This is better then a 9800XT... not sure why anyone would want to buy a 9800 anything.. especially when they cost almsot as much as this 6800.

As for modding... NO. You can not add the 4 pipeplines on any 6800 to make it a GT. Right now, they physically aren't there. It's not like they are disabled and a bios flash will turn them on. Too bad though.

the x800 pro's with VIVO are a prime example. If you get an x800 pro without VIVO the card has 12 pipes.. that's it. The rest are cut off. An x800 pro with VIVO actually has all 16 pipes that an x800XT has. So a quick bios flash and you are the proud owner of an x800xt after buying an x800 pro.

The nvidia products that I know of you can't do this with.

For the current price.. his is a good deal though. The normal 6800 beats the pants of a 9800XT at stock speeds and it can even be overclocked for even more performance. It's a no brainer if you have an older card, like a geforce 4/3/2, or 9200, or older card. Especially if you are on a budget.

WRONG. I know that the 6800 NU used to just be downgraded 6800 GT cores. You still couldn't just do a BIOS flash to get them working correctly. Supposedly the next version of RivaTuner can turn them on though. They are supposed to actually be shipping them with real 6800 NU cores so I'm not sure if you can get one that you can mod.

Actually Rivatuner is working on enabling the extra disabled vertex pipeline(s) which some geforce 6800NU only have 4-5 compared to the 6 on GT/ULTRA models. The extra 4 pixel processors (12 vs 16) are simply not there in the 6800NU to be enabled in any manner as far as I have read.

HAHAHA, A 6800NU does not whip a 9800XT hands down. It does slightly better than a 9800Pro. Why do you think the prices are dropping so fast. Last week people were paying over MSRP to get there hands on these now they are being sold for 16% under retail. And the old stock of 9800Pro's are still selling strong at $199 with no extra software.

I have benched them all but the 6800 Ultra. The 9800Pro All in Wonder at $179 on outpost website is still the deal to beat.

Until you can actually bench them all yourself you have no validity in your statement.

Go redo your tests. The nu beats the living snot out of a 9800 anything, including an XT.

You've GOT to be kidding, the 6800 is MUCH faster than the 9800pro, especially on newer games at high resolutions.

Remember also that the BFG 6800 is already overclocked so its faster than the standard 6800.

I would also like to echo the sentiments here that any 6800 will significantly outdo any 9800 unless you don't have enough CPU. I have an Athlon XP2500 (1.8 GHz), and when I first installed the card and started benching it, it did seem fast, but not as fast as I was hoping. Once I made the jump up to 2.2 GHz the card really started impressing me. Then I turned on 4x FSAA and the card barely flinched. And by barely flinched, I mean, it only lost a couple framerates! I just bought this card at Best Buy and can say this card is definately worth $250, heck I thought it was worth $300.
