Seems to be a trend with e-stores...they get a BUNCH of traffic for an item they're offering for a really good price and then they do the old "switch-a-roo" (i.e., quietly substitute OEM instead of retail, don't specify the speed of the RAM and then start selling cards with slower RAM chips, etc.).

It's tough to "know" what you're getting with e-stores sometimes...

Good luck with the return...my 5900 NU from ENPC came today and is a retail card with all the cables, software, etc.

Look, if you ant price and LESS quality, go 5900. If you like PERFORMANCE, QUALITY, AND EYE CANDY, go ATI.

I told you, I have BOTH... d0y. The 9800 is the BEST performer and shows the BEST eye candy.

If you like jagged edges, go 5900...

What a completely biased and BS post.
OK HOMER BOY! Biased? I have BOTH cards... So how is THAT biased?

lol.. talk about asinine statements from a fanboy.

i have the 5900nu and the 9700pro; overclocking both, the oc'd 5900 spanks the 9700 pro in almost all areas.

graphics quality? the 9700 imo has a sublte advantange in aa (cat 3.10 vs forceware 53.03), and the 5900 has slightly better texture filtering (while i don't see it when gaming, most reviews state ati's text filtering performs a bit better). overall 3d quality? comparing both running the same time next to each other, you really couldn't tell which pc was running which card.

2d quality? most reviewers give the ati a slight nod in this area, tho they all pretty much say both are excellent. honestly, i would have to scrutinize to tell the difference; they're that comparable.

price? 5900 wins hands down. this is a card for $170 that is running at 5950u/9800xt speeds, for almost $300 less - and it comes with vivo, 24/7 toll free support and a lifetime warranty (and, if you're lucky, a free copy of CoD). now tell me, how is THAT a bad thing?

they're both great cards, and while the ati might have a bit of a performance advantage in ps2 benchies, there is no better value in the $150-170 price range right now. in all honesty, with next-gen cards upcoming in the next few months, spending $450 on a 9800xt/5950u right now is not a very smart way to spend your money - especially when a card for $300 less has 90% of the performance...

edit: btw, the "lifetime" warranty is not like PNY, where once the card is no longer "mainstream", it no longer has a "Life". under bfg's warranty, they will replace it with the next closet "next" gen card, all warranties should be that good.

Sorry, I am not that familiar with this "lifetime" warranty of BFG, could u please explain to me? You mean anytime the card stop working, BFG will give me a new "next generation" card without any cost? Thanks

strange wording from BFG:

BFG Technologies is proud to warrant the original purchaser of the hardware products included in this package (?Products?) that the Products will be free from defects in material or workmanship for the lifetime of the product when given normal wear and proper usage. This warranty is valid if the product(s):

? Were not damaged while being installed.
? Were not damaged by software or hardware from a company or individual other than BFG Technologies or by motherboard incompatibility.
? Were operated in accordance with BFG Technologies specifications, instructions and any technical support directions.
? Were not damaged by overclocking, tampering, user error, accident, disaster, abuse, misuse, power supply, power application, alteration, repair, modification, a fix or replacement by someone other than BFG Technologies.

BFG Technologies liability under this warranty, or in connection with any other claim relating to the Products, is limited to the repair or at BFG Technologies option, the replacement of the portion of the Products which were defective in material or workmanship.

You assume the risk of loss in transit and the returned Products shall be the sole property of BFG Technologies. BFG Technologies warrants the repaired or replaced Products will be free from defects in material or workmanship.

Keep telling yourself that... Maybe the video card gods will make it come true.

Look, if you're a hardcore gamer, then you want ATI.

More fanboyism. If you're going to play doom3 or other ogl based games you're better off with a 5900, where nvidia is noticeably quicker.

To all who recently recevied their 5900nu from Gameve.com, can you tell me what is the manufacture date on the small sticker on the lower left hand corner of the card? The one I just received was dated 2/03! I am not even sure if it is not an open box. I feel ripped off with the restocking charge. Should have stayed with more reputable dealer.

Got mine from newegg.com last night.
WOW. What an amazing card just from the contruction of it. Thing must wiegh 3x's as much as my GF3 did... so I thank god for that 2 slot contruction to hold it up and in place. The all-copper heatsink is just pretty too look at.

CoD Included, runs damn quiet with those 2 fans (and the 2 blue LEDs really give off a cool look IMHO.. I was going to add cathods some day, but this card gives the inside of my box a cool subtle tint as is)

Havent actually even run a game with it yet (basketball night last night) nor have I OCed it for that matter.

But just from first initial handling of the card, its a winner through and through.

BFG is gonna be a force to reckin' with I think.

Oh... my olnly concern and I guess question is the operating temp on these things.

Looking at the reading the NV control panel, at idle windows desktop its reading 56C GPU core and 36C ambient? That sound right?

The promptly told me to take if back to where I bought it. So I dug up my Best Buy receipt, and called, because I didn't think they (Best Buy) would honor it, and they DID! At this time, they no longer had TI4600, so they let me upgrade to an ATI 9800 PRO. I just had to pay the difference. Just thought I would share.
That's very interesting, and nice that BB would do that. Im curious on 2 things - 1) did you get to keep the old 4600? and 2) what was the price difference? When I bought my Ti4600, it was ~$360, and a 9800pro should retail less than that, of course you did say 14months past 11/02, making it almost a year ago. (Ive never owned an ATI based chipset, dont follow those prices too much).

Ive still got my PNY Ti4600, I wonder if I can do an upgrade...

At most Best Buy stores this would be nearly impossible. Maybe they will take pity on you and take your card back for exchange, but only if the item is "devo" which means the item is returnable to the manufacturer. At my local store they would say, you bought it when??? Our return/exchange policy is..... and you will have to contact the manufacturer.

did anyone in CA order from enpc? if so, how long did it take for the delivery?

i bought this card from fry's for $215 after tax (CoD was included - last one they had at Campbell Fry's), but i'm thinking of returning it and ordering from enpc instead. i would save $43 since no shipping and sales tax.

Nope, I didn't get to keep it... Didn't want it.
I think I paid around 300.00 for the 4600 when it came out, so the price difference was like $50.00 for the 9800PRO, which I was GLAD to pay.

ATI, the place to be... FANBOY! HAHA, you guys that called me that are d0rks. LOL

I am sure more fanb0y mail will come my way.

Kiss up, sound stupid, disappointed, in need of a video card, and they might help you...

Got mine from newegg today and, other than my free shirt looking like someone rubbed their poop covered hands on it, everything looks good. Anyone know how to go about capturing video off of the video input? Most other vivo cards I have bought included software, but this BFG appears to only have video studio 7.....

Evidently VS7 will do capturing.... it just doesnt seem to be working (at least over the composite input - i haven tried the svideo-in). Anyone else had any luck with this?

I got mine from enpc 2 days ago (also SoCal) and I checked the memory. It's Hyundai 2.2ns. There's very thin sticky tape between the heatink and the chips, so be careful when you're removing it. Actually, I don't recommend even doing that.
