Oh, sorry. I didn't see you post that, heh. Hopefully they bring it back, I heard it's an easy card to BIOS flash into the 5950 Ultra.
I'll take the looser timings and extra voltage to get a more stable overclock. As mentioned above, you can go even further than standard 5950U speeds.Originally posted by: Homerboy
Jus tOC the piss out of it and keep the tighter timings

Well some people were able to achieve higher overclocks after being flashed, core that is, so I guess either way has its advantages.

just a quick question- what's the hardware difference between a 5900, 5900U, and 5950U?
i've been hearing people saying they've overclocked the 5900 to 5950U speeds, so i'm just wondering if Nvidia only changed the software and settings, or if there's a physical difference.

heh.. and i've read several posts where some ppl messed up the card. i honestly don't see where the possible return is worth the risk.

They're basically the same; only difference is memory and clock speeds.
5950 ultra > 475/950/256mb
5900 ultra > 450/850/256mb
5900 > 400/850/128mb
I have heard from some how Newegg will just send a different part "a better one" when they get orders for items they are no longer selling. :/

Yes my card came dead yesterday but that's not my main issue with them... that can be fixed plus I have killer protection with my CC if not.
I'd like to talk about the card "deal" in general. No where on thier
site does it say OEM version and what I got was OEM. No shrink wrap and no
call of duty CD is the give away dispite having a retail box instead of
brown/white box. This is basically fraud on thier part. When a product is
listed on thier site a resonable customer expects full retail verions and
packageing unless specified OEM verion very clearly, as they seem to do with
many of thier other products. Newegg and every reputable site clearly lists OEM for OEM products.
Not them. "Lets not list anything and see if we get customers to bite" is thier attitude.
Third I'd like to talk about the shipping container. All it was was a fedex "LARGE"
box with no, I mean zero, packing material which left the boxed card about 10" to move
about freely. This is an aweful way of shipping and I hope it's addressed
and probably explains why my card is DOA.
Let you know on monday what they say to these issues.

Thats a new one to me... never heard of newegg.com doing that before.

I second that inquiry, sunfalcon - seems gameve was doing a "switcheroo" on retail, subbing an OEM instead... ? Let us know, thanks in advance.Originally posted by: stickybytes

I received mine from gameve.com today and it did come with CoD. I put my card into my system (Athlon64 300+) and can run Madden 04, Flight Sim 04, and Nascar 2003 all at 1600x1200 is full gorgeous resolution.
I replaced a Geforce4 Ti 4600 which was awesome as well - but this 5900 rocks. My system and CPU stay cool and you can't even hear the fans. The blue light is nice as well. It comes with a VIVO dongle, DVI to analog connector, the driver CD which also has some fun demos, and Call of Duty.
I'm pretty happy with my $169 purchase!
sunfalcon, did yours come in a retail box?
how's the track record on gameve.com?
Thanks for the update, starknaked. I thought about paying the extra $4, but didn't. I always thought of those as "gauge" fees that dont accomplish anything, and actually mine came today too. Im at work now, see per the FedEx track# that it is at home waiting on my doorstep.Originally posted by: starknaked
I ordered the BFG 5900 from gameve.com friday, I paid the extra $4 charge for them to ship the card out the same day, which they did. I received it today.
It came in the retail box, but it did not have Call of Duty in it. So it appears to have been random as to who got CofD and who didn't. I guess you can't fault gameve overly for this, other retailers did much the same thing, and the ad on gameve's site said nothing about COD.
And, I got a free tshirt with it, which gameve sends out for rating them on pricewatch.com. Considering that my pricewatch rating for them was Neutral, and said something like, "I haven't received the package yet so the rating is neutral as the transaction isn't finished", I don't mind having to have "rated" them to have gotten the tshirt.
