BF4 1080p GPU

I rolled with an R9 280X for the past month and realized I started to miss the nVidia brand. Shadowplay for one is just amazing and and Mantle is a letdown for this particular card ( minus 1-2 fps depending on the map...). I can sell it with profit and was searching for my next card.

I don't necessarly want BF4 maxed, high settings are enough for me (1080p). I want a solid 60 fps and was wondering if I should go with a GTX 760 Ti or a 770.

I don't want to pay more than 375 CAD (before shipping).

Also, which brand/model would be the best?

I wouldn't give up on Mantle just yet, you know. It's essentially still in beta and they have a lot of optimizations yet to do.

Or you can keep the 280X and pick up Mirillis Action and record with AMD APP h264 codec, pretty much the same performance as Shadowplay, merely ~1-3fps loss.

GTX 770 sounds like the perfect card for you. Do you plan on staying at 1080p for the life of the card?

Yeah 1080p for the next 3 years or so. Maybe a second monitor for the battlescreen but nothing more.

The 770 is slightly faster than your card. Not sure it's worth the hassle unless you turn a huge profit by selling your card to a miner.

There is no 760 Ti available at retail by the way, in the US at least. That's an OEM card, and it's identical to the 670. It would be slower than what you have right now.

A GTX 760 or even an R9 270X will average 60fps at BF4/High/1080p. Given that you want to go Nividia, the 760 is a great choice, although keep in mind that the 770 is about 20-25% faster.

770 is a good card, and a great overclocker depending on the model.

Personally I would go with the 770, but if you find a good deal on the 760 it might be worth it.

For nvidia.... eVGA seems to be the best brand.

You can get 60 fps with either card, but with the 760 you're probably gonna have to step down to high settings.

$30 will give you twice the VRAM. However, a GTX 760 isn't really capable of running resolutions higher than 1080p so the extra VRAM is pretty much worthless.

AMD has already stated several times that there is zero optimizations for GCN 1.0 cards and performance is not what it will be later on.

Personally I think cross grading is a huge waste of money. But, it is your money.

I am making some money with my R9 280X and buying a less expensive card so I don't waste money at all.

And no I don't plan to SLI the card. If I do, would it make that much of a difference to have only 2 GB?

True, 280X's do have inflated prices right now.

For today, 2GB is fine for 1080P in every case except for BF4, which can consume over 2GB at 1080P with every single setting enabled.

For the future, hard to say how long 2GB will last. But I know the price jump to 4GB is a bit much for 770's. But if you really plan on keeping the card for 3 years, 2GB will be on the short side by then. But you can always lower settings.

If you are not interested in keeping the 280x or going SLI, I would consider a solid single card, such as the 780 if you can afford it after selling.

In this case, you might as well shell out an extra $30 if you plan on keeping the card for more than 2-3 years. It's not a big difference in price. But, as already mentioned, it is hard to tell where 1080p will be 2-3 years from now as far as VRAM consumption goes. Since BF4 can already use more than 2GB, I'd say 3GB will soon become the standard. If you do plan to SLI, then yes, it will make a difference and who knows, SLI might be a more viable and attractive option for you in the future.

I still don't understand the reason why you would want to downgrade from a 280x to a 760. It's not worth the hassle imo. Unless you can pocket at least $100 in the process... Not saying it's impossible, but it would be a hassle for me, that's for sure.

I'd go with the 760 4GB to be on the safe side, besides it's only a lousy $30 more.

I have a 760 (2GB version) and a 280X, the 280X is definitely above the 760. Not sure what the motive for downgrading is.

The 760 will do that just fine for you if that is all the money you want to spend.

I have 760 SLI, but running single card I still get 45-70 fps on Ultra in 64 player MP.
