Not quite as good as last year, but a ton at the Wilmington NC store. Some marked down from 165->111, others from 99->69
adults and kids styles available. I'm guessing there will be more markdowns coming.

Of course YMMV

It's better to burn out then fade away....

This is nationwide. They listed 3 of the bikes in last weeks sale flyer.

Items are marked down through out the store, especially in the sporting goods dept.

Thanks for the head's-up, I'll have to stop by the local B&M and see about finding a replacement for my girlfriend. Some f$cking punks stole her bike AND the lock :|:disgust::|

Of course, the detachable seat is still in our closet - hope they like riding with no seat.

HOW IN THE WORLD do the "market fresh" sandwiches have more fat than the regular roast beef! All the market fresh sandwiches have 30+ grams of fat versus 16 for the reg roast beef. I suppose its the mayo and cheese....talk about counter-intuitive

yeah, once your girlfriend doesn't have a bike or a lock anymore it's time to find a new one.

I don't know about Target being the best place to find one though.

I wonder if they could possibly have a decent mountain bike there?

Just PLEASE don't go out and buy one of these for your kid (or yourself) and expect to use it on true MTB trails (ie anything other than a flat smooth path). No matter how similar they look, how they market them, what brand they are, or how much 'travel' they have they are NOT trail bikes. Not only will they fall apart, but they are unsafe for anything other than casual street use. Bad brakes, weak frames and wheels, and VERY poor construction (the assemblers are paid for each bike, ie the faster they build them the more $$ they get). Its not a snobby elitist thing that require you ride a $1000+ bike to be accepted, its a safety thing.

Now if you need a campus bike, city commuter bike, or other such bike ignore this.

Oh, and don't forget to wear your helmet!

Any good deals on bike carriers? I am looking for a 4 bike carrier that mounts into a 2" receiver on a trailer hitch. If I remember correctly there was a thread last year about these being on clearance somewhere.

I went to Target today but did not see any bikes on sale. I will check again tomorrow.

263395 is the style #
It is a Pacific Elite 3.1 aluminum Orange and white shimano gripshift and components and front shocks. and they had queit a few at my local Lex Ky store. they had to take me to the back store room to get one but that worked out well too bad I need to put a kid carrier on it they had a sweet dual shocks bike for $55. and one for $49 as well. I think All Pacific bikes are out and Magnas are in. But there was a few magnas that were cheap. hell if my wife wasn't such a leggy blond she would have gotten a "24 dual shocks for $29.90 but it was just too short.

I'd assume if properly assembled (screws & bolts are at least tight) these cheap bikes are at worst functionally sound and safe.., just heavier with ugly unfinished parts.

Well, kind of . . . They are made of materials that are not only much heavier but MUCH weaker than the high-quality steels and aluminum alloys that bike-store bikes are made from. These bikes are really unsafe for trail riding for that reason. A friend of mine in high school had the fork on his Huffy literally split in two during a trail ride. Also, there is more to assembling a bike than tightening everything down, and setting up and adjusting the crappy brakes on a Target bike is even more finicky than adjusting quality brakes. The very poor quality of the bearings and components are the main reason that most bike stores dislike working on these bikes, and many refuse to do so at all.

At my target in MN, it's still 25-30% off. At least that's what the tags say, I didn't actually scan any of them. Anyone find the tags to be erroneous, I didn't have time to lug the bikes to the scanner.

SCAN EVERYTHING AT TARGET!!! Your store probably never retagged them when the price dropped.

I've seen alot of the Pacific orange/yellow/white bikes at Target. There are 2 other models with that Y style frame that are 75% off but I can't remember the model #. I believe there is a boys Mongoose bike marked down too. I haven't been paying them much attention since I'm not interested.

If you don't want to lug the bikes to the scanner you can get someone to scan them for you with the handheld scanner (lrt). If you hear the scanner beep 2 times after it's scanned, that means it's on final markdown. So listen closely as the employees will lie through there teeth if it scans low and they want it.

I agree with a couple of the posts above. Bikes bought at Target/Walmart/Kmart/Toys R Us are crap. All the bike shop people here HATE working on those kinds of bikes (especially magnas) because they break apart quickly and often. Consider yourself lucky if they're still 'functional' in a year

Please, don't save a few $$'s on these kinds of bikes. Doing so puts you/friends/others at risk.

Let's see Target bike = $39.90 Quality Bike = $1000, I'm sorry I'm not seeing how this is saving "a few $$'s" but rather a large $$'s. Most people just don't have that kind of money to throw away on a bike, I mean hell I can get a nice computer, a cheap used car, decent television, etc for that money!

note: all prices in above post were used from this thread

Finding a medium to lower end Schwinn or Specialized at your local bike shop that is a couple years old isn't going to run you more than $200 at most, and these "lower" end models of "real" bike manufacturers are going to last you a lot longer, be much more enjoyable to ride, be 10 lbs. lighter, made with real steel or aluminum, and won't piss off a bike shop employee when you bring it in for a tune up. I suggest you atleast visit and talk to someone at your local bike shop about this. A bike is not a bike. You can get some really good deals on a 99 or 2000 model if you'd just try to. Yes, I am a mountain biker, but atleast give your bike shop a fair shake before judging them. $1000 dollars for a bike is absurb if you ask me too ; ) My computer wasn't even that much.

Hey Raven, do you think they might've gone out and bought a new seat? lol, jk

I am a mountain biker, and I got a Target MTB for my gf for $25 last year. For people like her who live in the city and ride only a few times a year, a $25 bike is great. No need to spend even $200; it suits her fine.

For the people who need the latest greatest bike this thread is not for you

It is for those of us that might ride 1-3 times a month on sidewalks or concrete. spending $200 to $1000 on a bike I will rarely use is foolhardy and just plain bad economics no matter how you look at it. If I get year or 2 maybe even 5 years use out of it I will throw it away and buy another and know that it was a good $39.90 spent

If you are a hard core biker I agree these bikes are not for you but in the same respect this thread isn't for you either

Also I seem to remember getting a bike from target or Sears for $50 20 years ago that I thrashed to the gills as a 8-12 yo jumping off any and every hill, curb, and ramp I could find never having a problem with my bike other than it needed a wash! I bet that bike still works great. I know my parents still have my 15 yo 18speed ready to go hanging up in their garage. anyone need a 18speed in Central Illnois? hehe

Edit: just saw this

<< Now if you need a campus bike, city commuter bike, or other such bike ignore this. >>

I guess this guy understands everyone on 2 wheels isn't a Pro Rider

Lastly Have someone at Target help you!!!! My guy was a security guy that offered to me to take me back and look at their back stock which is where the best deals were to be had! Also make sure the person helping you has a scanner. Ask for Help that is what they are there for! Maybe I lucked out but that security guard Hooked me Up!

Would love to see a scanned receipt to try to get my local Target to price match. I had a guy scan the orange, white bike but it was coming up like $79. Only one beep from the scanner, maybe they will still go down, but who knows. Also, anybody know which bikes are on sale for ladies?
