In all my experience riding my bike amongst other bikers and other cars on the road, 90% of bad behavior is committed by the cars. Some examples:

Passing 6 inches on my left at 50mph on a 35mph road.
Laying on the horn while you pass 6 inches on my left at 50mph on a 35mph road.
Passing in front of me only to make a right turn immediately afterwards, forcing me to slam on my brakes and nearly get hit.
Throwing things out the window at me.
Yelling obscenities out the windows at me.

I have to say though, while 90% of bad behavior in my experience is on the part of the drivers on the road, again probably 90% of my interaction with cars is positive. Often at a 4-way stop they will let me go first even though they have the right of way. At an intersection, they will let me turn left before they go straight, giving me the right of way. Or they give me a very wide berth (i.e. the entire lane) when they pass. I always give them a wave afterwards.

Bicycles should seriously be on sidewalks or bicycle lanes when provided, definitely not the road meant for cars... Hitting a pedestrian would be much better than getting run over by a car.

They have a right to the road. The sidewalks here are too packed with people.
On the road = obey road rules

Exactly.

I agree. I bike a good deal and obey all stop signs and hate asshat drivers who think they "own" they road...and bikes don't blong there. While the OP can vent his anger, bikes do belong on the road and not on sidewalks.

Remember to share the road motorists!

Meh....I ride my bike amost everyday. I always see people run red lights in boston. I go through them them, but I stop and make sure no car is coming into the intersection before I do it (like a stop sign). I have more of a problem with people walking in boston then bike riders. I hate how no one in boston ever looks both ways before crossing a street. They just run out thinking they are invincible.

I would agree. Just like anything else a small minority fvcks it up for the majority (Any type of extremism).

QFT- When I lived in Phoenix and LA, a bicycle was my main form of transportation. I obeyed 99.99% of the rules and if I ever saw an asshat on a bike I would chase them down and let them know they were idiots. Some of those chases were epic.

Hell, I'm worse at obeying the laws in my car....

Of course it is kind of hard to act like a car when you are at a light with a trigger.

Bicycles on sidewalks = death! Don't espouse a position on which you have no experience.

I ride my bicycle to work every day and have been doing so for the past 7 years = 21,000 miles. I've had two collisions with cars in crosswalks, both while riding on the sidewalk. Both were the fault of the vehicle. I've had zero problems while riding on the road except for the offenses listed by mfs378 above. So shouldn't the title of this thread be "drivers are self-entitled assholes that think they own the road?" I ride on the road for SAFETY.

No, through a crosswalk and failed to yield. A cyclist in crosswalk is considered a pedestrian by law (in Florida). Hence the drivers got tickets.

Any body has a link to that sad violin tune.

It would be of utmost appropriateness for this thread

I'm all for sharing the road with cyclists, but I live a little harder by "follow the rules of the road" for the cyclists. If you can't go even near the speed limit on your bike, then you shouldn't be on that road. If you're cycling on a 45 MPH road without shoulders, you shouldn't be there if you can't bike atleast 35-40 MPH.

Roads were built for motor vehicles, not bikes. Sorry, but that's how it is.

I ride my bike around town a lot. I will go through red lights and stop signs, but only if there is no traffic. If I can't tell if there is traffic or not, then I will stop. For the most part I obey all traffic signals that cars have to. But yeah if it's a 4-way stop and there is nobody there, I'll go right through.

Ahh one more reason FL sucks.

Consult your local law enforcement if you need to know "how it is".

Most cities do not allow bicyclists on sidewalks; that's what roads are for, so learn to share the damn road. Sorry that's how it REALLY is.

Hey, does that mean you have a 3400 lb penis too? Oh wait, it's inversely proportional isn't it - my bad.

I hope the guy you run over survives long enough to shove his bike down your throat one excruciating steel bar at a time.

Roads are built for HIGH-SPEED vehicles. Unless you can keep up with the majority of the vehicles on the road, then prepare to get run over. THAT is how it really is.

Go ahead and run one over and see where it gets you.

Go tell your local police that. See what they say. The truth is that being a bike rider, a car is a threat to you on the road, but being a pedestrian, a bike would pose a threat for you on the sidewalk.
