Terrific deal for that price without the hassle of waiting for rebates, and you can return it to the B&M store within 30 days if you're not happy with it and doesn't have to pay restocking fee - even if the package is opened. Well, 30 days minus the 14 or so days that they will ship this to you, but you'll get a couple of weeks to try it out at least.

Great price, I wonder if this is the rumored inventory dump before the new core refresh parts start hitting shelves? Great time to snag a deal, the 640 meg 8800 GTS is a steal at this price.

I wasn't even in the market for a new vid card but I still bought one because it is a great deal, even with tax. Like everyone has said, if I change my mind (or the wife pummels me) I can return it.

I currently have an ATI 1900XT...will I see a significant difference (paired with AMD 4600X2) ?

It'll be a generational difference. Small at best. Probably moreso in memory intensive programs like WoW or Bf or similar. But less if you have a 512 mb model 1900xt.

Also obviously you'll have DX10 support..

In for one, but do we have any indication what quantity they have, or is it a possibility that some of the later orders will not be processed ? This deal has been posted on various deal sites so I do hope BB has plenty of them available on the shipping dates. Otherwise its back to waiting for a hot deal on the final piece of my new rig puzzle.

we'll know in about a week or so when cancellations come in that they can't fullfill orders. Other than that, as long as I can find a good deal between now and when Team Fortress 2, ET:Quake comes out. I'll be a - ok.

316.00 shipped before GC
Scheduled for Ground delivery
Estimated Arrival: 7/5-7/18/2007

Finally bit the bullet. 409 at the egg right now, so it's nearly a bill cheaper. Plus I had a GC for BB so that sealed the deal.

Can't wait to see how this runs compared to my old 6800GS AGP HAH.

Might as well get in on this before they start canceling orders.. July 5th sounds neat, but I sure wish they had these in store. With the BB right down the street I could pick it up in 5 minutes.

If they cancel on me I'll probably just wait until Mid July anyways. lots of stuff happens at beginning of q3.

im interested but have two questions. if someone could please help me out.

i have a dell dimension 8400 case would i have issues fitting this card in a standard dell case?

second, im running a P4 3.2 ghz with 1gb of ram. would adding this card allow me to play newer games at 1920x1080 resolution? like maybe c&c and a few other fps games? if adding a top of the line card will not allow an older system to play these games then its not even worth purchasing till i upgrade my whole rig.

thanks!

depending on what your current vid card is, not sure what to tell you. I would say it would definitely allow you to play these games and if anything, I think it would help with the visual quality of the games w/ full AA and such. Although, if you're talking some of the new FPS that will be out in the next few months I think you'll be more cpu limited (and when I say that, in the sense that possibly your frame rates will not top out - i hear enemy territory had a soft cap at 60fps)

and get more RAM! while it's cheap

BFG is one of the best brands. They've been known for their GREAT customer service and lifetime (true) warranty.

Last year, I transplanted my 6800OC (over 3 years old) into a new system. Started getting artifacting, then crashes. Took everything apart and noticed that the fan had cracked down the middle and was barely spinning.

Read the warranty and saw "Lifetime on the card and 3 years (I think) on parts and labor". I was a little nervous. Called, and they said "No problem, we'll have a new card right out to you". They had it shipped within a few days.

VERY impressed!

I go out of my way to throw them more business!

This card takes two slots. I am not sure where 8400's PCI-E slot is located, so make sure there is a free slot "above" it (to the left looking from behind, if the PC is laid flat horizontally). I would, of course spend another $30 on 1GB of RAM (assuming you have 2 x 512MB now), but the CPU should not be an issue. One thing that might be an issue is the power supply.

PM bamacre, he might know more about 8400's.

thanks for all the suggestions! i guess my real question was are current games CPU limited? or gpu limited. I would be running the games at higher than 1600x1200 resolution. and it may come to the point where my system simply wont have a fast enough CPU to drive the card.

Is there must benefit of this card over an ati 1800xt @ 1600x1200 ? Also how does it compare to the ati 2900 or the tba 8900 ? I was thinking that when the 8900 came out the 8800gtx would drop to $250 but maybe i should settle for the gts @ 325 ?

Here is my take on BB as of late.

I have heard about BB misleading customers in store with the internal website of inflated prices. Bad stuff.

I ordered the WD Mybook 500GB external HDD when it was backordered, and it shipped within 6 days. Good Stuff.

I ordered a bunch of DVD sets from the Fox sale a week ago, and my order came up light with season 2 of "24" missing and one of the discs in the Firefly box set missing (package was shrinkwrapped shut, but a little beaten.) Bad stuff.

Two 7 minute phone calls with reps speaking clear English and 18 hours later I have tracking numbers for replacements on the way. Good Stuff.

In the end I would purchase from BB again, but I am pretty wary. Sending Grandma in there with a credit card alone is just cruel, but if you know what you are looking for, its not too bad. Every major company has cancelled orders due to "pricing errors" in the past 24 months, see Dell for the latest (who I also buy from). Duping customers and taking their personal infor is bad news though

Back to the topic at hand, you guys are killing me with all these deals lately. I need to get out of the sandbox here so I can finally start to pull the trigger on some deals. I have 2.5 months left, so I have to fight the temptation and hold off to see how prices change between now and then. Not easy though!

Have a good one people.

-Redfoot.

Run a pair of these in SLI and then you'll be CPU limited.

Are you kidding me?

I bought x2 BFG 6800GTs back in the day in hopes of building an SLI system. After weeks of talking to tech support (don't even get me started on how much time I spent on hold) the cards still did not work in SLI mode. I was told to RMA both cards and ship them in the same package.

A few days later BFG has the odacity to send me only x1 6800GT back :|

So I call them and they accuse me of only sending one card. They basically called me a liar and refused to send me my second card back! I had to actually tell them the weight on my shipping receipt before they would believe me.

Even after all that, the new cards still wouldn't work in SLI mode.

...and that is why I will never buy a BFG product again

Amen to that. BB can be a great place to shop, if you already know what you are buying and for how much when you walk in. It's pretty much otherwise overpriced.

But then if I really think about all of the places that I shop, they are almost all like that.

As a rule of thumb, know what you are buying and how much you can get it for everywhere else... Before you even leave the house.

I got another GC in the mail from my sister (belated bday present)

I called up BB and asked to apply the new GC. They said i'd have to cancel and reorder. Simple enough. They told me the GC may take 24 hours to credit me. It only took an hour or so. I reordered:

Product Total: $316.00
Shipping & Handling: FREE
Why am I charged tax? Tax: $0.00
Subtotal: $316.00
Gift Cards: -$230.03
Order Total (charged to credit card):
$85.97

Now I'm really happy

Especially considering IMO unless it's a steal of a deal like this, nothing else at BB is worth spending money on.

Can't wait to finally round out this new system. The onboard 6100-405 gfx while better than I expected still only pump out 30-50 fps in cs:s

My issue is NOT with BB. My issue is with BB.COM. One huge thing to remember for all these Bestbuy.com sales is that there are NO exchanges. If you get a card that goes DEFECTIVE outside of the sale price range but before the 30 day "return" policy expires, you are in for a hassle. If you talk to manager at a Best Buy store and stay calm AND get a decent manager that knows how to provide customer service, you may well get your item (in this case video card) replaced. Then again you may not.

This happened to me with a Nintendo DS that came with a free game from Best Buy.com. I bought the DS on Saturday on the way home from NY but did not open it and play with it until Monday. The sale was over and the DS had a cluster of dead pixels in the center of the screen. The ONLY way that Best buy.com would fix the item for me was a complete return and repurchase (IE no free game since sale was over) or just a refund and walk away from the deal totally. I did get resolution but it took an hour. The store manager took 'pity' on me and gave me a DS and free game out of his stock by doing a manual override and signing this special paperwork. It was NOT an enjoyable experience nor was it worth the extra hassle. I spent long times on hold trying to call Best Buy.com from within the Best Buy store. I talked to 3 different Best Buy store employees, repeating my store, before getting to the store manager. If I remember correctly the ordeal took about an hour and a half. I'm not doing that again.

I agree all this is low probability. What are the chances that you will get your card and it will die outside the sale and before the 30 days is up? Probably low. I present this information to you only to realize the full extent of what "no exchanges" means. I didn't fully understand that clause until I had the above experience. I am not saying "don't buy this card." I am simply giving information to you folks to realize that these Best Buy.com sales have hidden "gotchas" and for me this is a big one and I will not purchase from Best Buy.com any longer. I do purchase from Best Buy something every week or every 2 weeks.

Also I will prepare myself for the onslaught of abusive comments that is sure to follow....Best Buy.com does employ viral marketing agents who will try to water down and confuse my story with all sorts of mumbo jumbo. I do not plan to engage in those people when they start coming out of the woodwork and attacking me as before. Take what I tell you above to heart, and if anyone jumps in here and starts personally insulting me for relating this story, which the mods on this forum will completely ignore, I am not going to respond.

I relay my story and my information because it is important information for you to have and to weigh your purchasing decisions. That is what this community is about.
