i bought mine at fry's with CoD for $199. I was going to return it when i saw this deal, but after reading all the "hit & misses" decided to keep it. just installed and no problems...haven't try OC yet. Smart man

The yellow sticker says "CAUTION PLEASE REMOVE THIS PROTECTIVE COVER BEFORE USING THE PRODUCT!". 0-2 the sticker is actually on a clear plastic over which surrounds the heatsink and the fans (front side of the card). i really don't think it matters if had this or not.

As for CoD, yes it does come shrink wrapped.1-1 you should be able to tell if it's wrapped by the retailer since mine is wrapped like a music CD 0-2(like those very smooth plastic that's difficult to open without a knife or something sharp). if it's the heat gun plastic wrap type, then most likely it was re-wrapped by the retailer. the wrap i got was folded at the spine (where the title of CD usually goes).

the DVI to VGA converter, power splitter, and the doggle should have come in a sealed plastic bags. 2-0 and lastly, the paper cd sleeve for the driver should be sealed, 0-2whereas the videostudio 7 sleeve is not.
hope this helps.

^^^ guess it's not even close
Thanks for the info..don't know what they are selling but it's not the card you have.

UPDATE: Talked to BFG tech support again tonight. Guy says these could even be a fake card(s) as has happend to them before on avanced replacement RMAs. He said to call BFG between hours of 7-7 central and talk to a "lead tech" to find out if your card is genuine or not. Also to get to the bottom of thier distribution chain and document your compaints. I will be shooting him a copy of this thread in addition to serials and whatever else he may require. One problem is if you RMA your product with BFG and they find the card a) is not genuine or b) has been flashed they will bill your credit card the full retail cost of the card in addition to all shipping costs incured so it may be better to simply demand a full refund from the vendor.

I wish Newegg.com would get these back in stock. I was on their email notification list but missed it last time they restocked and sold out in 45 minutes.

I need a new FX5900 videocard and Call of Duty!

After seeing a couple friends get theirs fine from enpc, and since I live in CA, which makes the tax kill the newegg deal for me, I finally buckled down and ordered the card. I have CoD so I don't care if it comes with it or not.

I have been debating this since I saw the first post in this thread... Lurking... thinking...

I had to give it, it was too good to pass up. My friend ordered the 9700 for 115, I can't wait to wipe the smile off of his face when I show him how much freaking faster I am.

If we give gameve the benefit of the doubt, could it be that BFG's quality control just sucks, period? I mean, sure a lot of people are getting problematic cards from gameve, but acidwizard got it from Newegg and the card didn't work well either.

By the way, I called BFG a second time to get an RMA number after faxing them my receipt. The second tech told me they only charge $15 for advance replacement RMAs. No charge for regular RMA where you ship them the card first, and they ship one back to you after receiving your card. So if you don't want to deal with gameve, it might be easier to just RMA the card back to BFG for replacement.

I also live in CA and have been thinking of getting this card from ENPC. It doesn't look like newegg is gonna be getting these back anytime soon. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with ENPC? Anyone know how long it would take to ship to CA using their UPS ground delivery?

According to their site, they're selling the retail version, not the OEM one...

However, when first installing, etc., I was tinkering and gonna OC it with powerstrip. What's strange is the core clock was defaulting to 300 instead of the stock 400MHz, though the RAM was 850 (where it should be). I found that it was due to the memory timing also defaulting to "standard", though when I set it to "performance", the core clock went up to 400, ram 850 same. I did OC it to an impressive 475/950, and it netted me an additional 700marks in 3dmark2k3. Seemed stable. But everytime I boot my system, it defaults to the 300/850... very frustrating. I alsop havent checked if the DVI out is fried or not... I'm strictly a gamer with no LCD, so honestly it wouldn't bother me... But knowing that this card could have possibly been sold, flashed/fried, returned, then re-sold, that pisses me a little.

I would highly recommend using Coolbits if you want to retain your OC speeds at startup. The 300 MHz clock speed is correct because that is for 2D performance. Nvidia designed so that the card would throttle back when it is not running in 3D mode. When you are in 3D mode aka Performance mode, then the card will run at 400 MHz. Again, I recommend Coolbits to set the clock frequency on the FX 5900.

I finally started overclocking my BFG 5900 flashed with a 5950U BIOS. The auto-detect button gave me 514MHz core/1.03GHz memory, but that wasn't a stable speed (memory failed the test at that setting). I set it back to 510MHz core/980MHz memory and it works great. That setting gives a 6396 score in 3DMark03.

Has anyone "recently" (i.e., within the last 2 days) received a BFG 5900 NU RETAIL with COD CD? I ordered mine from ENPC and received a RETAIL card but no COD. I want to order another BFG 5900 NU WITH COD.

Thanks,

Bud

Gosh, I hope not.

No CoD. (they weren't giving that away in 01/03 when my card was made)
No sticker. No plastic cover surrounding heatsink.
Dongles, etc were in plastic bags.
Driver CD not sealed.
Videostudio not sealed, but that's correct.
Box not shrinkwrapped.

I emailed gameve, will follow up with a call later, saying that I think they accidentally sent me a used product and that I'd like a new one. California consumer protection laws say you can't sell a used/second/defective product without clearly stating that it is used/second/defective in the advertising -- they gotta call a refurb a refurb. If I manage to get someone with a clue on the phone at gameve I guess I'll have to mention that. I'll also call BFG after my buddy faxes the receipt to see what my options are..

Yeah, that's it.

BTW, most of the "full retail" boxes do NOT and never did include CoD. That was a limited time offer, but NewEgg did advertise and ship the boxes with CoD included last time. If it wasn't advertised when you ordered it, CoD probably won't be included.

Can someone with the card let me know if there is any video bios information when your computer starts up? I think that I might have a card that someone previously flashed badly. Argh.
I did get an RMA number. Tech support was pretty good, not much waiting.

Yes, when I ordered they had the COD in the pics....

See, I stole the Pics.. lol
The Box advertised....

However, newegg states that the pics are reference only, so its possible to not get what the pic shows.

Mine's didn't show any video bios info when the computer starts up either.

Given that my card does not work in DVI mode during startup, but works fine in DVI mode as a second computer once the computer boots into windows, this probably shows that the DVI circuitry is fine, and that this is a firmware instead of hardware issue. A bad bios flash is a possibility.

I don't see it on my card. But I don't see it with my GF 2 MX either. In fact, I don't even see the BIOS status screen where the memory and drives are detected. Hit power on the computer and the first screen I see is my LILO boot screen. Takes a couple seconds for the monitor to show an image. I'm not relying on the lack of video bios display as an indicator that my card is screwed up, YMM(will)V.

Got a message from Lawrence at gameve.com, and I called him back.

He says he is investigating matters.. There is a possibility that some merchandise that went out last Thursday and Friday may have been repackaged at BFG and accidentally shipped to them (uh huh). He claims that they don't do any inspection of the boxes, just get em in and send em right back out. Out of 1000 (he said) cards that they sent out last week, 27 had problems. Of those 27, 10 are problems like reported here -- stuff not working out of the box. He said he's getting 10 of them in on Friday, from BFG, for us 10 people. BFG won't get another large shipment for a couple more weeks.

He gave me a couple choices.. advance replacement where they charge me the full $169 for another card, and then refund that when they get my card. No thanks. RMA with BFG, which he claims that a "VP" said I wouldn't have to pay a return fee. I told him about calling BFG last night and that they told me I would have to pay the $15 fee. No thanks.

So I asked for a full refund, no restocking fee, no $6 free shipping fee. He was willing to do that. But he argued with me for a good 10 minutes about it. Offered to test the new card before sending it out. Kept trying to get me to do the advanced exchange, even offered not to charge me the $169. I wouldn't take it, I just told him that they've lost my trust and I want to completely wash my hands of any dealings with his company. He, kinda half jokingly, said, "What if I offered you $1000, would that make you happy?" I told him nope, I just want my money back and pretend that this never happened.

They sent me a used, defective, old product and they've lost my trust.

mine is the same way. no video info at all at initial boot screen. first screen i see is my cpu and memory info. my prior visiontek card showed video card info prior to this screen. i do remember sandra reporting a "??" for the manufacturer as well (i have NOT flashed with a different firmware). i'll check tonight if sandra is able to give me the bios rev #.

I have. Several others have mentioned that in the first couple of pages, too.

The card I have is a pretty decent overclocker, considering the differences between the 5950U and 5900NU stock cooling. I have mine at 510MHz core/980MHz memory.

I received call from Lawrence at GameVE. It seems my post at resellerratings.com got their attention. Seems the GameVE and BFG is in talks with each other trying to find out what's going on. He said BFG is shipping them special replacement shipment and it's intended to take care of some of the customers that are having problems with the card like myself. He offered to ship it out to me for free to replace my bad card but I told him I had already RMAed to BFG. He denied they are selling any used card. It seems this bad press has gotten both GameVE's and BFG's attention. If BFG doesn't resolve my problem with my card, I was assured by Lawrence that he would do what he could to correct it on his end. He also said GameVE doesn't charge any fee for replacing any defective item. He seems pretty frustrated with the bad press his company is getting from this fisasco. All in all I am satisfied that this is going to be resolved one way or another.

And what did he say about using a Tshirt for packaging material?

LOL. I forgot to mention that. I didn't even get a Tshirt as packaging material. Yeah they have the worst ship packaging of any company I've dealt with.
