Back to the original post, I had the same thing happen to me. Was playing along in Crysis and I heard pop, thwap, then whap, whap, whap, whap.... as the sticker on the fan came off then got sucked into the fan right away. Had to use a paper clip bent into a hook to pull the sticker out of the fan.

I got lucky(?) -- I found my "OC" sticker laying in the bottom of my case yesterday.

Ntunes.. and sticker going through the video card fan.

Does anybody see the missing link here?

Increasing speed of the fan = more air suck = sticker sucked in.
Originally at 29% I think.

Sorry - it should not come off at ANY speed.

Agreed. I'm not really sure what the deal is with all the stupid stickers on these cards anyway. I wish someone would just sell me a plain looking NVIDIA OEM card, and just charge me less.

What the hell is EVGA thinking with all this mess anyway?

What's wrong with this?

I think the OEM one looks better too :Q

a round, inch-diameter sticker with a large "OC" in the BFG font on it and "overlocked" printed under it got sucked into the fan.

So the FCC line of "...harmful interference..." stands true- it didn't die, there was no fire, and you were still able to monkey around with it w/ ntune!

yup, same thing just happened to our BFG 8800 GT OC 512. The OC sticker caught in the fan, although I don't remember ever seeing the OC on the fan to start with.

anyway, we didn't see the sticker in the fan the first time, so we just shook the card and a 1cmx1cm black slip of stiff plastic fell out.

we assumed that was what had stopped the fan and put the card back in. next day the fan stopped again, thats when we found the sticker. anything else we should watch for? I don't want to cook this thing too many more times.

See, this is just one more advantage with the ECS Accelero S1 equipped 8800GT. The fans are optional, external, and don't have stickers.

BTW, flash point of paper is as pointed out 451F. By the time your video card heatsink gets that hot other things are probably on fire anyway.

Not to mention if there would be a direct fault in the fan (commutatorless) the driver on the videocard would squelch its output. Even failing that, the familiar burning smell would come long before any flames. Fire hazard? Remote chance. Chance of malfunction in use? Absolutely.

Manufacturers have gotten out of hand with all this fancy artwork on video cards. Like I really want to see some anorexic woman with inflated breasts donning a sword on a piece of hardware. (where is the puke icon)

My 3870x2 came from AMD with only an ATi sticker on the fan hub. No other artwork and is very professional looking IMO. That's the way it should be. If you want to see that tacky kid's stuff, pop in your fav anime DVD and go chow!

The same thing happened to my BFG 8800GT. My card was overheating and I saw that the fan was not spinning, sure enough the sticker was stuck inside the fan chamber. Pulled it out and everything works again. Only bad thing is the sticker broke one of the fan fins which is no big deal since I will be installing a zalman VF900 cooler on my 8800gt.

we need more emoticons

i seriously doubt a *tiny* sticker even catching fire could ignite ANYTHING ELSE in a case unless you have serious dust bunnies
