BFG 6800GT and DVI **EXPOSED**

Ok, I just got home from work and my card did arrive today. Haven't opened it yet but I see the good news that 1600x1200 resolution is available. I just checked BFG website and their tech support FAQ. The FAQ has been corrected and now says 1600x1200 as the maximum DVI res. Yesterday, the tech support FAQ stated 1280x1024 as the maximum DVI res.

It's good to know these are Nvidia reference cards. I'll post later with my impressions on my dual monitors.

Ok, I've installed the card. The card is same size as my BFG FX5900 except it's single slot card. Looks really cool. No problem with the driver installation. 1600x1200 DVI works perfectly with my Dell 2001FP. I can also see the computer startup and BIOS screen again! Yay!

No problem with running dual screen with my Dell 2001FP and Sony G520P. Both are running 1600x1200. Everything is crisp and clear. 2D analog looks to be excellent. No problem with text at 1600x1200 on my Sony CRT. Both screens look excellent and crisp. Nvidia Nview makes dual screen so much enjoyable.

I only played couple of games so far but everything is butter smooth. I can't believe how great everything looks. I set the AA at 4x and AF at 16x. I don't know if it's the higher AA and AF settings or what but all games look much better than my previous BFG FX5900. I played MVP Baseball 2004, Winning Eleven 7, and NFS Underground.

I haven't overclocked yet or tested with more demanding games. The card seems to run cool at 52 C. My reported case temp has dropped 2 C with 6800GT.

I need to spend more time with this card but so far I'm very pleased.

Anyway, how's the card otherwise? Do most games allow for 12x7, or are you forced to play them at a windowed 10x7?

I don't think the card is loud at all. About same as my BFG FX5900. I don't know. I can't hear it over my loud stock NF7-S Northbridge fan. Just played some NHL 2004 and Call of Duty at 1600x1200 4aa/16af. I was getting like 140fps in NHL. Set the textures in COD to Extra High. First time doing that since this card has 256mb ram. Off to try Tiger Woods 2004.

EDIT: Just tried out Tiger Woods 2004. Maxed out the graphics setting completely at 1600x1200 4xaa/16af and was getting 50-120fps constantly. Most of the time it was in the 70-80s range. Everything just looks so good and is butter smooth. This is by far the best videocard upgrade ever for me. Being able to run everything I've at 1600x1200 with 4aa/16af without worry is just sweet!

I've tested the overclock ability of this BFG 6800 GT. The highest overclock I can achieve is 444 core and 1.04 memory. But I've back it down to 435 core and 1.03 memory as I feel comfortable running there. Seems I got a good core but crappy memory. The card runs at 54 C at these settings. My CPU is the major bottleneck now. I'm only running my Tbred at 2.2 ghz now that I added 2 more sticks of ram. I hope my A64 3200+ and motherboard gets delivered soon.

Yeah standard is 1.0 Ghz. I got crappy memory. But my core is pretty good. Standard 6800GT core is 350 mhz although BFG comes overclocked at 370. 94 mhz or 27% overclock on the core is very good IMO. Doesn't core speed play bigger role in these cards anyways?

But that is a real rip off on BFG's part. I can't really say anything because the only reason why I got a eVGA was because best buy was out of stock on the BFG 6800GT's.

Everything works fine on BFG 6800GT DVI. All of this was false alarm.

In my experience with my XT, core speed is more important until you enable AA, when memory speed becomes more important. You'll probably get great results without AA (or maybe even with 2x AA), but with 4x I don't think you'll get Ultra speeds.

I had a run-in with him not too long after he joined, and he has a serious chip on his shoulder. His posting style very much reflects that of the members of [ H ] forums. I don't go there, as I find it too confrontational.. He is very familiar with the A64 mobiles and has helped quite a few members in that area though, so I think he's an asset to the community, he just needs to enhance his calm :light:
