Why do stats show that Asian earn a lot more than white according to the stats?

One part regional. Asian population in the US is heavily skewed to west coast. West coast simply pays more than Iowa. There's a lot of other sterotype kind of things you can draw regarding the Asian culture and earnings. I'll leave that to others.

15 years ago I knew that the "hard" IT jobs were going to dwindle. Desktop support. Network admin. System admin. Ect. Working on physical IT components was going to be a losing battle as that space was going to shrink. I knew how quickly datacenters and hosting was growing and that was the future. I put my effort into learning the more soft side of things - workflow design, application support, project management, ect. Things that were largely transferable from one position to another and not necessarily industry specific. It allowed me more doors going forward to open.

Ya think?
Check out a place called Field Nation.

There's more work, hard IT "get your hands in the box" work out there that you can throw a dozen sticks at.

One of the best decisions I made in my career, although I started to pursue it, was Network Administration. Places were throwing money left and right at you if you had magic certification paper. Then you find out the cost of the certification outfits and wonder if it would be worth it. Also, to make real money programming which is really what I wanted to do, you needed to be a Systems Analyst. Lots of competition for those jobs now. Not niche enough.

One of the best moves I made was instead of being the person doing the integrations and system configurations - working on projects for 2 years on salary working 45-60 hour weeks was moving to pre-sales side of thigns.

There's an abundance of workers - but very few who are good at presenting technical topics to CFOs and such - which requires being able to understand tech - but turn it into business speak which is numbers and how it will be a return on investment.

More money - and really - were the most important people because if the software isn't selling then you have way bigger problems as a company. Doesn't matter how good your development is.

I'll bump this thread again once the groaning starts from IT people who have been laid off or fired. Lower labor rates for the insanely rich. lol. Maybe you'll see soon how much wisdom there actually was in Trump wanting to take care of Americans first.

CAPITALISM!

You coulda had SOCIALISM.. but no you were too scared of it..

(1) It doesn't pay the way it used to

(2) It's mostly contract-work

(3) Said contracts are usually short-term

Interesting link though ... should be good for a few extra $'s!

VERY well-said!

Most of the decent-paying IT contract-jobs I still get are based on my ability as a "geek-to-English" translator as much as technical knowledge and experience.

EDIT: WTH ... I swear this is like my 5th accidental dbl-post today!! (sorry!)

It's almost like you can't put 2 and 2 together. I'd bet dollars to donuts these Indians are skilled white collar workers (IT, programming, Doctors). Big tech knew exactly what they were doing. lol. You fucking clowns thought they were going to help you guys. lol

Well, I have to admit that your thread title piqued my curiosity.

Actually what helped keep this country ahead of the rest of the world in science and technology was our willingness to provide opportunities for work to the best and brightest from anywhere in the world. Now in a misguided attempt to "make America great again" we have decided to erect barriers that force them to go elsewhere and make those countries much more competitive (and America more mediocre). Brilliant! 🙄

US President-elect Joe Biden will work towards providing a roadmap to American citizenship for nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants, including over 500,000 from India...

Enjoy the influx of hundreds of thousands of cheap skilled IT labor.

What goes around comes around after all.
I'm curious is reading English difficult for you?

People always want to shit on management jobs - especially when the manager or whomever is your boss above you getting paid significantly more - but you feel like he isn't as technically smart as you.... There's a reason for that. He probably gets scrutinized to shit all the time to cut costs, reduce headcount, outsource more, etc... And he has to his job all the time explaining why it's not a good idea to outsource - and why it is needed to budget an extra $1.2 million to upgrade hardware, etc.. etc...

Marketing people can't talk to a CFO on numbers and ROI - while also talking to an IT team about what our security procedures are, what a SOC report is, what encryption we use, blah blah blah.

Not so much marketing in a traditional sense. It's medical liaisons. My wife is a cardiac pharmacist and has had a number of drug companies ask her to join on with their medical liaison teams. They are basically in person reps that talk to doctors/medical staff. Big $$. But you basically black list yourself clinically once you make that transition.

Speaking of shitting on managers...

You should give this guy a read. He's British, but nobody's perfect.

Exactly ... I consider it part of my job to provide ammo to my direct "manager" which helps him/her justify IT expenses to the bean-counters who most likely understand tech even less then they do.

PharmD. Cardiac meds in particular have a huge physician influence and pharmacists know how to convince Dr's better than anyone. They are highly sought out.

Oh no, not an increased number of highly skilled workers. Anything but that.

The last thing we want is more Googles, SpaceX-es, and Ebays founded here. What a disaster that would be.

He's prolly got enough reading acumen to get logged in to Facebook, Parler, Faux etc... but that 'comprehension' aspect of the skill...? We're not seeing that from him up in this forum.

b-b-b-but, we just wanted immigrants that could pick our fruit, clean our toilets, and do our dishes that no americans would do*

*Americans would actually do these jobs if it weren't for the wages suppressed from oversupply of workers that moronic liberals advocate for.

Now you get skilled labor wage suppression too it looks like! Enjoy!

You think Americans would work the fields? I mean, they wouldn't even do that themselves before the industrial revolution, that's what slavery was all about.

Aren't you the guy that gets all holier than thou when minimum wage laws are discussed?

Did you seriously not notice the sarcasm in my post? More immigration would be a great thing for the US, especially high skill immigration - only truly stupid people oppose it.

Playing Devil's-advocate for a moment ... I can recall working in (and later running) a landscaping crew in high-school back in the early 1980's.

I STARTED at $12 an hour pushing a lawn-mower and it went up from there .... and this was almost 30 years ago!

Nearly every single one of those jobs is now done by ... erm ... those folks willing to work for FAR LESS than minimum-wage and hired daily off the street-corner for cash.
