From calling 888-BEST-BUY to calling the local stores you can only use a coupon if you buy something in-store.

They won't price match my purchase!! I bought the 8800GT a few days ago for $279 - 10% coupon. I went there today told them to price match the on sale price, but they won't apply the 10% coupon for me. Is that true or that rep is just stupid don't know how to do it in their computer?

They should definitely price match it. I'd get a manager involved and threaten to tell everyone you know about this absurdness and how no one you know will ever shop there again.

Seriously.

They told me they can only price match the $249 sale price, the 10% coupon has already been used, so they can't price match with additional 10% off. anyone that works in Bestbuy could clarify this?

Yeah, that was bizarre. Sunday morning I ordered, it was listed as backordered for half a day, then it shipped and it's arriving tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

I bought ~2wk ago at $279. Went in today with my receipt. The rep scanned the ticket, punched a couple buttons and handed me an additional receipt reflecting a refund of 30+tax to my CC. I didn't have any coupon but was still happy.

I might wait to get my refund. I printed the add for the lower price, but since the new 8800GTS is supposed to arive around the first part of December, I might return my GT under the 30 day claus and buy the GTS. Either way, I have till Jan 31st or so to get my money back. I might even hold out for a bigger coupon.

I'm still sorta shocked this deal went through, normally Best Buy isn't the "Best" Buy, but we prospective 8800GT buyers don't really have too much choice in the market right now, do we?

Not exactly sure, but I am bringing my receipt into the store and going from there.

Whoever handled your return/pm is just being anal. Go back with another coupon .pdf and if they won't give you the 10% off tell them you want to do a return/repurchase. This should work without issue as the only hurdle you have to worry about in this scenario is if there are no other cards in stock. Typically this isn't even a problem especially if there's a manager involved since they would much rather honor their own 10% coupon than deal with a return on a video card.

Its not that surprising actually, as BB has had some pretty nice deals on video cards in the past. The one thing that's surprising is the GT's retail price at B&Ms is actually somewhat close to its MSRP/market price. This tells me that the GT is in fact aimed at the mid-range market with high availability expected. The GT pricing/frenzy at BB reminds me a lot of the VisionTek Ti4200 sales at BB around Thanksgiving some years back. Anyone remember that? People were stashing Ti4200s all over the store in anticipation of the Black Friday sale, was quite funny actually.

Actually I don't expect this to end anytime soon either, as there's typically flat-rate discounts for entire mfg lines at both BB and CC. Like 15% off all BFG/VisionTek cards. Tack on a 10-12% coupon and you're looking at some great prices on both the 8800GT and 3870 for something you can pick up at a B&M.

I went back to BB today armed with my receipt, the weekly ad, and the coupon from http://pulverizer72.com/scans/ which is the only coupon I could find online. A CSR and a manager were chatting at the Customer Service desk when I approached. The manager was very adamant that the coupon could not be combined with the sale price -- it had to be one or the other. The sale price was a few bucks cheaper so I went with that. The CSR credited my MC for $30 and some tax, and that was that.

Overall I'm very happy to get this card for $249 + tax, but I'm a little confused about the coupons. Others in this thread seem to have been allowed to combine the sale price with the coupon with no problems, while the BB manager I spoke with acted like I was crazy for even suggesting such a thing. Is it because I'm using a different coupon (http://pulverizer72.com/scans/ vs. the mailed out rewards coupon), or what is going on here? Even returning/rebuying would not have worked in this case, since I would still have had to combine the sale price with the coupon, which this BB would not allow.

Probably YMMV, but then again, you shouldn't have approached the the service desk when the manager was there.

I bought mine almost two weeks ago with a 12% coupon and this past Sunday I went to BB and got price adjustment. You were just unlucky.

I guess I had it backwards then. From reading this thread I somehow got the impression it was the CSRs who were ignorant of their own store policy of accepting coupons along with the sale price. So I figured the CSRs were trouble, and the managers would be more knowledgeable about their own store policy and therefore more sympathetic to our plight.

Now it seems like in fact BB policy is against combining the offers, but some CSRs are doing it anyway -- either out of ignorance, or because they are fellow gamers/enthusiasts, or ... pick a reason. You would think the registers would prevent them from doing this if it really is against store policy, or at least require a manager's authorization -- which would make the managers the better target once again.

I've never been a big fan of Best Buy and this is one reason why. There shouldn't be this much confusion and inconsistency about their policies. On the other hand, this card was a great deal IMO even without the coupon, so I can't really complain too much.

^^They were wrong. They should just scan the coupon, and the computer will either accept it or not. Shouldn't be their decision.

Since I didn't have a 12% RZ coupon I decided to use one of the current 10% off coupons that doesn't specifically list "graphics and sound cards". The cute girl at the customer service desk barely even looked at the coupon, looked at my receipt from last week showing $251.99 after the 10% coupon, then said she would issue $27 back to my CC. Net price for the 8800GTOC was $243.55 after sales tax.

Haha, yeah, same thing happened to me. I had purchased it 3 days before and they said they can't use coupon w/ sale price. It would have to be from reg price.

Ok.

SO I ordered online the BFG 8800gt 512mb oc on the 21st in the evening. Backordered. I am wondering how long its going to take them to ship it out. I tried looking also at coompusa and they are also backordered. This sounds pretty serious and feels like it will take a long while. Anyone familliar with this situation? How long does it really take?

Thanks,
LJ

I'd say the best part about the BB deal is the possibility of being able to pick up an 8800GT in-store. I don't know if the sale is still valid at this point, so I recommend you order an 8800GT from Dell at $208 (MSI 8800GT) or $235 (XFX 8800GT).

You'll still have to wait as you've ordered online, but this deal is much more recent and may not be expired, as the BB deal most likely is.

You can visit your local BB so a CSR can check stock from the other store(s) and have one transferred if it's available.
