working fine is one thing
having it to work at best quality is another

can you do 16xAA 16xAF in that resolution and run a playable frame rate in... say..... Rainbow6 Vegas?

i had to say.. my old 7600GT runs fine in all games as well...

Man, I wish I could justify this. I just got one of those Frys E4300/ECS combos and it would be nice to ditch that MB and upgrade to a nice MB/PCI-E/DDR2 setup. But when you do the math:

8800GTS: $360 (plus tax)
Good MB: $200-250
DDR2: $250
Total: ~$800

That's just not in the cards for me. So tempting though, but I gotta exercise some kind of credit card discipline.

I think rainbow 6 vegas needs more patches or was just made poorly for pc because theres nothing special in that game that would cause it to run as slow as it does. Graphics are nice but aren't that great specialy compared to games like BF2142 where the maps are very large and open with much more rendering needed. Even that 8800 probably wouldn't run RB6 Vegas that great.

These'll probably hit $300 or less by March when R600 is released. There will probably be some G80 refreshes along with the mainstream slower parts, I think EVGA already announced 4 new Superclocked cards (higher stock speeds, new cooling etc.). Maybe a GDDR4 version when R600 is released. Still a nice card, if you can wait though, you're better off waiting.
