BFG 8800GT died, or is it?

So i was playing FarCry2 and all of a sudden there was no video output. I removed the card, reseatted it and got video back for about 15 mins, then lost video signal again.

I repalced it with an old 7300GT, and got the rig temporary running for now.

Is this a common problem for a dead video card?

Might you have another machine to try this card in? If the problem follows the card it might be time for an RMA.

Also are you using any power adapters for the card or is the power connector coming directly from the PSU? I have run into situations before where an adapter is actually causing the card to loose video when it gets moved.

I tried it on an old dell box using the pci-x adapter, same problem. ill try it on my brother's rig later when i can, but as of now im pretty sure the card is dead meat. Also, im running an Accelero cooler on it so BFG's lifetime warranty is history.

The power connector is running directly from PSU. Im just gonna use this old card for now until BF, hopefully something nice will surface, like a GTX 260 for under a buck fifty or something.

Not a buck fifty, but $195 after rebate plus $1.99 shipping will get you a BFG GTX 260 from Tiger Direct. That's the cheapest GTX 260 you can buy which has a lifetime warranty.

D'oh! I didn't know about that one because the rebate is not listed on Newegg's site. Wonder why they pulled it?
