BFG nVidia 7800 GS?

Last spring, I tried the XFX 7800GS card, and had nothing but problems with it. Mostly firmware issues, (later versions supposed to be much better) but rather than RMA it back to XFX, I explained the issue to NewEgg, and RMA'd it back to them, then replaced it with a VisionTek X850XT-PE card. I'm having several issues with the 850, and (after troubleshooting via numerous e-mails) VisionTek has recommended RMA'ing the card...(sheesh...again!) So, I'm considering RMA'ing the card to NewEgg (again...still within the 1 year timeframe) and since the X850XT-PE is no longer available thru NewEgg, trying the BFG 7800GS...opinions? Should I just send the card to VisionTek on their lifetime warranty/RMA? Or swap it out through NewEgg? (Since I paid $300 for the card originally, and the new card is only $205 after rebate, I suspect I"ll get back the difference...which would be a nice bonus...I'm not trying to screw NewEgg on this, and they've always been very fair and even generous in my dealings with them...

See if you can upgrade to a x1950pro AGP even if you have to pay a little bit of difference. It's arguably the best card for AGP at this time, and probably the last high end card we'll ever see for AGP. Good if you want to extend the gaming life of your AGP system.

Geforce 7950GT > x1950pro/7900GT > 7900GS > 7800GS/x850xt PE

I'd love to get my hands on the Gainward 7800GS+, but not available in the USA...However, I realize that 512mb on the video card would really put the waiting time on my cpy...(p4, 3.04 northwood) and I'm not sure if I'd really see any performance increase over 256...I really don't want to have to spend the $$$ to upgrade to PCI-e just yet...That will entail new mobo, CPU, RAM, and probably a new PSU as well...just not in my budget at this time...

Well, in that case, Sootymooty's got the right idea for ya. X1950PRO has come to AGP, and it's easily the best AGP card you're gonna find. Hell, I'd put it over the 7950GT (Which you can't even find in AGP anyway) since it can do HDR+AA, and if you up the res a bit with it, you could probably offload some of the work from the CPU.

No question about it, X1950 Pro AGP is a lot better card then any 7800GS.

the 7800 gs+ is more than good.

I really don't have any preference between ATI or nVidia...not a fanboi either way. All I care about is good graphics that work right...without a bunch of screwing around. I was happy with the X850, (even though it doesn't support SM3)until it started screwing up...
Thanks for the recommends...I'll look at the X1950 pro.


Edit...it appears NewEgg doesn't have this available yet...hopefully soon..
