My guess this is one of those things he wants to postpone until after the election.

Or at least hold off decisions on licensing new export facilities until then for political reasons. I'd pretty strongly bet he is not in favor of limiting exports.

Why is it bad politically for Biden to license new LNG export facilities? Our allies overseas need LNG(We don't want them buying from Russia) and we have the gas. To win against Trump(Again), Biden is going to need to win the independents voters and how does stopping LNG permits help that?

Annoys enviros on the left. Basically the same reason he's not going to ban menthol cigarettes until after the election. He needs the votes of people it would annoy.

There are five major US LNG export facilities under construction at this time that already have licenses in hand so gas export capacity is going to expand pretty dramatically in the next few years anyway.

Who are they going to vote for? Trump? I guess they will cut off their nose to spite their face.
I would think Biden needs the independents voters more than the greenies.

Our allies are signing long term contracts to get LNG overseas, those long term contracts need LNG export facilities to approved for construction. Stopping new permits until after the election isn't going to help that.

I don't think a 10 month delay for stuff that won't come online until the 2030s is a huge problem and Europe certainly comprehends a political delay. Anyway they are contracting with diverse suppliers so as to not be overly dependent on any one source....proof of learning from the Russia situation.

I know some people on the left who aren't going to vote for Biden due to his support of Israel, which is definitely cutting of their nose to spite their face as well. Find me a viable US politician who doesn't support Israel. Some people do not think as rationally as you would hope.

- I was reading about Trump/Kusher's "peace plan" for Israel/Palestine and holy shit even the status quo is a better alternative for Palestinians.

One problem for Europe that I don't see talked about much is how they are tapped out on storage capacity to take delivery of all the LNG they've already contracted for. Tankers have been floating offshore as interim storage and some resorted to stashing gas in Ukraine even with the war going on because there is literally nowhere else to put it. There aren't many alternatives to leaning even more on Ukraine's massive storage capacity in the near future.

It hasn't been a 10-month delay. There is multiple LNG projects that the current administration has been slow walking. The other thing is these LNG projects would also help displace coal, and we can certainly agree that a Combined Cycle Gas Plant is cleaner than a coal plant. There is other US allies and friendly countries outside of Europe that could use LNG.

Given where LNG prices have settled I'm sort of skeptical that a lot of projects looking for licenses from the past couple years actually pencil financially given whats's already in the pipeline. And even if they were given more expeditious approval most of their financing likely would have collapsed as rates rose and LNG prices fell.

I'm not that worried about this. First, I don't think Biden will go along with it. DoE can't do it unilaterally. Second, if he did go along with it, it would take a few years for the impact to be felt. Third, since the war started, Europe and most particularly Germany, has been on an exponential growth curve with solar and wind farms.
