Well, Putin understands and has seen, that Biden can and will do what he says he will do. Biden was thoughtful, deliberate and a straight shooter. He didn't take any vague stances. He was forthright about what he thought was unacceptable and conciliatory where our countries interests aligned. What at first seemed beneficial in the last president (being a dupe) turned out to be unproductive. Biden coming out b/4 the summit and labeling Russia as a 'formidable worthy adversary' was basically high praise to Putin's ears. Russia, and Putin, are back on the international stage in a public way, as opposed to skulking about in the shadows.
After listening to Former Secretary Madeline Albright's commentary on Morning Joe (MSNBC), I am pleased with the progress made amongst the G7 and with Russia. I underestimated Biden when I was opposed to a summit with Russia occurring this early in Biden's administration. He and his foreign affairs team are absolutely best in class. I cannot express how relieved I am, I would even say a bit giddy over Biden' performance this past week.
