Of course they won't agree/vote. They don't care at all. Fucking maggots. I'm glad the bill has most of what Biden outlined.

Maybe they can remove whatever cash was designated for Texas? They like to take care of their own problems, anyway, and are obviously very good at that.

If the money was instead going to be spent on building 16 Battleships,1000 A-10's and a massive increase of the Armed forces including sharks with laser beams, they would be fine with it.

Who gives a shit what republicans think. Biden defined bipartisanship in a way I can’t believe people never really have before. He’s doing what majorities of voters of both parties want, not what majorities of congressmen want.

If Democrats want to be popular and keep power the answer is simple - do popular things like this bill. Then after this do more popular things.

If it was $1.9T of tax cuts to the richest people in the solar system, Republicans would be calling Democrats traitors for not supporting it...although to be fair they call Democrats traitors regardless.

it's not really a case of "too much money", as much as it's giving money to the wrong people.

interesting that the $15/hr min wage is in the House version.
how will it pass the senate when it's reconciliation time since Dems dont have the votes while the $15/hr is in it?

I think Manchin will throw a tantrum. But I'm hopeful it gets passed.

Neither he nor Sinema will sink the bill when it comes down to it. They'll let Manchin tank the Tanden nomination to burnish his "moderate" cred.

Let’s just hope Democrats keep it together WITH DEMOCRATS. One Democrat could screw it all up and that one Democrat is Joe Manchin. Not only could Joe Manchin screw it all up but in doing so, Manchin could hand the senate back over to the republicans in 2022. Now.... how should Democrats treat any Democrat that would not only derail the Biden stimulus but also hand this senate back to the republicans? This is one of those Biden moments where Joe Biden should look Joe Manchin in the face, sitting only inches away, and in no uncertain terms order Manchin to F-ING GET ON BOARD. I think it’s time Joe Manchin were primaried and forced out.

And as far as the cost of the package goes, screw it, forget about it. If for no other reason just ram the costs through congress then hand that trillion dollar bill over to the 2022 Republican controlled senate. Just like republicans have been doing to Democrats for the last 40 years.

You understand that Manchin being primaried would guarantee the Dems would lose his seat, right? That the alternative is a Trumpkin holding the seat and not Appalachian Ocasio-Cortez? That without Manchin, McConnel would be in charge of the Senate right now?

Anyways, I fully expect K1052 is right.

Manchin is in his 70s. His next reelection is in 2024 in a state where Trump won by almost 40. Manchin knows he isnt going to win reelection again so he should just vote however he feels.

He can give Senate to Republicans right now if he wanted by voting with them. He probably will not do it but he got that power.

Is the stimulus bill too large, as in more than is needed? CNN seems to think most economists all across the spectrum think so.

What horse shit. We learned what being timid got us in the Obama years: fuck all after the GOP retook congress. Go big or go home, quite literally.

Yellen doesn't think there is danger and neither do the banks.

Larry Summers totally fucked up Obama's stimulus because he massively misread the political landscape so he can take a god damned seat and shut up.

To me the answer to this is simple. Every single time, without exception, we have estimated fiscal support too low. The smart move now is to err significantly on the side of too high because we KNOW our models are biased low.

Can you, or anyone else offer a reason why he would do this? What would he gain?

And the very last democrat we should primary is Manchin. Literally the last. He is the single most valuable democrat in the senate, he’s a fucking national treasure.
