How does perhaps a few dozen bad experiences with the cards (or what appears to be questionable vendor practices) here and on other forums translate into BFG's 5900nu cards being junk? What sort of empirical evidence are you basing that statement on? How many thousands of 5900nu would you guess they've sold? There are other more plausible reasons that a manufacturer might drop prices on a product besides attempting to dump junk onto the market (and thereby gain the resulting reputation from doing so).

In light of the fact that BFG stands behind their cards with lifetime warranties and a demonstrated intent to do whatever it takes to make sure their customers get problems solved with as little pain as possible, I don't have any problem recommending people give them a look. I would however advise them to go with a vendor they feel comfortable with based on others' experiences and reseller ratings.

I not only second ALL of that, but just holding the card, and the packaging for that matter, BFG has really created a solid product. Excellant craftsmanship and they seem to have taken care in the finest of details. I truly believe that BFG is a gamers company... run by gamers themselves. They seem to have their act together and are doing their damnedest to make a name for themselves. Selling at a low cost, likely to create brand awareness and due to the fact that next gen cards are not that far off.

Id buy BFG in a heartbeat again... then again, I wont have to cuz the card I have now rocks.

I just wish I could find one of these BFG FX5900's in stock with CoD for under $200 and I would be a buyer.

Actually, when I read the article that gave us a close look into the BFG tech company (I think it was posted on firingsquad.com), in all of the pictues I saw middle-aged Asian women working on the shop floor. They are gamers??

(just kidding, even though it's true about the pictures).

Yes, although I bought from GameVE.com, I was one of the lucky ones that had no problems, though my card did not have that yellow sticker and plastic over the heatsink. I can say the BFG card itself is great, and a g0ddamn3d overclocking beast. I dont have problem with BFG Tech., but I *am* curious to see the resolve of that whole "selling returns as new" issue between BFG and GameVE...

Fry's has the BFG Asylum 5900 128MB at $199.99, but no longer have the packages with the COD game included.
(at least not in either San Diego store)

They also have a PNY Verto FX5900SE with 128 MB DDR that DOES HAVE the COD game bundled.

Are these "essentially" the same card? Does the "SE" mean Special Edition, and does that mean "sub-par"?

I picked up the BFG, only because I've heard they are very overclockable, and they generally use very fast memory chips. I've not heard the same things about the PNY.

Just wanted to say, I got the bfg 5900 from gameve.com. It came not shrinkwrapped, with no yellow sticker, but the thing runs fine, has no problems.

I haven't flashed it to a 5950, because with so many problems with people receiving bad ones, it makes me think that flashing may not be quite as safe as some people are claiming.

Just a friendly advice: make sure you try out both the VGA and DVI outputs. With the card I got from gameve, VGA worked fine but DVI didn't work at all. RMA'ed to BFG and waiting for replacement card.

I just recieved my BFG 5900. It was boxed and came with CoD game. I bought it from outpost.com because they are shipping to Turkey but they don't have BFG 5900 on thier website anymore. I was feeling lucky to have the CoD game but the card is not working In the boot screen there are white vertical lines and it won't load in to windows. I guess I have to send the card back to USA and have to pay for shipping (which is 40$) And I don't know if BFG will pay the return shipping, I will write to them.

they use the same gpu (tho slower clock), and slower, but lower latency memory (2.8ns/700Mhz).

overall they're within a few % of the 5900nu in performance, and are more compact cards that only take up 1 slot (tho it's recommended you don't use the slot immediately adjescent to the agp anyway)

Make sure you connect the extra power cable needed for the card or you will get those white lines.

Nah, SE only means sh!t edition for ati's cards; the nvidia ones with SE are usually fairly decent, as is the case with the 5900. It has slower ran but this costs very little performance. In most cases it is only a few fps slower than the regular 5900.

Most shipping carriers aren't that careful with boxes. There's a pretty good chance it may have gotten damaged on the way there...or it was just defective. Did you give BFG Tech Support a call yet? (or email)

Got my order from BuyxtremeGear.com last nite and I was VERY dissappointed. The antistatic bag was not only open but the dongle an driver disk were stuck inside with the card! I thought for sure this was a dead card like the gameve.com folks were getting. Prayed alot an stuck it in. Didn't know the card had blue LED's an my first thought is that it was arcing... LOL but it booted up fine. Ran 3dmark just to see an got decent scores for a 5900. O/C'ed it a bit just to see an still ran fine. Dunno if it was just a return that someone didnt want or what it was.

I had never bought from buyxtremegear.com before but their reseller ratings were good. Card works fine so I guess I really have no room to complain but sticking all the extras in the antistatic bag with the card just doesnt sit right with me.

That's funny - most folks who got a legit retail card claimed it did *not* come in an anti-static bag, just sandwiched between two molded pieces of plastic...

Ive OC'd the crap outta mine and it runs smooth, but still, thinking you got someone else's return is enough to piss on that...

Is the card better the the 5700Ultra. I was undecided at Frys last night and finally I bought the 5700Ultra with was $208 as an open item. When I went to pay for it the cashier told me that it has a $40 MIR. I had to buy something since my Radeon 9600Pro is driving me nuts!

I e-mailed bfgtech support and they said that they could ship the card only in USA. So I gived them my friend's adrees in CA. The card's box was in a good shape so I don't think that it was damaged on the way, I think it is defective.

I connected the cable. When I don't connect the cable the fans don't work. But if this "white line" problem is a comman issue with the power cabels then I'll try with the other cables of my psu.

I wonder if they will accept the card if I send it C.O.D.

Haha, thats funny! I bought a 5900 to replace my ATI 9600 Pro also. Tired of the driver problems and the no video problem with the DVI.

If you can connect it with a power cable that is a free run,(not split from other devices)try that. Don,t send it cod unless you get approval from Outpost, otherwise they will not accept and you will be stuck with shipping charges both ways.

Also make sure your power supply is in the 400w range.I've seen 350w power supplies that won't do this card.

Another reason not to buy from BuyxtremeGear.com. Sounds like they sent you someone elses return. That's really lame.

I got a BFG5900. Upgraded from a BFGti4200. 4200 is/was a great card. 5900 seems fine so far. In all the threads I read BFG's support seems to shine most of all. I called them once at midnight last year and actually spoke to a CSR. I agree BFG has low prices. But, its the value I go for. Assuming the BFG5900 works well for the next year, I will be looking for the next generation of BFG products.

Oh ya, both the BFGti4200 from over a year ago and the 5900 both came in the plastic sandwich thing with no static bag. Seems ok.

LOL, oh ya...I sold my 4200 to a dude on the basis that it had a lifetime warranty. That sure helped getting a good price for the 4200. I am sure I will use that when I sell the 5900 next year

Dope! Got my package from enpc today and popped it in. I am running stably just clocking to 5950 ultra speeds. It is definitely a speedy card, but I am a little miffed that (even at stock speeds) I am getting some problems with KOTOR. I am considering swapping my 9500 in until I finish the game...
