Is it no longer available at newegg? I put it in my wishlist earlier today, and it's no longer there. I hope they get in back in stock, but does anybody know if they're planning to? Sorry if this has already been addressed.

Like I just said, it sold out in 45 minutes. They took it off their site but I don't know if that means anything, they took it off a few days ago also but brought it right back.

Oh, sorry. I didn't see you post that, heh. Hopefully they bring it back, I heard it's an easy card to BIOS flash into the 5950 Ultra.

Why would you want to?
Makes no sense to me to do so.
Jus tOC the piss out of it and keep the tighter timings

Well some people were able to achieve higher overclocks after being flashed, core that is, so I guess either way has its advantages.

I'll take the looser timings and extra voltage to get a more stable overclock. As mentioned above, you can go even further than standard 5950U speeds.

heh.. and i've read several posts where some ppl messed up the card. i honestly don't see where the possible return is worth the risk.

just a quick question- what's the hardware difference between a 5900, 5900U, and 5950U?

i've been hearing people saying they've overclocked the 5900 to 5950U speeds, so i'm just wondering if Nvidia only changed the software and settings, or if there's a physical difference.

The Ultra has TWICE as much memory (256 Meg) and I beleive it is clocked higher! I have no idea if it is faster memory but I would assume so.

I never said there wasn't any risk, he just asked why someone would want to, so I gave a reason. I'm probably not going to do it, but this is why some people do.

They're basically the same; only difference is memory and clock speeds.

5950 ultra > 475/950/256mb
5900 ultra > 450/850/256mb
5900 > 400/850/128mb

5900 > 400/850/128mb

Yeap and yeap... and I've already OCed my 5900nu to over the 5950-Ultra speeds. So the only difference is more memory (which, with TODAYS games has nominal inpact). However that "more memory" is also techincally at looser timings than the 5900, so what I lose I probably gain right back.

Now I gotta beef up my CPU....

I just got mine BFG FX 5900 from buyxtremegear.com which was order last week and it came in a retail box and "Call of Duty" game with it. I'm so happy... thank you OP and this board for my purchase... btw price was $161 + $5.50 for shipping which comes out to total of $166.50 which is lower than the original post. Will flash it tonight to FX 5950! Such a good price for this card and what it can do plus free game... actually a really awesome game so... works out for me. Another thing.. I was able to purchase a Atop yellow X-gamers case for $19 (original $59) plus shipping ($16.50) from there as well. It has see through window with one led fan and 350w psu... not bad for the price. Total came to $202 for me and now time to build my ultimate game machine.

I was also one of the ones to order that BFG Card from Newegg before it went OOS again and then later dissappear from the site altogether.

The site reports my order is ready to be shipped, Im hoping they get it shipped today cuz I worry I will instead get a "sorry we discontinued this item" type message.

I had also bought the XDreamer case, Black with Blue Leds. This BFG card with its Blue Led Fans and Blue Board will look good with it.

Newegg is reporting that my tracking info will be posted after 6pm CST, looking forward to seeing what they sent. I have heard from some how Newegg will just send a different part "a better one" when they get orders for items they are no longer selling. :/

I ordered the BFG 5900 from gameve.com friday, I paid the extra $4 charge for them to ship the card out the same day, which they did. I received it today.

It came in the retail box, but it did not have Call of Duty in it. So it appears to have been random as to who got CofD and who didn't. I guess you can't fault gameve overly for this, other retailers did much the same thing, and the ad on gameve's site said nothing about COD.

And, I got a free tshirt with it, which gameve sends out for rating them on pricewatch.com. Considering that my pricewatch rating for them was Neutral, and said something like, "I haven't received the package yet so the rating is neutral as the transaction isn't finished", I don't mind having to have "rated" them to have gotten the tshirt.

I'd like to talk about the card "deal" in general. No where on thier
site does it say OEM version and what I got was OEM. No shrink wrap and no
call of duty CD is the give away dispite having a retail box instead of
brown/white box. This is basically fraud on thier part. When a product is
listed on thier site a resonable customer expects full retail verions and
packageing unless specified OEM verion very clearly, as they seem to do with
many of thier other products. Newegg and every reputable site clearly lists OEM for OEM products.
Not them. "Lets not list anything and see if we get customers to bite" is thier attitude.

Third I'd like to talk about the shipping container. All it was was a fedex "LARGE"
box with no, I mean zero, packing material which left the boxed card about 10" to move
about freely. This is an aweful way of shipping and I hope it's addressed
and probably explains why my card is DOA.

Let you know on monday what they say to these issues.

Hey, question for you. Mine came the same way, in a retail box, but not shrink wrapped. Why do you consider that to not be the retail version? It has the box, all the materials, the only thing it is missing is the shrink wrapping. As for the packaging, lucky for me, I guess, I had a tshirt in the box which was big enough to serve as packing material, it took up most of the empty space in the box.

(and why is it missing the shrink wrapping, anyway?)

I saw a cable with the BFG FX59000 that appears to be an adapter for Video In and Video Out through the DVI(<-- iI Think thats what its called..).
Is that what yall mean by VIVO? Or are yall talking about Video in and Out Ports on the card?
Or is ViVo some hip new slang for Cybering.

Well i should rephrase that and state that I read a post from a guy on some boards (maybe these, I have been to so many the past few days)who said he got a part switch from newegg.com and new egs response was the part he oprder was discontinued so they sent him a better one. He was not happy but kept the part to avoid the RMA process and Shipping charges.
Hear-say but it has me worried since its been 30 hours and Newegg has not shipped my BFG yet....

I have done Biz with Newegg.com for 3-4 years now and honestly they are the best online source for PC gear in my book. Sometimes I will find a better deal elswhere but I still end up back at newegg.

I received mine from gameve.com today and it did come with CoD. I put my card into my system (Athlon64 300+) and can run Madden 04, Flight Sim 04, and Nascar 2003 all at 1600x1200 is full gorgeous resolution.

I replaced a Geforce4 Ti 4600 which was awesome as well - but this 5900 rocks. My system and CPU stay cool and you can't even hear the fans. The blue light is nice as well. It comes with a VIVO dongle, DVI to analog connector, the driver CD which also has some fun demos, and Call of Duty.

I'm pretty happy with my $169 purchase!

sunfalcon, did yours come in a retail box?
how's the track record on gameve.com?
I second that inquiry, sunfalcon - seems gameve was doing a "switcheroo" on retail, subbing an OEM instead... ? Let us know, thanks in advance.

Yes, mine came in a retail box. However, after reading all these other posts, I may have been one of the lucky ones who got everything included. I wasn't expecting the CoD CD - nice bonus!

Thanks for the update, starknaked. I thought about paying the extra $4, but didn't. I always thought of those as "gauge" fees that dont accomplish anything, and actually mine came today too. Im at work now, see per the FedEx track# that it is at home waiting on my doorstep.
So, you didnt get call of duty, but did you get all of the included supplies in the retail box (dvi-vga, vivio dongle, etc.?) Checking with the BFG site, you can see a list of what all should come in the retail box. Thanks...

Even if our experiences prove OK at GameVE, I dont think I'll order from them again...
