I've had a BFG geforce 6600 GT OC running in this box for 2½+ years and I'm unaware of any heat issues. It's got the stock HSF and I was completely taken aback to find that I could NOT hear the fan above the other noise from the PC, and all the components are chosen for their quietness. The card I replaced had a Zalman heatsink and ran fanless, so I anticipated major noise problems and was investigating options, but none were necessary. Also, the fan hasn't died, and that makes it the longest lasting BFG supplied video card fan I've ever had, and I've had several.

I bought it for the dual DVI output.

I gotta Apollo 128mb 6800 AGP sitting in a box... keep meaning to sell it.
Pretty sure a 6800 is faster than a 6600GT....

I uaws RivaTuner to OC unlock the pipes and OC it a bunch..... also used RivaTuner to lower fan speed to %25 when doing windows stuff...and something like 90-100% when playing 3d games. Thing was rock stable....

but TD has scared me so much in the past with all the horror stories. I know their Canukia branch was supposedly better....

but how is TD these days?

edit:

great price, but after reading reseller ratings....gahh that killed it. Just too scared of not getting rebates and god knows what else

As Blain pointed out this is a PureVideo card and supports everything except Inverse Telecine and Bad Edit Correction in hardware on the card making it absolutely perfect for turning that older AGP system into an HTPC. This card will do 854X480 without any additional drivers like Powerstrip so it can be bitmapped to the input of most widescreen projectors. As Blain also pointed out that it run fairly low power so it would be good in a shuttle or small box. I use this card on my HTPC and have been very pleased.

You're not the only one. I was happy with it up until then, but then I was very unhappy with it.

It looks like this rebate is back until at least the 31st of May. I'm a bit worried about the Onrebate.com rebate though. I was looking through http://www.resellerratings.com . The people there seem to really hate on TigerDirect and there were a few threads about Onrebate.com being near scandalous. Of course, the population that will be visiting Reseller Ratings is more likely to be dissatisfied customers, but this certainly spooks me and is making me hold back. Has anyone here actually had any good experiences with Onrebate?

I have done 3 or 4 rebates with Onrebate. I always did the expedited service for a fee. I would rather get mine quicker than later. One came in 12 days after I mailed it in. I chose to have them put it in my Paypal account. Not every rebate from Onrebate is eligible for the expedited service.

I have one of these - it's probably three years old now. On one hand, I'm glad it's still a decent video card. On the other, it's a little disappointing that we've had so little improvement in three years. Heard the new $100 nVidia 8xxxx part (forgot what it was called) is barely better than this.

For reference, Newegg has an Nvidia Geforce 6800XT 256MB 8x AGP for $61.99 after a $15 rebate and also the Radeon X1650 256MB 8x AGP for $74.99 after a $15 rebate. After factoring in shipping, the BFG doesn't seem like a particularly special deal anymore.

The "ZOGIS ZO68XT-DAGP GeForce 6800XT 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 8X Video Card - Retail" you are referring to is a joke- its some crap DDR2 version 6800XT with crappy 128bit memory interface (real 6800XT are 256bit GDDR3)- so it is definitely slower than this thread's 6600GT with 1050 MHz GDDR3.
The " SAPPHIRE 100197L Radeon X1650 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail" is also a cheesey DDR2 card. Just another example of a video card underpowered by cheap DDR2 RAM. But at least it may have some extra "oomph" with 12pixel pipelines, but probably only will beat the 6600GT in TES : OBlivion at sub 1024 res ...
oh yeah- and BFG is lifetime warranty...
sapphire is 2yr and they charge $15 "processing fees"
Zogis- lol- their website doesnt even come up properly- good luck withTHAT! lol

ps- deal is cooling down- now up to $59 AR

Thanks, looks like it's out of stock. I got it from Frys on the last rebate cycle, but it was around $129 AR, this is a killer deal if you can get it.
