BFG Trade-Up Program: Questions

If I ship my gtx 280 to BFG by air, how long would I expect to wait until I receive a shiny 295? I'm hoping some people here have some experience with this.

Also, why does it show me being able to trade up to the 280 gtx oc2, but nothing else? Is this just because the 295 is so new, and I have to wait a few days?

You won't be asked to ship your card to BFG until there is one available for you. As long as you register your card properly within 30 days of purchase and make the request within 100 days of purchase, you should be good. The GTX 295 is not yet available for trade-up, but will probably be sometime soon.

Once you send your card to BFG, I think the turnaround is a few days to a week.

Alright, I can now trade up to a 295, but I noticed that BFG wants you to ship the original packaging and the videocard can not have been overclocked. I do not have the box, other than the serial # which I cut out. I do not have the antistatic bag but I can provide a different one. I dont have the driver cd. I do have the accessories and the card, which has been overclocked.

If I put the clocks back to default and send them the card, serial#, accessories, do you think it will fly? Anyone heard anything about this? Anyone wanna sell me their box and driver cd?

Can they even tell it was overclocked?

You should NOT be telling me this. I will ignore your comment on overclocking this time. Tsk tsk. That's like wanting to become the president of the United States and saying on live TV, "Oh hey, is it okay to bang interns in the oval office? 'Cause I'm looking forward to that."

I'll just... ignore what you said... this time.

No driver CD is fine. You WILL have to use an anti-static bag to properly protect the card, package it properly and ship it using a trackable method (delivery confirmation is not tracking) and insure it. As for the missing box, call tech support and ask if it is okay. Personally I think it is, but I'm not the final say in this matter.

You won't believe how some people ship cards to us, and we WILL invalidate warranty if we have to. I've seen a padded envelope with two GTX 280 in it - no other protection! No anti-static bags and no padding beyond the single thin layer of bubble wrap embedded into the envelope. The cards were rubbing against each other and looked beat to hell! Game over for the warranty, and I don't care how much they complain and whine in forums. :|

I know EVGA does as they provide an overclock utility now.

If you read the BFT Trade Up FAQ it mentions that you cannot have OCed the card you send back but like banging the interns everybody dose it. It just sucks for those who get busted.

Wow. Thats just plain stupid. When I got my 9800GTX delivered I just saved the box it got UPSed in. Its a perfect fit and already has the right amount of foam peanuts in it. I'll be sending mine in on friday. Can't wait for my 295!

I didn't realize there are only a few of us who keep everything, including the original packaging, accessories & mint condition box...I figured most of us did that...I do that with all expensive components I buy...

Same here, I have a closet full of the original boxes for stuff that I even sold to friends in complete systems. When I sell my used parts, I always ship them in the original boxes with original manuals etc, and any other stuff such as cables that came with it originally. Makes it easy for me to box up, and usually makes the person buying it happy as they get everything the original came with.

Funny...I just noticed the similarities in our components...

Alright guys, one more question, and Zap it sounds like you have the inside scoop here so I bet you'll know the answer.

I called bfg tech support tonight, but apparently their "customer service" ends at 5pm and after that its just techy stuff. I am wondering if they will ship my 295 to my canadian address - so far they've sent me the shipping labels and everything, so it looks like they would, but their website for their bfg store says they ship to usa only. The girl on the phone says it looks like they would mail to me, but she couldnt say for sure and to call customer service tomorrow btwn 9-5. I'm hoping you guys can save me the phone call and give me some piece of mind. I'd love to ship it off tomorrow morning before work so I'm working most of the time that its being shipped.

Also, if I shipped a box of chocolates in with the card, do you think that'd increase my chances of them ignoring me not having the original box and driver cd? One box for another?

Only if the girl gets the chocolates.

Which number did you call, the toll free one or the 847*?

Alright, I called again, talked to customer support, who confirmed that they will ship the new tradeup card to Canada. The websites wording makes it sound like you are buying the new card off the online store with a coupon, but apparently its a different method (using a coupon), a method that does ship to Canada. Wish me luck

G'luck! If you have any other problems that support at the toll-free 866 number is unable to resolve, LMK and I'll see what I can do.

My 9800GTX is supposed to arrive at BFG tomorrow according to UPS. So hopefully, according to Zap it will only be a few days before I can order my 295......I can't wait!

TidusZ- have you received your card yet?

I haven't received my coupon code yet. My GTX260 was received on the 19th(holiday), but nothing has happened since. Hopefully, I will get an email today.

I run 2 pcs, so ya I have an 8800gt in the main and the 2nd pc is cardless, which is a pain in the ass. I had a password written down on that one so I had to swap cards back to it, and back again. PITA.

I just sent mine in a few days ago, I tried to send overnight but they couldn't, so they sent it 3-5 day delivery, so I imagine they'll get it early next week.

Hi Zap,

I believe I made a mistake with my tradeup as well...I forgot to include a copy of my invoice with the card! I did, however, mail BFG a copy of the recepit about a month ago to register my product - so is there any way you guys can dig that up and have that suffice?

If not, would it be okay to email the invoice to somebody? Sorry for the blunder! The card was received earlier today, I just hope I don't have it sent back for forgetting to include the invoice.

I called the toll-free line but I was on hold for 35 minutes before a lady asked for my phone number for a call-back.
I also emailed the BFG tradeup addy but no response to that yet either.

Thanks!

I'm 90% sure if you "properly" registered your card (within 30 days and with invoice/receipt) then you don't need to send one in with the trade-up. If there's a problem you'll probably get a call.
