Bicycle road laws confusion.

First let me start with this, we don't have many cyclists in the city I work in, but when I do see them I respect their space and give them their right of way when necessary, but I saw something today that I was curious about. The scenario went as follows: I get behind cyclist on side road and drive behind him respectively (the traffic light was only 30 yards away). We pull up to the red light and stop, he looks like he's going to turn right but instead waits for traffic to pass and takes the pedestrian crosswalk to the other side of the intersection, now the pedestrian crosswalk was ALSO on the red hand and not the walk symbol. My ultimate question is... is what he did legal or could you be cited for it? Also this light was at a major highway intersection and not just some small town podunk road. This is the intersection I'm referencing.

I am pretty sure, when cycling on a road (even in a bike lane), cyclists are required to obey all traffic laws.

With that said, nearly all cyclists I've witnessed disregard any and all things surrounding them. The only time they notice those large, environment hating, racist, conservatives diving their evil machines is to smugly look down at their noses at them. Which, is generally the exact opposite of motorcyclists, who know those evil 4 wheeled machines are driving by morons not paying attention; and, in the event the two meet on the road, a trip to the emergency room is the best case scenario, as the morgue is a likely stop.

Everything cyclist do is bad. They need to be outlawed!

I didn't understand the question, but figure the above covers all possible situations.

Did he get off and walk the bike through the intersection? If so, he's jaywalking.

If he rode through, he ran a red.

If he rode the bike across the intersection then he 1) ran the red light and 2) rode in the wrong lane, against traffic.

If he dismounted from the bike to cross the intersection then he jaywalked.

People in my city can't stand cyclists. They get honked at, buzzed, cops called on them, if not worse.

It's a direct results of their generally asshat behaviour and group refusal for tax/tags/registration. The most bizarre thing, to me, is that the rest of their 'group' supports all of the rude and illegal crap the rest of them do.

Motorcyclists... They shun the 'stunters' and people who run from cops. Other groups shun their miscreants as well.

But bicyclists, they stand united in their leotards, to defend any of their brethren at any cost.

So this guy is just a jackass. At least he wasn't wearing a spandex tour de france getup like most of them.

And this is why all ciclists need to have tags. Either a velcro numberplate on their back, or a little plate hanging from their seat.

I am also for special licensing and training, just like the M class for motorcycles. They should be forced to take a safety class as well as pass a specific ciclist on the roadway test. Their ciclist tax will cover all of this, as well as help fund little protected ciclist lanes.

While driving in my own personal vehicle I can tolerate cyclist because my car handles the road like an average mid sized car can.

What is dangerous to the cyclist is the dips in the road (mainly asphalt) that cause trucks to sway out of a straight line into the direction of the dip in the road. This scares the shit out of me in the least hazardous of situations..

If bicyclist ever have to take a road test, this information about the dips in the road should be the first thing learned
