For those who are still trying to find an 8800GT -- try Best Buy. Normally I would avoid them like the plague, but neither my local Fry's nor Microcenter had the card in stock so I stopped by BB out of desperation. This particular store had 2 units in stock -- they were sort of next to the video card section, just sitting there without a label or pricetag. The price came to $279, which is not bad IMO for the OC version of this particular card right now, considering that stock versions are going for as much as $300 online in some cases.

Where's the $200-$250 retail price tag? Even retail stores charge more than retail price now?

LOL...in my personal experience, calling Best Buy is the equivalelnt of calling Walmart ...Thwe employees are too lazy to look, and just lay the phone down for awhile, then come back and say "sir, i dont think we carry that."

I went to best buy the other day, and there was an empty spot on the shelf of video cards that listed the price at $279. It said 8600GT but there were real 8600GTs nearby for a lot lower price. I suspect that it had contained mislabeled 8800GTs based on the price and the fact that it was the only video card there that was out of stock.

Some Best Buys do have the BFG 8800GT OC's.
I just drove 45mi to get one for my wifes pc.

There wasnt a spot for the cards yet at this Best Buy, the cards were just sitting on a top shelf in a different isle with some pc cases.
The boxes werent even facing frontward , they were sideways and you couldnt even tell they were video card boxes...LOL

I plan on waiting for the price to come back down and then pick up a stock 8800GT for $230. I will most likely go eVGA tho, since I have bought all my cards from them in the past.

I just hope this current price surge doesn't last long.

I picked one up yesterday... at my THIRD Best Buy. Please call before you go, as the online stock check doesn't work very well. Even the in-store stock check can be wrong. Ask them to go to the shelf and hold one for you if they say they have them in stock.

I happened to be at the Buffalo Bestbuy at the Galleria on a shopping whim and low and behold, no 8800 GT lol; an 8600 GT was in stock though!

Wait a week or two and keep an eye out for Black Friday/15% off BFG cards and it may become a decent deal. Throw on some BB Reward Zone bucks and this might be a decent deal. Not sure if the e-tail price of these cards will go down anytime soon. Probably not before the 3800s/G92 GTS anyways.

$280 + 8.75% sales tax - 12% Reward Zone coupon = Yes please!

I'm going to reconfigure my whole system to get two of these in SLI. I think I can get by on one for now until I get my 8800GTX sold though.

Don't you think it might be a good idea to wait and see what new high-end cards will be available before even considering doing that? Especially if that means moving to a different motherboard and re-building your entire PC?

The Best Buy online website shows a BFG 8800 GT OC in stock at a local Best Buy for $280. Worth it? Otherwise, would it be a better idea to get the EVGA 8800 GT SSC for $300 from their website.

Went to BB on my lunch break and bought one. The price is comparable to NewEgg, ClubIT or ZipZoomFly GT offerings, and I live in Cali so I would be paying taxes no matter what. At least with this, I don't have to wait or pay for shipping and can return it easily within 30 days without RMA crap.

I would have waited for the price to settle down, but my 7600GT just happened to croaked the day of the 8800GT was released. I took that as a sign. ;p

Considering it's barely oc'd at all, the name is practically misleading. It's worth about $229-239. Up to you if you want to pay a premium to buy it right now before you really need it.

You have very good timing. and I agree with everything you said. Best Buy's return policy is also a big plus, you can use the card for 29 days and still take it back if you don't like it and there is also a lot to say for immediate gratification. As far as the clocks of this card goes, the BFG may not be clocked as high as some, but you'll likely be able to crank up the core to 700 Mhz. anyway using Rivatuner 2.06 or another utility. Hope you enjoy the card and good luck.

I bought one this past Saturday at the BB here. Thought that was a good price. They had one more that I saw in the case, maybe two.

As a different thread I started indicates, employess just don't know...

We got 4 people who called their local frys (at different states!) and each and every one was told that there is no such card as the GT, only a GTS. When insisted they said they don't have them... but going to frys personally each and every person was able to find it on the shelves... bunch of them, from various companies...
I saw a BFG overclock for 274$ sitting right next to a GTS...
