Alot of reasons why these and Radeon 9800 pros are being price cut, whether or not the nextgen models will be out on schedule is irrelevant. Just it being talked about in all forums and hardware sites is enough for everyone to hold out on buying, and economics forces prices to drop as incentive to keep sales up on current models.

In reply to the 5900 being a weak card that is complete lies from an ATI fanboy. The card is a very good overclocker, in most tests with current drivers beating or being a close tie to 9700 pro performance, except in a few cases of AA/AF turned all way up.

As far as the 9800 pro being superior there is no doubt. But then figure in Call of Duty in the price and this card cost me $140-150, now compare that to a retail 9800 pro at around $235-250. Is it really worth $100 difference, maybe for some but the performance gain to me isnt worth the difference. This card is not meant to be a competitor to the 9800 series anyways, compare it to a 9600XT which is close to same price range and then talk about which brand is superior. I will always buy what has the best price/performance ratio, whether its ATI/Nvidia or Intel/AMD, because the performance is what counts, being a fanboy accomplishes nothing.

Just some benchmarks... Not to mention the cool fact that the XT will overclock itself, if it can...

a little more money? the cheapest 9800 XT i have seen is $399, more than double the price of a 5900

there is a good deal @ newegg on the 9800 pro but thats OEM, if you live in CA (like i do) the 9800 pro comes out to $250 for the OEM after tax. i ordered one of these from ENPC for ~$170. keepin in mind these guys overclock to 5950 speeds, i am not dissappointed in spending $80 less than a pro and $230 less than a XT

if i am not mistaking, nvidia cards self OC as well

also, it seems that you pointed out the few benchies that nvidia is "weak" it. if you look at the Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide benchies, you will see that it performed better than the ATi counterpart

personally, i own a 9800 pro and i am very happy with it but at this price point there is no doubt in my mind that this is a better buy

also, its nice to have the lifetime warrenty w/ BFG

Your link to the First benchmark graph doesn't even show the 5900 listed. Please take a look at ALL of the benchmark comparisons. The 5900 Ultra (It doesn't compare the 5900 nu) is very comparable to the 9700 and 9800. Obviously the 9800 is an overall faster card but you can at least be assured of video card and driver compatibility with the Nvidia and its also cheaper. If you want to make comparisons at least try and be fair about it next time!

IMO...The 5900 NU (retail with VIVO) for ~$170 shipped is a better deal than the 9800 Pro (OEM) for $230.00. Mainly because the 5900 NU has really good game performance AND VIVO (plus retail).

Now if the 9800 Pro (OEM) comes down to ~$190...I might just have to pick one up for my other box, but if the 5900 NU comes down to ~$150.00 I may have to buy 1 more of those, but if the 9600 XT comes down to ~$125.00...WHERE WILL THE MADNESS END

The VisionTek 9600XT was $131.99AR at CompUSA from 1/18-1/19.

What a completely biased and BS post.
If you're going to post test results from a article post them ALL, just not the ones that favor your bias. Unbelievable.

Look, if you ant price and LESS quality, go 5900. If you like PERFORMANCE, QUALITY, AND EYE CANDY, go ATI.

I told you, I have BOTH... d0y. The 9800 is the BEST performer and shows the BEST eye candy.

If you like jagged edges, go 5900...

What a completely biased and BS post.
OK HOMER BOY! Biased? I have BOTH cards... So how is THAT biased?

These fanboy posts in deals threads don't help much. The bottom line is this deal is pretty good for this card. It plays games more than acceptably well.

There are plenty of ATI deal threads to cheer in, monkeysh0t.

lol.. talk about asinine statements from a fanboy.

i have the 5900nu and the 9700pro; overclocking both, the oc'd 5900 spanks the 9700 pro in almost all areas.

graphics quality? the 9700 imo has a sublte advantange in aa (cat 3.10 vs forceware 53.03), and the 5900 has slightly better texture filtering (while i don't see it when gaming, most reviews state ati's text filtering performs a bit better). overall 3d quality? comparing both running the same time next to each other, you really couldn't tell which pc was running which card.

2d quality? most reviewers give the ati a slight nod in this area, tho they all pretty much say both are excellent. honestly, i would have to scrutinize to tell the difference; they're that comparable.

price? 5900 wins hands down. this is a card for $170 that is running at 5950u/9800xt speeds, for almost $300 less - and it comes with vivo, 24/7 toll free support and a lifetime warranty (and, if you're lucky, a free copy of CoD). now tell me, how is THAT a bad thing?

they're both great cards, and while the ati might have a bit of a performance advantage in ps2 benchies, there is no better value in the $150-170 price range right now. in all honesty, with next-gen cards upcoming in the next few months, spending $450 on a 9800xt/5950u right now is not a very smart way to spend your money - especially when a card for $300 less has 90% of the performance...

edit: btw, the "lifetime" warranty is not like PNY, where once the card is no longer "mainstream", it no longer has a "Life". under bfg's warranty, they will replace it with the next closet "next" gen card, all warranties should be that good.

Happy days...just got my card from Newegg and it did indeed come with CoD. I am quite pleased with my purchase. The 9800 has been officially blown away in the price/performance category for me.

It is the best price/ performance card. With the VIVO, it is a definite buy.

Too bad, newegg doesnn't have it anymore. Would really like to have it with the CoD.

So I checked around, and the only place I can still find which includes Call of Duty is Outpost.com, but they're selling it for $200, plus more for shipping, so that's not any great deal compared to the others mentioned in this thread. Fry's is selling it retail for $200 as well, but you'll have sales tax on top of that.

If anyone finds anyplace else selling it cheaply which includes Call of duty, please let it be known.

I wouldn't be too sure about outpost. None of the BFG 5900s at Fry's B&M have ever had the CoD stickers. The product page says nothing about including the game, either. bfg outpost page

Keep telling yourself that... Maybe the video card gods will make it come true.

Look, if you're a hardcore gamer, then you want ATI.

A little on the PNY warranty...

In 11/2002 I bought a TI4600 from Best Buy. 14 months later, the card starting going bad, so I called PNY after I noticed the "Lifetime Warranty" on the side of the box. The promptly told me to take if back to where I bought it. So I dug up my Best Buy receipt, and called, because I didn't think they (Best Buy) would honor it, and they DID! At this time, they no longer had TI4600, so they let me upgrade to an ATI 9800 PRO. I just had to pay the difference. Just thought I would share.
