Couldn’t you just warn your people by warning them?

I do try, but then I have Democrats saying, oh they are fine, they act civil on the internet so it doesn't matter what misinformation they continue to spread, what kind of realities they continue to deny, and who they continue to vote for.

That doesn't matter, I'm not making comparisons between countries. That has no meaning. I'm looking at the insane spending driving inflation up in THIS Country.

huh? of course it has meaning. In fact, when you look at these two things that you clearly seem to accept right here, the only real argument is that it is the "democrats run away spending!" or whatever the actual reality is, that is the reason we aren't experiencing the same worldwide inflation everywhere.

It's inevitable everywhere, and yet we are best off. You seem to have forgotten this 2 year pandemic + 8 year recession that essentially stopped inflation for an unprecedented 10 years.

Now you're just predictably soiling yourself over the thing that literally everyone knew was coming, as painful as it would be, and we all know why. Yet, you can't help but trip over your weenie running and screaming and blaming all but the absolutely most responsible people anywhere: Republicans and their voters for the last 4 fucking decades refusing to do fuckall for the country or for anyone else.

Wow!

I guy in 2010 (12 years ago) is now what makes up a Republican Movement to get rid of SS and Medicare.

I'm impressed.

how is it that you are so fucking brainless that you refuse to accept the thoroughly-documented truth, screamed out loud by their own legislators, that the GOP has a fucking raging hardon for cutting all of the services that you absolutely depend on?

How do you get to the point that you reject the plain truth here that has been smacking you in the face for decades now? How did you get this way? Is it because your brain de-caches and attention gets thrown to hell every time someone mentions a brown person standing near the border?

The biggest success-story for "Russian interference" in America (so far) has been the wedge they've successfully driven deeper into our society.

I miss the days when we could disagree on major issues BUT still have a beer and cheer for a football game together just because we were Americans. (and despite all the "bad", those days DID exist)

If that makes me "old and in the way/set in my ways" then so be it.

I still have friends on both sides of "the aisle" and it's a damn shame we've come to this retarded artificial "impasse" politically that almost certainly will end in some kind of violence now.
The problems started with Rush and Murdoch. And then Facebook, et. al. went and weaponized and profited off manufacturing outrage between friends.

I mean yes let's be nice to mid-stage Nazis.

The only time I've ever seen one of these conservatives make any kind of substantial change of heart is blackangst refusing to vote for election deniers.

So all these years of your politeness and that's it.

At some point you have to warn your people how fucked up these people are. And you're not going to do it by saying, hey thanks for being nice while you deny the Republicans are authoritarian and fomenting violence or about their plans to dismantle key programs like social security and Medicare and education, and keep voting for them.
That isn't true a lot of people on here have changed their views over the years, it just tends to happen slowly. IIRC, PCGeek used to be the type that would never criticize a Republican. He's still a Republican but much easier to talk to now. @Jaskalas also used to be a righty and isn't anymore.

I used to be much more on the right side of moderate on many issues, I've progressed in large part from debating with people here. The people that just called me names when they disagreed with me never once affected my views.

Yet, the AARP membership will over whelmingly vote for them because of "crime" and the terrible economy where anyone with a pulse can get a job.

I'm an AARP member and outside of a few relatives (by marriage) I don't know a single person of my generation that votes GOP. Most Trumpers I know are bitter middle age fools who blame the problems in their life upon "the elites."

That's great, but your experience doesn't align with national statistics.

My mom has gotten more liberal with age, but most people go the opposite way.

It does matter because in order for your premise to be true US inflation would be higher then most of the developed world because we live in a global economy.

The OP is a classic example of someone not giving a damn about facts and truth from Jan 2017 until Jan 2021.

He mentions examples, this forum is littered with examples of the 30K lies by the last administration. Think anyone can find just ONE instance of @pcgeek11 objecting? I bet the answer is NO!

Do we have a Scarlet H award?

I would also add that the people who discussed things with you calmly also did not effect your views.

OP, stop taking government handouts and do something with your life. Always sucking off the teet of the government, how sad you are.

A big part of the reason I bother with AARP at all (now that I can't regularly eat the free donut from Dunkin!) is the good stuff they "lobby" for like affordable healthcare and NOT cutting social-security.

Not sure I get what you mean?

What I am saying, is that how you talk to people, when it comes to anonymous online discussions, rarely changes people’s mind. If you are open minded and seeking the truth, you will accept facts (or verify them) no matter whose mouth it’s coming out of or how harsh it is.

It’s why I don’t put people on ignore, even an ass hat can make a valid point every once in a while.

I disagree. Generally the people that are just being assholes add nothing of value and even if they do, a lot of people have skipped the rest of their post after the first paragraph of spite.

People can disagree, strongly, and not be rude. Rudeness just makes people build walls and wastes attention span on that instead of facts.

I’ve never seen it but maybe you can expand on how your political leanings changed and what brought about that change (assuming your mind was changed due to something posted on a forum).

I'm not certain that the differences are due to individuals changing as they age, so much as the different politics of different cohorts, based on their formative experiences when younger.

For the UK, this is quite a comprehensive analysis.

A little suprised that the cross-over to Conservatism kicks in as young as the 40-49 age-group. Pretty sure that previous studies found the cross-over happened quite a bit later in life.

Likely it's affected by the fact Corbyn was the Labour leader at that point, so the party was percieved as being particularly far left?

I only have 2 people (Moonpile and BBS) here on permanent "ignore" since that's the only "attention" they rate. This despite it occasionally messing up the "flow" of conversation in threads.

Problem is that far as I'm concerned it's just not worth enduring their mindless ignorance and "look at me I'm SOOO much smarter than everyone else" attitudes.

IME anyone who spends a lot of their time attempting to tell everyone how brilliant they are is usually the exact opposite in reality.

I won't defend being a rude asshole, but tell me honestly: how many people here are assholes to others over simple policy disagreements?

Do you feel that constantly lying and spreading FUD adds anything of value to discussions (or the forum in general)? From what I've seen in P&N, there are (the same) few people who get insulted regularly by others, and it isn't because they 'disagree', but because they're reacting to lies, bullshit, and other such nonsense.

These assholes have already built walls around their minds, and they aren't going to change them because you make nice comments to them on a forum. They deserve the derision they receive, imho.

I didn't say that Joe Biden has caused a global inflation crisis. He did however with his massive spending drive the inflation up in a huge way in the US.

What you're trying to convince everyone is that massive spending doesn't contribute to inflation? There a quite a few economist that will disagree with you.

You can keep you worthless insults they have no effect on me. It only defines your own character.

How do you feel about his admin lying about the source of the SS pay raise?
Joe probably thinks he wrote a personal check.

Old folks often have scrambled memory's and say silly things, I just nod and smile, then offer them some ice cream.

Memory going in your old ages?
Trump lit money on fire even before COVID.

Trump threatens to not sign COVID-19 bill, wants bigger stimulus checks
