I was in fry's the other day, and the card they had there (which has the same SKU as the one from outpost.com) uses the dual-fan heatsink... mine will also be in tomorrow, and I'll update as well.

I've heard the reference cooler actually works better by 5C~8C difference. The dual fan cooler is more for looks, as both fans are blue led. I have the dual cooler on my FX5900 and it does really well, but I can't say other than what I've heard for the 6800 series.

Yeah, got mine today. Custom cooler I was hoping for the reference design, but ohh well. Now I can finally put that ASUS K8V Deluxe + AMD 64 3200+ system together.

how many PCI slots does the reference cooler take up?

It takes up 1 slot and mine from BB overclocks to 390/768 with the BFG custom cooler. It idles at around 50C and under load is around 60C. So I don't think it runs that hot. I do wish the memory would do better, but this is what coolbits and rivatuner tell me the max are. Does heat effect the ram overclocking much?

Heat is the ultimate enemy of overclocking... So yeah, it affects it quite a bit

Wow, that's all it OC's to? I got mine from the original BB price mistake, and I've gotten it to OC stable at over the 6800 Ultra OC speeds of 425/1100 with just the original reference HS/Fan.

I'd suggest playing around with it, I think you should have much more headroom than that.

From what I've heard the reference cooler seems to cool 5-10C better than the BFG custom cooler, not a major difference, but on the positive side I believe it is quieter than the reference cooler.
