IN GAME MUSIC like Battlefield Vietnam had. I guess it was a little overdone, but man do I miss playing Flight of the valkyries as I rolled into an opposing cap point on a VC scooter.

6) I miss the command rose. I realize it's not really necessary with voicechat, but we don't have that. Implement one or the other.

All in all, this is a great game though. Witha few realtively simple fixes, it'll be perfect. COD does one type of gameplay, extraordinarily well, but that's not me. I do not like deathmatch - I like Conquest the most followed by Rush, but mostly, I love the added dimension of vehicles and improvising with them as much as possible to obtain objectives, rather than chasing the highest killcount or K: D ratio. So for me, this game is bliss.

I am really liking BF3 but there are a few issues that really bother me.

First off, no voice comm is inexcusable for a squad based game. There is currently no order to this game. I never see orders on where to go or any kind of tight squad team work. Most of the time if i run out of ammo I just kill myself because I cant get a resupply!!

Second, I really miss the commander dynamic. Being able to call in arty, jeeps or supplies was really nice. Also, being able to commando into the enemy base and blow up their arty or radar was even better!

Basically I like playing BF3 but after a while it just makes me miss BF2. It just feels like a hybrid of BC2 and BF2.

Sounds like the PC version is having a lot less problems than the Console version. Console version is having so many problems. :|

You have to UNLOCK flares and missiles for the jets they don't come with them.......

That's what I heard, and that is just lame.

and you have to unlock sights and gadgets in COD? whats the difference..
yuo dont get to start with everything.. you gotta earn it..
it takes all of about 2 hours to unlock flares and heatseakers in planes..

I did it last night.. not a big deal at all.

I find shooting unlocks to be far harder...
I think in 8 hours of play I havent even topped 100 total kills..

I measure quality of a military shooter by the amount of dust generated when you shoot at a wall. The more dust the better.

I'd imagine the perfect shooter to be one where I can shoot a wall with a machine gun, and it'll kick up a huge cloud of dust.

That would be awesome.
