Chumbo does this when they get too many orders in to stop there from being more.

Serious question:

Would you get this for $399, or rather a ATI X850XT Platinum for $50 more ?

You can't even find a X800XT PE for that, if you can find one at all.

The X850XT has a MSRP of $550.

For $450 the best you can do is a Pro VIVO.

HAHA....i laugh at you...i will not tell you where i see this card for this price....but i can tell you there are PLENTY of X850XT Platinum listed from $449 on ! (not in stock, tho, but LISTED with price and with an ETA of either Dec 31st or January 1)

And, yes. they're sold at good stores (resellerratings is your friend) for under $100 MSRP.

And yeah, i am not talking about the X800XT...i even doubt we will ever see those again btw. Unintersting anyway since the X850XT PE is better

I still think the X850XTPE for $450 is a better deal than a 6800GT for $400 !!

Aren't we cool, hiding where they are listed for that price. Unfortunately either that site is wrong and will make the correction and cancel everyone's order, or they will never end up getting the card. The MSRP is $550 and until there are a lot of the cards availabile, you will be hardpressed to find them for anywhere near that price, just like what happened with the 6800GT and Ultra. I would rather pay $400.00 for a card that is in stock and available, opposed to one that is possible vaporware and will never show, a la the X800XT PE.

as said..its not only ONE retailer selling this card aty WAY below MSRP.
If you would make just a BIT effort, and not even anything special, look around using the usual search-sites etc. you would see for yourself.

Also..if i were to order from a good retailer (resellerrating: 9.47 (!) with hundreds of votes)..i could pre-order now for $455 with $6 shipping. RIGHT NOW. And since i assume this seller is reliable and trusted (see resellerratings) i have no reason to believe that there is a scam involved or anything.

Also..i see the whole point of the X850XT is the better availibility - but then i agree, we will NOT know whether ATI keeps the promise and the cards will be in stock beginning of January - but then on the other hand you would have to prove me the opposite.

You are right, if it were only ONE seller selling the card for $449 and all others for MSP i'd be suspicious - but as said its not the case.

I've found the one of the sellers flexy is talking about, and yes they are reputable - I've ordered several times from them.

*However*, they are also known for often misprinting prices. This is obviously one of them. One might be inclined to do a pre-order and see if they honor the price even though it is a mistake. Newegg had a similar incident a while back where they listed an X800XT Platinum Ed for $450. A handful of people took advantage and were rewarded thanks to someone's incompetence. Immediately after realizing the error, they raised the price to $650.

If I can pick up a X850XT PE for $450, would I do it? Of course.

I don't think these things are going to materialize until February/March, but we'll see soon enough whether ATI is full of $h1t or not.

**edit**

I found three more, one for $465, $485, and $500, all low men on the totem pole.

There's one listing $489 - looks like it has a so-so reputation. After looking some more, I found at least 8 places that are taking pre-orders at < $500. Atacom is asking $1500!

OK, so the question I ask is why would these outfits be selling $100 below MSRP, in some cases below the price of a crappy X800 Pro, especially when the more well-known retailers are doing $650 and up?

The only one I would trust is the 1st one - the others aren't worth a lick. The arrival dates are fuzzy at best... some say Jan 1, some say Jan 31, and some say Feb - Mar.
