One of the *best* combat systems I"ve played in recent years has been the medieval combat in War of the Roses. I *love* this combat system, because unlike most sword/shield/arrow gameplay...there's actually some skill involved in parrying attacks.

And it is MP only. haha.

Otherwise, most medieval games with swords are just like playing an excel spreadsheet.

FPS games aren't meant to be singleplayer.
If you want immersion play Deus Ex or Fallout 3, where the FPS is just a small part of the experience.

It doesn't have to be mutually exclusive, making a good SP game doesn't imply that MP has to suck or the other way around. Yet games with both good SP & MP are hard to come by.

Should DICE concede and not bother with singleplayer? If they take that route, BF might become a F2P or a monthly subscription grinder MMO. On the other hand, it's clear there is a huge disparity between their SP & MP despite the obvious effort to make a good SP mode.

No it doesn't have to be mutually exclusive, but for the majority of Battlefield's history, it has been all about multiplayer. It wasn't even until Bad Company where they actually even had a story. It used to be bots on multiplayer maps.

Battlefield has always been about the multiplayer. In a straight up FPS game, nothing beats the fun of human competition. I think you guys that are complaining about SP in BF series are picking the wrong game.

I disagree. Nothing beats being told an interactive story. Human competition is pointless.

Human competition is great and unrivaled. But it's also completely unpredictable.

You might log in and have a great experience with mature adults with lots of skill who really challenge you.
Or you might log in and have your night ruined by 14 year olds screaming expletives, team-killers shooting you in the back, or angry virgin neck beards chastising anyone who hasn't honed their skill 14 hours a day between furiously masturbating.

Sorry, but SP always will have a place, because there are those of us who don't have unlimited time to play games, and when we do, we'd rather not take the risk that one of the 2 nights we have free to game for an hour is going to be ruined by one of the all-too-common aforementioned assholes.

I was being hyperbolic. I simply prefer to be told an interactive story. I've played games online on the past, Unreal Tournament and World at War Zombies mostly, as well as previously being a ranked Homeworld player, but I just didn't find the experience of playing against other people as satisfying as a storyline.

Isn't that the fun part? I guess you have different idea of fun. Is that on the console? At least for BF PC, I don't usually hear swearing on the chat. If they do, you can mute or go find them and knife them a few times. They usually rage quit afterwards.

And for the record, Bad Company 2 had the best SP of the BF games(also for the record, I never finished BF3 because I couldn't get it to run right). Maybe they should just dedicate the Bad Company sub-series to SP and actually make BF the online-only component.

I could not agree with this more. BFBC2 has the best single player campaign of any game I've ever played. I am still amazed at how well the developed the characters. After only a few hours, I felt strongly connected to Haggard, Sweetwater, and Sarge. At the start of the "No One Gets Left Behind" I was seriously pissed off at the events of the game. No game has generated that level of emotion in me.

It's unfortunate DICE has focused on MP recently. I guess that's where the money is.
